Germs sent to space come back meaner, scientist reports

“Wherever humans go, microbes go — you can’t sterilize humans. Wherever we go, under the oceans or orbiting the earth, the microbes go with us, and it’s important that we understand … how they’re going to change,” explained Cheryl Nickerson, an associate professor at the Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology at Arizona State University.

Darn good reason to keep my feet firmly planted on terra firma! The Blob comes to mind. The original, not the remake.

Bronx cheers for Ahmadinejad in New York

Ahmadinejad, appearing shaken by what he called “insults” from his host, sought to portray himself as an intellectual and argued that his regime had respect for reason and science. But the former engineering professor soon found himself drawn into the type of rhetoric that has alienated American audiences in the past.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a list of those who cheered this POS. Potential employers might be real interested.

U.S. sues Ill. over immigration law

The Bush administration is suing Illinois over a new state law it says complicates federal efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.

The Illinois law would prevent employers from participating in a federal program that verifies whether workers are legally authorized to work in the United States until a federal database is more accurate.

I wasn’t aware that a state could trump the feds when it comes to national security. Illinois seems to think so. And yes, allowing illegals free reign IS a matter of national security.

Man causing climate change – poll

An average of 79% of respondents to the BBC survey agreed that “human activity, including industry and transportation, is a significant cause of climate change”.

And those same 79% are sheep, without two brain cells to rub together between the lot of ‘em.

Some married women have drivers’ licenses canceled

Attention Georgia married women: If you took your husband’s last name, your driver’s license might be canceled.

In an effort to comply with state and federal laws, the state Driver Services Department has been checking its database against the records at the Social Security Administration. If the name on your license does not match the name on your Social Security card, the state will move to cancel your license.

I wonder if some women aren’t aware they can actually change the name on their SS cards. I had mine changed within a year. Shoot, I had it changed even faster after I got my divorce. :)

Black Forum Forges Forward as Republicans Continue to Bail Out

Rep. Tom Tancredo is the latest presidential candidate to pull out of Thursday’s Republican debate in Baltimore, which is quickly becoming a shadow of the June Democratic version that also focused on black issues.

I couldn’t find any reason noted for the cancellations. This does not make any sense. The Republicans claim to be inclusive, yet turn their backs on those we would honestly want to include? Where’s the logic in that?

U.S. Snipers Accused of ‘Baiting’ Iraqis

Army snipers hunting insurgents in Iraq were under orders to “bait” their targets with suspicious materials, such as detonation cords, and then kill whoever picked up the items, according to the defense attorney for a soldier accused of planting evidence on an Iraqi he killed. Gary Myers, an attorney for Sgt. Evan Vela, said his client had acted “pursuant to orders.”

And the problem with this is…….?

UAW Walkout Puts Democrats in a Jam

The decision yesterday by 73,000 General Motors workers to walk off the job is unwelcome news for Democratic presidential candidates. If the dispute is prolonged, they will have to choose definitively between supporting free trade or protectionism.

Job security is a top priority for voters from both parties, and limiting imports and the outsourcing of jobs is a popular remedy. Both presidents Bush and Clinton have lauded free trade because of the prosperity it brings. But Mr. Clinton’s successors have different ideas.

I understand why these folks want assurances that their jobs won’t be going overseas, but perhaps they should take a long hard look at how it got to this point.

Natorei Karta: Ahmadinejad man of peace

Natorei Karta spokesman Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss on Tuesday called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “an advocate of peace,” on the eve of the group’s meeting with the controversial leader in New York.

Weiss said in a statement that “this will be the third time we’re meeting with [Ahmadinejad]. … Every time, we stressed to the Iranian leadership that despite … the declarations by Jews who don’t understand the essence of the matter, we have found the Iranian people and their leaders friendly and respectful.”

Uh huh. And I’m a tall, skinny, filthy rich, super model.

Ahmadinejad urges Western media not to tell lies about Iran

Speaking to the Washington-based US National Press Club in a video-conference from New York, the Iranian president said, “Iranians are the freest and the most intellectual nation in the world and are well informed of the daily news.” “Those who claim there is no freedom in Iran should visit the country and freely talk to the people” so they could get a better understanding of the situation, said President Ahmadinejad who is here to address the United Nations General Assembly later on Tuesday.

Pffft! If they are so smart, why is this asshat still using the title of ‘president’?

Guard cutting presence at border

Border Patrol agents have said for months that they appreciate the help. Officials did not return calls about whether the mission should continue.

By every measure available, Guard troops have helped slow the flow of smugglers and improve the capability of the Border Patrol. They also have bought time for the government, which is working to introduce more lasting security improvements to the border.

So, explain to me why they are cutting the Guard’s presence? Who’s bright, or less than bright, idea was that?
