Ann on Gonzales

29 August 2007, 6:53 pm. 4 Comments. Filed under Opinion.

Reno 911

This week, congressional Democrats vowed to investigate Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ firing of himself. Gonzales has said he was not involved in the discussions about his firing and that it was “performance-based,” but he couldn’t recall the specifics.Right-wingers like me never trusted Gonzales. But watching Hillary Rodham Clinton literally applaud the announcement of Gonzales’ resignation on Monday was more than any human being should have to bear. Liberals’ hysteria about Gonzales was surpassed only by their hysteria about his predecessor, John Ashcroft. (Also their hysteria about Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Libby, Rice, Barney and so on. They’re very excitable, these Democrats.)

Liberals want to return the office to the glory years of Attorney General Janet Reno!

There is reason to believe Reno is precisely the sort of attorney general that Hillary would nominate, since Reno was widely assumed to be Hillary’s pick at the time. As ABC News’ Chris Bury reported the day Reno was confirmed: “The search for an attorney general exemplifies Hillary Clinton’s circle of influence and its clout. … The attorney general-designate, Janet Reno, came to the president’s attention through Hillary Clinton’s brother, Hugh Rodham.”

Let’s compare attorneys general:

– Civilians killed by Ashcroft: 0

– Civilians killed by Gonzales: 0

– Civilians killed by Reno: 80

Clinton to Give Away Fundraiser’s Cash

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton will give to charity the $23,000 in donations she has received from a fundraiser who is wanted in California for failing to appear for sentencing on a 1991 grand theft charge.

I’m curious. How can people give the Dhimmis so much money, yet it’s the Republicans who are supposedly rich? AND how do the Clintons keep getting away with this stuff? Also, has anyone noticed the Clintons are acquainted with some rather interesting characters?

Iranian envoy warns new UN sanctions would end nuclear cooperation

A senior Iranian envoy warned the United States and its allies on Wednesday against pushing for new UN Security Council sanctions against his country, suggesting Teheran could retaliate by ending cooperation with UN experts probing its nuclear program.

US and European diplomats in turn criticized Tehran for not doing enough to ease international concerns and said its recent willingness to allow a partial probe of its past nuclear activities was not enough to banish fears it wanted to make an atomic bomb.

Did I miss something? I wasn’t aware that Iran was cooperating with anyone!

Jewell, falsely tied to ’96 blast, dies

Richard Jewell, the former security guard who was wrongly linked to the 1996 Olympic bombing and then waged a decade-long battle with news organizations to defend his reputation, died Wednesday. He was 44.

R.I.P. It’s a shame he had to go through so much hell.

UN official raps Sudan for expelling CARE envoy

U.N. Undersecretary-General John Holmes, the humanitarian coordinator, said that the expulsion “clearly undermined both the letter and the spirit” of a joint communique he signed earlier this year with the Khartoum government on facilitating humanitarian activities in Darfur.

I get the impression that the head honchos in Sudan really don’t want their people helped.

Bhutto Expects Musharraf to Quit as Military Chief

Pakistani Gen. Pervez Musharraf and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto were on the verge Wednesday night of forming an improbable alliance that would involve him stepping down from the army but continuing as president and her returning to Pakistan after eight years of exile to try to win back her old job, officials on both sides said.

I always thought it was a tad odd that the head of the army was also president. I guess they do things a bit differently in that part of the world?

Stocks Bounce Back After Yesterday’s Drop

Stocks rebounded sharply today as investors, growing more optimistic about chances for an interest rate cut, sought bargains after the previous session’s huge tumble. The Dow Jones industrials gained almost 250 points.

Rabies Survivor Viewed as ‘Medical Marvel’

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Jeanna Giese, like many other teenagers entering college, admits to being nervous about classes and meeting new friends.

But Giese isn’t your average freshman. She is a medical marvel who has been studied and chronicled for nearly three years as a one-of-a-kind case: She survived rabies without vaccination.

Most excellent news! I wish her the best of luck in her endeavors!

FDA regulation of cigarettes urged

NASHVILLE — Religious leaders have a “moral imperative” to urge Congress to allow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate cigarettes, said Richard Land, head of public policy for the Southern Baptist Convention.

Land was among leaders from several religious denominations who gathered at a Nashville church Tuesday to urge members of the Tennessee congressional delegation to support legislation.

NO! And not just NO, but HELL NO!

School Bans Tag After Parents Complain

A Colorado Springs elementary school is banning the game of tag on its playground — after some children complained that they’d been chased or harassed against their will.

