Thompson to announce presidential bid next week
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson will make the long-awaited announcement of his Republican presidential bid using an Internet Web cast next Thursday, his political director said Thursday.
Thompson will then travel to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina - key states in the nominating process - before ending his launch with a homecoming event in his hometown of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Sept. 15, according to a statement provided in behalf of Randy Enwright, Thompson’s national political director.
It’s about bleepin’ time! 
Guess Steve Gill was off just a smidge. He said the 7th or 8th, Fred says the 6th. I can live with that.
Defused car bomb hints at Mexican guerrilla group
MEXICO CITY — Nearly 11,000 workers evacuated Mexico’s highest office tower Thursday after police acting on a tip discovered a car bomb inside the parking garage.
Officers deactivated the bomb and no one was injured. Police searched the 59-story Torre Mayor and its surroundings in the downtown financial district and gave the all-clear.
No one immediately took responsibility for the explosive device, apparently a small pipe-bomb.
Not knowing the workings of pipe bombs, would this thing have done much damage? I mean other than potential loss of life? I think Mexico has more problems than just losing a large chunk of their population. Maybe if those ‘escaping’ stuck around, there could be improvements in their own country.
Bush Administration Seeks Appeals Court Ruling Allowing Mexican Cargo Trucks in Country
The Bush administration urged a federal appeals court Thursday to let Mexican cargo trucks cross the border and freely travel anywhere in the country, arguing that to do otherwise could strain diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Mexico.
The man just doesn’t get it! Why can’t he understand he’s got bigger problems right here with his relationship with his own party. Worrying about whether or not the Mexican government likes us is not real high on MY list of priorities! The safety and well being of drivers who would have to share the roads with less than prime condition trucks should worry him a whole lot more!
UK plan to track asteroid threat
UK space scientists and engineers have designed a mission to investigate a potentially hazardous asteroid.
The 300m-wide (984ft) rock, known as Apophis, will fly past Earth in April 2029 at a distance that is closer than many communications satellites.

US lawmakers’ plane evades fire as it ascends from Baghdad’s airport
A military cargo plane carrying three US senators and a member of the House of Representatives had to take evasive maneuvers and dispatch flares Thursday night to avoid ground fire after taking off from Baghdad’s airport.
The lawmakers said their plane, a C-130, was under fire from three rocket-propelled grenades over the course of several minutes as they left for Amman, Jordan.
How did the bad guys know? Do they just sit there and wait for planes to take off, then shoot at them?

Well if Fred don’t announce that he is running on the 7th, I am pulling ALL of my support from his campaign (Like thats a big deal to him) Right now he is sucking support from candidates like Tancredo or Hunter, our only hopes for a conservative Pres.
I was really inclined to support Hunter. I haven’t read anything about him that would have prevented me from going gung ho. Sadly, he doesn’t have the name recognition, and that seems to be really important these days. :/

Talk about name recognition: Fred Thompson was on the Dutch News. Short story though. Compared him with Ronald Reagan and Schwarzenegger. Said he was the “right-wing” answer to Guilliani. “Joked” that he probbaly was going to talk about “Law & Order” a lot.
I know nothing about Fred Thompson, but I like the guy. Married with a woman who is 25 years younger. I guess you don’t have to worry about a “Bill Clinton” kind of scandal.
LOL No, that probably won’t be an issue. Have you seen the Mrs? She’s quite lovely!
