An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings

The Great Peacock War of 2007

30 June 2007, 8:21 am. . Filed under The Peacock War.

The last few days, it’s been all quiet on the Southern front.  I thought I had put the fear of ol’ broad into those evil birds.  Five whole days, and no sight of the colorful fowl, although I did have to chase off about 20 goats on Thursday afternoon.  I can pretty much kiss those 2 magnolia trees in the front goodbye.  sigh…..

Sadly, it seems, the war is not over.  This morning, I heard something going on up on the roof.  I went out on the back deck, and saw nothing.  I thought perhaps it was just squirrels, although the little rodents around here are fairly tiny, and that was quite a bit of racket.  I came back in and saw Mr. Spot looking out the front window, howling about something.  Yep, sure enough, there they were, pecking at my flower bed, purdy as you please.  We started a staring contest.  He stared at me, I stared at him.  He kept staring at me, I kept staring at him.  I won!  :-)  The racket maker flies off the front part of roof, and they took off together.

One bright note, I did see the owners of my nemesis turning into his driveway with a load of wire fencing in his truck.  Perhaps he’s realized he’ll be ending up with a few less peacocks and goats if he doesn’t do something to keep them rounded up?  I know the peacocks are able to get over fences with no problem, but they don’t do half as much damage as those satanic goats have done!  I can wash the peacock poop off the deck.  It’s much more difficult to regrow dead plants.

GOPfolk beat me to the draw, but I too thought of you when my FoxNews loaded this morning!

Fox does have the better front page headline: “Buffy Never Made This Mistake”

There you go! Getting the reputation as the top spot for “Peacock Angst” on the web~!