You have got to be….kidding me! To put it point blank, we are raising a generation of a bunch of pussies!!!!  My apologies for the crudeness, but it’s true!

Up to 10% in Virginia jails illegals

The 13,735 illegal aliens in jail committed 27,148 offenses in fiscal 2007, according to the report. The majority of offenses for which illegal aliens are held in the state’s jails involved alcohol or the possession of fake identification documents.
(…)
The average annual cost to house an inmate in a state prison during fiscal 2006 was $23,123, said Larry Traylor, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Corrections.

If my calculator is correct, that’s roughly 31 MILLION DOLLARS annually to house, feed and clothe people who should never have been here in the first place!

Help drying up for Katrina evacuees in Dallas
Many remain in N. Texas but struggle to find jobs

Hurricane Katrina relief, once an outpouring of support for evacuees displaced in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has slowed to a trickle on the second anniversary of the storm.

While no official figures are available, an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 evacuee households still call North Texas home, according to advocacy groups. And countless evacuees still need help paying for basic necessities such as rent and utilities.

The sad thing is, many of those still struggling are those who expect the government to ‘take care’ of them. The cradle to grave mindset created by the poverty pimps in Louisiana did a great deal of harm for these people.

Poverty worsens in city; 26% live below the line
Milwaukee has 8th-highest rate of large U.S. cities

Johnniemae Ashford is a 41-year-old African-American woman caught in a poverty trap.

She is raising five grandchildren and takes home$187 every two weeks as a patient-care worker. She needs pots, pans, beds, groceries and cash for a first rent check so she can move her family out of her sister’s house and into a new home.

While I have great sympathy for this lady, my first question is, where is these children’s mother? Second, FIVE grandchildren at the age of 41?

Persistent Fear Drives Stocks Down

The stock market plunged late in the afternoon yesterday, registering its biggest drop in three weeks as investors were hit by fresh worries over declining consumer confidence, falling house prices, shrinking profits on Wall Street and uncertainty about the Federal Reserve.

I’m no economic genius, but it seems to me that panic selling is only feeding the beast, and creating a worse outlook. Maybe folks should stop and think in the long term before yanking their funds? I don’t know, just a thought.

Taliban free 12 S. Korean hostages in Afghanistan

Taliban militants on Wednesday released 12 of 19 South Korean captives they promised to free under a deal struck with the South Korean government to resolve a hostage crisis that began almost six weeks ago.

I thought the deal was to release all 19, so where are the other 7?

As Ford goes to prison, ethics laws on trial

Even as the book is being closed on former state Sen. John Ford, who is headed to prison for taking bribes, there may be a move to undo some of the state’s new ethics laws that his arrest prompted.

Some state lawmakers are complaining about unintended consequences of the ethics reforms they’ve passed — and proposed changes, possibly loosening some of the newly tightened laws, could come out of a legislative study committee this fall.

Which leads me to ask, what are they afraid of? Is it possible they think they, themselves, might be brought up on charges?

Beethoven’s Doctor Accidentally Poisoned Him, Pathologist Claims

Did someone kill Beethoven? A Viennese pathologist claims the composer’s physician did — inadvertently overdosing him with lead in a case of a cure that went wrong.

What on earth do you try to cure with lead?

Republicans distance selves from Idaho senator

Senate GOP leaders called Tuesday for an Ethics Committee investigation of the Idaho Republican’s June arrest at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in Minnesota.

“He’s disappointed the American people,” former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, for whose presidential campaign Craig was a Senate liaison, told CNBC on Tuesday night. Craig has stepped down from his role in the campaign.

If he’s going to have the morals of an ally cat, he should be a Democrat. They don’t seem to mind such behavior.

Big Source of Clinton’s Cash Is an Unlikely Address

It isn’t obvious how the Paw family is able to afford such political largess. Records show they own a gift shop and live in a 1,280-square-foot house that they recently refinanced for $270,000. William Paw, the 64-year-old head of the household, is a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service who earns about $49,000 a year, according to a union representative. Alice Paw, also 64, is a homemaker. The couple’s grown children have jobs ranging from account manager at a software company to “attendance liaison” at a local public high school. One is listed on campaign records as an executive at a mutual fund.

I’d be real interested to find out how they manage to donate so much money without obvious means. Guess it’s another Clintonesque miracle, eh?

