Man gets nine months for 9th OWI

Sheboygan – An Adell man who fled police while trying to avoid his ninth drunken driving arrest was sentenced to nine months in prison.

David W. Bingham, 44, received a stiffer sentence for his fourth offense, when a Washington County judge in 1995 sentenced him to a full year in jail.

But on Tuesday, Sheboygan County Circuit Court Judge Gary Langhoff sentenced Bingham to nine months in prison, fined him $1,344 and revoked his license for two years.

Bingham pleaded no contest last week to felony counts of ninth-offense operating while intoxicated and fleeing or eluding an officer. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 9 1/2 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

According to a criminal complaint, a deputy tried to stop Bingham’s car Feb. 9 just before midnight after his vehicle veered from its lane and slowed to 10 mph. When the deputy turned on the siren, Bingham accelerated to about 75 mph, prosecutors said.

The chase ended after Bingham missed a curve and crashed into a ditch. He got out of the car and tried to run but he fell in the snow and was captured.

Sheboygan. Big shock. (MAJOR sarcasm)

So, I guess this judge thinks a month per offense is acceptable?
