Tavis Smiley: Blacks too ‘emotional’ to obey rules

The moderator of Thursday’s Democrat presidential debate said he did not ask the mostly black audience to refrain from applauding candidates’ answers, because blacks are too “emotional” to obey such a rule.

I’m not black, but even I find that extremely insulting!

Bush Cites Israel as Model for Success in Iraq

With his Iraq policies under increasing fire from the American public and lawmakers from both parties, Mr. Bush went to the U.S. Naval War College here to declare progress. As the president pleaded for patience, his top national security aide went to Capitol Hill to meet with a key Republican critic.

Even I’m losing patience. Since those at the top refuse to allow our soldiers to fight a war, and are just being used a police, and still dying, perhaps it’s time for a serious change of direction. Although not necessarily to the exit. This is a world war, like it not. It was thrust on us a very long time ago. We just gave them a free pass.

Law requires N.M. to grow its own pot

SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico has a new medical marijuana law with a twist: It requires the state to grow its own.

The law, effective Sunday, not only protects medical marijuana users from prosecution — as 11 other states do — but requires New Mexico to oversee a production and distribution system for the drug.

I’m all for MEDICAL marijuana, and this makes sense. If you’re going to have it, the least you could for your state’s patients is grow it yourself.

Was London Bomb Plot Heralded On Web?

Hours before London explosives technicians dismantled a large car bomb in the heart of the British capital’s tourist-rich theater district, a message appeared on one of the most widely used jihadist Internet forums, saying: “Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed.”

Yep, rejoice! Thank the Good Lord for watching over London, it wasn’t and no lives were lost!

Lawmakers Pursue Remnants of Failed Bill

Hours after a massive immigration bill collapsed in the Senate, lawmakers and lobbyists began seeking ways to pass bits and pieces of the measure important to their constituents.

Are they freakin’ kidding? I shouldn’t be surprised because the idea of actually ENFORCING THE LAWS already in existence seem to be beyond the ability of their tiny little minds!

Seattle Talk Show Host Mike Webb Found Dead in Homicide

Although the messages indicated he was fine, and leaving town, Webb did not normally use text messages and his family eventually demanded that Webb call them, McMullen said. The messages stopped, and Webb’s sister filled a missing person’s report May 14.

Webb hosted a liberal late-night talk show for 10 years on KIRO-AM radio until December 2005 when he was fired from the station shortly after he was charged with insurance fraud.

That is seriously eerie. Prayers with the family.

Toll of glory for Earl Campbell

AUSTIN – While Tony Dorsett played with his kids and Archie Griffin and George Rogers played golf Friday at Barton Creek Resort, Earl Campbell was struggling to walk.
(…)
He took roughly six minutes to cover 40 yards – a distance he used to breeze through in less than five seconds as a punishing running back at Texas and during an eight-year, Hall of Fame career in the NFL, mostly with the Houston Oilers. Still wearing his trademark beard, now gray, he stands at a 45-degree angle, unable to straighten at his lower back. He can no longer straighten his knees, either.

I knew he was having a tough time, but I didn’t know it was this bad. My prayers are with him, keep up the optimism!

Victims’ dad sues Selmer after crash

SELMER, Tenn. — The father of two of the victims in a fatal car show accident is suing the city, claiming Selmer officials failed to enforce their own rules requiring permits for parades on city streets and ignoring the safety of spectators.

Should he give himself time to grieve before starting such a process? I can’t imagine the pain he feels. I’m grateful my daughter and granddaughters are doing well. If I loss any of them, I don’t know if I would recover, so yes, I do understand.

Gang sweep targets decades of murder

A three-year investigation, unprecedented in its size and scope in Kane County, culminated this week with 31 Latin Kings street gang members charged in connection with 22 slayings in and around Aurora during the last two decades, officials announced Friday.

All but two of those charged were in custody. Police are seeking the other two.

Perhaps Milwaukee could learn a thing or two from their neighbors to the south.

Union members can opt out of dues based on religious beliefs

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Roman Catholic teacher whose religious beliefs conflict with the political positions of her labor union cannot be forced to pay dues, a federal judge ruled.

The Feds have made a point of going after medical marijuana providers, and suppressing the evidence that they were growing in accordance with state law. The New Mexico law is likely to lead to an interesting confrontation.

I honestly don’t understand why the Federal gubmint is so all fired against cancer patients smoking a little pot, if it helps them. Shoot, they could even make a few bucks if they played their cards right. True, there is the possibility of abusing the system, but people do that already with Tylenol #3 fer petes sake!

You know, if union membership were not mandatory to hold some jobs (how “free to work” is that?) no one would join them.

I have actually turned down jobs because they insisted I join a union. Pffft! Not in this bloody lifetime!