Never Ending Battle

29 August 2007, 7:23 am. Comments Off. Filed under The Peacock War.

When the guys put that ugly plastic pink flamingo out, I thought, what the heck. So, I moved it around to the side by the steps up to the deck. For several days, no evil fowl sightings. Then, this morning, the first thing I see is this

damn-birds.jpg

Now it may not seem like much, a broken pot, but that broken pot use to have Asian lilies in it, until the peacocks killed them. Now it’s another mess I have to clean up, along with the constant piles of poop, and replace, just like many other plants they have destroyed.

I guess it’s time to put in another call into the lawyer, since he obviously didn’t bother to do anything the last time I called.

One bright spot, those damn birds got one look at me, and turned tail. No water cannon needed. :)

Or:

I like this one too.  If I ever docrorate for Christams again, I think I could use something like that.

Tough decision.  I’m on the verge of saying, the heck with it, and get them both.  Which would you be more likely to bid on?

Isn’t it amazing just how much happens when you’re ignoring the real world?  Gonzales resigns, yet the Dhimmis won’t let up.  The Taliban evidently decides it’s a tad more prudent to release their kidnapped victims, even after murdering 2 of them.  I was at a meeting where all the ladies insisted Oprah Winfrey was canceling her show, but it turns out that it was Denise Brown who canceled on her.  Gossip….sheesh!  Of course, there was a little more gossip about Oprah, but I honestly don’t care.  A Republican has to emphatically insist he’s not gay, where Dhimmis would wear it as a badge of honor, and be praised, and applauded for doing what this guy was accused of doing.  Ahmabooboo has a serious problem.

Ya know, I think I’ll continue to ignore the real world until tomorrow!  SS, DD!

We have returned!

28 August 2007, 3:05 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Stuff.

What was going to be one night in the booming gambling town of Tunica, MS turned into a two nighter.  Not because we were winning, or anything like that, but just because.  It was a fairly uneventful trip, although we were rather impressed with the Horseshoe.  The food was excellent!  It ain’t Vegas, but it’s close to home.  I wouldn’t mind going back to see Hootie & the Blowfish, but the Mr says I have to be in Wisconsin at that time.  :(

Well, we went back to the room after breakfast to get our stuff, check out and head home.  Imagine my surprise when I walked in the room and saw Texas Fred on the news!  I only caught a few seconds, but that was enough for me to realize …. yep, that’s him alright!

I guess that’s all it took for the Mr’s luck to change, cuz he ended up winning a jackpot.  Ok, so it was less than $600, but still.  It just proves it can be done.  My luck on the other hand, got worse.  Hmmm…..

So, now we are back home, safe, sound, and a little poorer.

Ted Nugent: Opinions? No, just the facts

So, here’s a list of facts that may or may not be argued, but all are irrefutable, and the fact that an argument exists on any of them proves that fantasy is for fools who are more than happy to see America come to her knees.

* Water is wet. Venison is food. Tobacco use kills more Americans than anything. Drinking and driving is self-inflicted terrorism.

* God gave me the right to defend myself.

* Tofu production kills more living things than any other activity on earth.

* Paul McCartney took too much acid.

* Trapping bans don’t work. Hunting bans don’t work. Gun bans don’t work. Gun-free zones are a recipe for innocent slaughter.

* Guns are harmless, inanimate objects.

* Pathetic people not willing to defend themselves cannot dictate such soulless policy upon those of us who know we must.

* American education fails to teach many children to read, write, spell, balance a checkbook or talk.

* The Internal Revenue Service is horrendously wasteful, unaccountable and unconstitutional.

* Dope destroys lives. Meth users are American terrorists.

* The No. 1 threat to a black American’s life is a black American.

* Kids that don’t do chores are a liability to family and America.

* People who don’t care about their health don’t deserve health care.

* Good is superior to evil. Smart is better than dumb. Activism is the duty of anyone claiming to be part of an experiment in self-government. A work ethic is far superior to laziness.

* Barbecued dead animals are perfect, natural and delicious.

* Love conquers hate. Patience teaches much more than immediate gratification. Clean is better than dirty.

* War is the answer against terror and evil. In WWII, America was the good guy, the Japanese and Nazis were the bad guys. You cannot negotiate with evil.

* The war on poverty is a joke. Pimps, whores and welfare brats are not legitimate job descriptions.

* Trees produce wood for many quality and proper uses.

* There are more deer, bear, mountain lion, geese, wild hogs and wild turkey in North America than at any time in recorded history.

* Child molesters cannot be fixed.

* The government gets more profit from gasoline taxes than the oil corporations do per gallon.

* Rock-’n'-roll is sexier than C&W. Guitars are cooler than keyboards.

