Study takes close look at homicides
Agencies come together in effort to reduce killings
Two years into the study, using analysis of 2005 and 2006 data, key findings show:
• Homicide increased 17% citywide between the end of 2004 – prior to the commission’s implementation – and 2006. Of the police districts participating in the commission study, two on the south side and one on the north side, there was a 15% reduction in homicide. In the remaining parts of the city not included in the immediate study, there was a 44% increase in homicides.
• 90% of homicide suspects and 77% of homicide victims had prior arrests. One out of every four homicide suspects was on probation or parole with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at the time of the homicide.
• The number of juveniles involved in homicide, either as a victim or suspect, rose 75% from 2005 to 2006.
And they spent money on this study? All they had to do is ask a good chunk of the residents of Milwaukee, or anyone who can read a newspapers and watch the evening news.
Liberals adopt name for ‘progress’
“It’s a willingness to fight,” said James Boyce, a host for BlogTalkRadio and a longtime Democratic political strategist. “It’s about spine and dogma and a certainty of movement. It’s a way to counter conservatives.”
“Spine”?……………………………………………………………………ROFLMAO They only people they seem willing to ‘fight’ are their fellow countrymen. Sorry, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig! The word progressive creates positive images. Ain’t NUTHIN’ positive about those liberals, other than I’m positive they’ll rob you blind of your hard earned money, and invade every aspect of your life THEY don’t like.
A penchant for secrecy
Cheney’s defiance in archives dispute reveals wider battle
The dispute centers on a relatively obscure process but underscores a wider struggle waged in the past 6 1/2 years over Cheney’s penchant for secrecy. Since becoming vice president, Cheney has fought attempts to peer into the inner workings of his office, shielding an array of information such as the industry executives who advised his energy task force, details about his privately funded travel and Secret Service logs showing who visits his official residence.
Seeing as how almost everything that goes on in D.C. gets leaked to some yahoo, I’m not really surprised the man has resisted turning over papers.
Poles demand more EU votes to compensate for war deaths
Desperate attempts to forge a deal on the future of Europe were overshadowed last night by an astonishing demand for the voting system to reflect Polish population losses caused by the Nazi invasion in 1939.
I’m just scratching my head. I see a serious ulterior motive here, but I can’t figure out what. It seems to me that Germany lost more population during WWII than Poland. Although many of those German citizens were murdered in Poland, that didn’t make them Polish citizens.
Syria: Peace impossible with PA split
Syria warned Thursday that peace between Israel and the Palestinians would be impossible within the current split between Fatah and Hamas.
Nothing like stating the obvious!
‘EFPs’ a big threat to U.S. forces in Iraq
The power of what the military calls an EFP — for explosively formed penetrator, or projectile — to spray molten metal balls that punch through the armor on vehicles has some American troops rethinking their tactics. They are asking whether the U.S. should give up its reliance on making constant improvements to vehicle defenses.
Instead, these troops think, it is time to leave the armor behind — and get out and walk.
And all I can think of are snipers. Not good.
Thousands Expected to Honor Firefighters
Among those expected were former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee _ both presidential candidates _ as well as Barbara Richardson, wife of Democratic New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who is also running.
Firefighters from as far away as Arizona and Alberta, Canada, were also expected, said Jeff Zack, a spokesman for the International Association of Firefighters. He expressed concern that the politicians’ presence could skew the focus of the event.
If those people go as private citizens, I see no problem with them attending. But if they are going as candidates, then they should just give a donation for whatever charity the families choose. This is NOT a political event, and turning into one makes me even more disgusted with politicians.

The problem with defenses is they will soon be figured out and breached. Our troops up-armored their vehicles the terrorists up-sized their bombs. We started using metal detectors extensively they stopped using old shells and started packing their roadsides with plastic. The attempt to make invincible armor comes at a cost and that cost is mobility and mobility is important. For one thing, its harder to hit a moving target and two its easier to get into a good position on the enemy and making them worry about if their armor is up to the task.
One of those mouse trap and better mouse, eh? I understand the reasoning, but it still makes me uncomfortable. I’m at the point, troops leave, make the place glow! Let “Allah” sort it out.
