Church liable for protest at funeral

snyder1x.jpg

A federal jury on Wednesday awarded nearly $11 million to the father of a Marine killed in Iraq after members of a fundamentalist Topeka church picketed his son’s funeral in 2006.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church, founder Fred Phelps and his two daughters after members of the church picketed the funeral of Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder in Westminster, Md.

David Hudson, an attorney with the First Amendment Center, believes this is the first lawsuit filed by the family of a fallen servicemember against funeral protesters. The jury awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages, $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for emotional distress.

Hopefully, it won’t be the last such lawsuit. Now, I’m not one of those who believes you sue at the drop of a hat, but in the case of this evil bunch, I’m all for it!

The church routinely pickets military funerals with signs reading “Thank God for dead soldiers” and “God hates fags,” saying God is punishing America for its immoral ways.

The Biblical ‘definition’ of a church is when two or more are gathered in His name. This bunch is NOT a church, and they are not gathered in HIS name!

The group is planning to picket the memorial services of the seven college students who died in a North Carolina house fire, it said on its website.

I really hope the Patriot Guards will be there. Normally, I wish no one harm, but if one of them got knocked over by a bike or two……..

Albert Snyder sobbed when he heard the verdict and said he would follow the church “until the day I die” to stop its protests at other funerals. His lawyer, Craig Trebilcock, called the verdict the church’s judgment day. “They’re always talking about other people’s judgment day,” he said. “Well, this is theirs.”

I believe very strongly in our freedom of speech. I also believe in responsible speech. I guess knowing a loving G-d makes it impossible to understand the vile hatred these people spew at the families of the very people who have allowed them the right to be evil. I just don’t get it!  I don’t want to.

“I wish no one harm, but if one of them got knocked over by a bike or two………”

Couldn’t agree more…and hey they are already at a cemetary, so its not like the bodies have to be moved that far. These people are nothing but spineless, inbred media whores. They get their kicks out of the pain and misery of others. If there is a Satan even he has to think these people are assholes.

Yeah, I wanted to make a comment about that, but I’m afraid my mouth would have run ahead of my brain. Too many four lettered words for a lady to use.

True justice would be the plaintiff ending up owning all the property and the name of this so-called church. Just like what happened to the Aryan Nation. That group lost a lawsuit to a black family they had harassed. That family now owns the compound and the name.