* It’s better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.

* People who can’t speak clear English or mumble and carry themselves badly will have a hard time achieving the American Dream.

* Hippies stink.

* People who litter are rude pigs.

I’m Confused

Obey? Bible says yes, if government’s ‘good’
‘No civil rulers should be followed if orders inconsistent with God’s’

In Romans 13, the Bible instructs Christians to obey the government because God has placed it in power, but several experts and leaders, both historic and modern, have indicated that cannot be interpreted as an unqualified loyalty.

My confusion. I just read Romans 13 three times, and no where in it did I see anything about ‘obeying’ the government. Anyone have some clarification for me? Did I miss something?

UPDATE:  Never mind!  :)   David point out that I’m an idjit!  I was looking at the wrong book.

Border Patrol chief rejects mission against aliens, drugs

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,” Carlos X. Carrillo, Border Patrol chief of Laredo, Texas, told guests at a town-hall meeting Thursday. “The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop illegal immigrants. The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop narcotics. … The Border Patrol’s mission is not to stop criminals.

“The Border Patrol’s mission is to stop terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country.”

I think someone needs to start looking for a new job…..NOW!

U.S. Wants to Close Popular Pedestrian Border Crossing

Pedestrians at the nation’s busiest border crossing are losing conveniences in what the authorities describe as measures to improve security and critics say is an unnecessary crackdown.

Until we get this problem under control, I’m of the mind that all borders should be closed. Especially with morons like Carrillo on the job! Said ‘critics’ obviously have NO concern for the safety and security of our nation.

Florida Stripped of Delegates

Democrats decided today to strip Florida of all its presidential convention delegates unless the state holds its primary later in the 2008 election calendar. The punishment would leave the fourth largest state without a vote for the nominee.

The state party has 30 days to comply by moving its contest back at least seven days from the current Jan. 29 plan or lose its 210 delegates to the nominating convention in Denver next summer.

Here’s a thought: Stop moving the flippin’ primaries, have them ALL the same day, and let the VOTERS decide! This recent ‘one up’ nonsense is starting to seriously chap my hide!

Wal-Mart owes back taxes, state says

Wal-Mart says it has not done anything wrong but is merely taking advantage of an overlap of state and federal tax laws: To reduce its taxes and costs, it sets up one subsidiary to run its stores and another subsidiary to own its real estate. The operating subsidiary pays rent to the real estate subsidiary and takes a tax deduction for the rent, even though that money eventually ends up in the corporation’s own pocket.

“Anything Wal-Mart can do to lawfully lower its costs allows the company to pass it along through lower prices,” said company spokesman John Simley. “This is a lawful (tax) structure in Wisconsin.”

And in the meantime, saving shoppers money, and providing jobs! Madison just HATES not sucking the coffers dry.

Iraqi Leader Lashes Back at US Critics

Nouri al-Maliki, who is fighting to hold his government together, issued a series of stinging ripostes against a variety of foreign officials who recently have spoken negatively about his leadership. But those directed at Democrats Clinton, of New York, and Levin, of Michigan, were most strident.

“There are American officials who consider Iraq as if it were one of their villages, for example Hillary Clinton and Carl Levin. They should come to their senses,” al-Maliki said at a news conference.

Sorry Mr. al-Maliki, ‘sense’ and Democrats do NOT go hand in hand. You’re just asking way too much!

Falcons want $22 million back from Vick

Vick has received roughly $40 million in guaranteed bonuses — and even more in base salary — but teams are only allowed to try to recoup money paid in signing bonuses, per the collective bargaining agreement with the players’ union.

To collect the money, Vick must remain on the Falcons’ roster. Therefore the team will not release Vick until the matter is resolved, the person familiar with the situation said.

I have a real problem with the amount of money that is paid to these prima donas. It’s a GAME for cryin’ out loud, and not one of these spoiled brats does anything useful to earn it. With so much money in sports, we get trash like Vick.

Iran vows to use ‘smart’ bomb against enemies, unveils mass production

Teheran first announced development of the long-range guided bomb Thursday, saying it could be deployed by the country’s aging US-made F-4 and F-5 fighter jets.

“We will use these [bombs] against our enemies when the time comes,” Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said on state television Sunday.

Sounds like a threat to me. And just which ‘enemies’ will be the target? I’d say odds are, it’s Israel and/or the U.S. But they are just peaceful folks, right?

Vast army of ‘Hillary haters’ has claws out

Armed with new technologies and fueled by animus, they are bent on preventing “four more years” of Clintonism. Every old charge, it seems, is being repackaged and sold as new. Every rumor is given a new, blog-stoked currency.

I don’t hate the woman, I just don’t trust her!

Televangelist blames Muslim group for show cancellation

A Christian televangelist who harshly criticizes Islam and other religions said Friday that his late-night program is being pulled off the air because of pressure from a Muslim group.

Earlier this month, officials from the Council on American Islamic Relations wrote a letter to the TV station’s owners asking for an investigation of the show it broadcasts, “Live Prayer with Bill Keller.”

In a May 2 broadcast, the televangelist said Islam was a “1,400-year-old lie from the pits of hell” and called the Prophet Muhammad a “murdering pedophile.” He also called the Quran a “book of fables and a book of lies.”

I don’t much care for the majority of televangelists, but yanking the guy off the air is censorship. I mostly think the message gets hidden by the constant calls for ‘donations’, which aggravates me to no end. When the so called ‘Religion of Peace’ manages to silence other religions, it’s time to take a real hard look.

Did I Pass?

Well, I don’t know. I did do rather well on the written part. Only screwed up a couple of the questions, even though I knew the answers. sigh…

Now, as for the shooting part….I have NO idea! I think I might have to take that part over. At 3 yards, perfect. After that…..pfft! No one told me I was suppose to actually PRACTICE first. I’m fairly sure at the farthest distance, I might have gotten one….two? If he calls me to tell me I suck, I’ll know for sure.

All I know for a fact? My hand hurts! I did see a cute little thing, IF I ever get the permit, that would be just great to tote around on my bod someplace. Don’t ask me what it was, I don’t know. It was just cute enough to be a girl thang.

While I was on my way back from the range to the classroom (they did it opposite of what they said….good thing too….it was HOT), I heard an interesting little tidbit on the Steve Gill Show. Now, if you have ever listened to Steve, you’ll know he is a good friend of Fred Thompson, and does have a bit of an inside track. He said, Fred WILL BE ANNOUNCING, possibly around the 8th or 9th of September. Now, whether or not this is accurate, I can’t say. One can only hope!

Getting up at 5:30 in the morning is bad for my mental health, so I’ll be vegged out on the couch for the duration of the evening.

Drought carving into jack-o’-lantern supply

There’s trouble in the pumpkin patch these days, with Tennessee’s drought threatening to take the heart out of Halloween.

The state often ranks somewhere between sixth and 10th in the nation in pumpkin production, agriculture statistics show. But this Halloween, out-of-state pumpkins are going to have to make up a shortfall.

I guess that means there will be much smaller pun’kins smashed in the roads this year. We need rain…..NOW!

Floods, Tornadoes Cause Havoc Across Upper Midwest

Rowing a boat isn’t in Barbara Campagna’s job description. Nevertheless, the architecture director for the National Trust for Historic Preservation and three colleagues found themselves paddling to the Farnsworth House in Plano, built by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1951. There, they piled furniture into their borrowed rowboat as rising floodwaters threatened to invade in the aftermath of torrential storms.

While I don’t envy the amount of rain, I am jealous that it’s not being shared. :(

McGee denies party permit from jail

Using the power he still wields from jail, Milwaukee Ald. Michael McGee has denied a permit for a block party organized by two key figures in the state and federal cases against him.

Judge orders trials in church suits

When the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego filed for bankruptcy in February, abruptly halting multiple sex-abuse lawsuits on the eve of trial, Michael Bang thought his chance for a day in court was gone.

On Friday, a federal bankruptcy judge revived hope for Bang, ruling that 42 cases be sent back to state courts for immediate jury trials.

I’m pretty sure Rome can cover the costs, but maybe not.

With Troop Rise, Iraqi Detainees Soar in Number

The number of detainees held by the American-led military forces in Iraq has swelled by 50 percent under the troop increase ordered by President Bush, with the inmate population growing to 24,500 today from 16,000 in February, according to American military officers in Iraq.

Why don’t they just shoot them? Sure would save having to feed the bad guys. Ok, not nice….don’t care.

30 Immigrants On Bikes Deliver A Labor Revolt

The 30 men — all immigrants, including undocumented workers frustrated with the poor conditions and low wages that are often a fact of life in America’s underground economy — banded together in an effort to unionize. They demanded an end to what they say were salaries less than half the minimum wage, and to penalties that included $20 fines for late deliveries and $50 for shutting the restaurant’s glass doors with a bang.

Are they LEGAL? Seems not all. For those who are, this is appalling. For those who aren’t, go home.
