Santa?

On the way back from Memphis this morning, Jr and I just had to stop at the mall. Well, of course we did, it was on the way home, after all.

Now, as anyone who has been in a department store in the last two months has noticed, Christmas decorations, clothing and MUSIC is already being shoved down our throats. Now, this is bad enough, but when we saw SANTA CLAUS with kids sitting on his knee, it was just too much.

So, if you just happen to stop into Wolfchase Galleria, don’t be surprised.  The turkey hasn’t even been bought yet for Thanksgiving Day and they seem to think this is ok.  Well, it’s not!

Getting a Beat Down

I think Mayor Juan bit off more than he can chew when he decided to take on Miss Jeni from Sheboygan Shenanigans.

The story has taken another turn today as a law firm has been retained, and the attorney handling the case, is none other than Paul Bucher, the former District Attorney of Waukesha County.

Today, Bucher sent letters to Mayor Perez, City Attorney McClean and Chief Kirk notifying them that he is representing Jennifer Reisinger and is making an Open Records Request for everything pertaining to this fiasco.

Badger Blogger has the links for the letters.  And excellent letters they are, too.

Heh!

Barbour earns second term as Miss. governor

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi’s Republican governor, Haley Barbour, won his second term tonight, quickly outdistancing his Democratic opponent, attorney John Arthur Eaves Junior.

Barbour withstood the after effects of Hurricane Katrina that wiped out other politicians, campaigning on recovery and job creation.

Eaves spent millions in a mostly self-funded campaign.

He often quoted Scripture to criticize Barbour’s connections to what Eaves called “moneychangers” – big oil, tobacco and insurance companies.

Honestly, I was starting to find the Eaves commercials a little creepy.

It’s official!  Old age sucks!  And since the Earth is a WHOLE lot older than I am, I’d say she has every right to have a hot flash or two.  Or, as I prefer to think of them…..brief Caribbean vacations.

Thanks silent E!  :)

Evidently, others were paying closer attention. And they are right. Ya can’t see Matt Lauer’s breath. Now, having lived in the cold climes of Wisconsin, I know full well that when it’s 12 below zero, you’re going to see some breath action. Cuz, well, it’s freakin’ COLD!

Hypocrisy or Decency? The Left’s Dirty Little Secret By Matt Sanchez

Just a snippet:

Another segment commentator, Laura Flanders, a British born mouth-piece for Air America—yes, apparently they still are on the air—accused Representative Curtis and closeted Republicans of being “chickens” for not standing up for “who they are.”

“Being chicken that disqualifies you from holding office,” said Flanders, so proud that someone was actually listening to what she had to say.

For this liberal loon, Larry Craig’s bathroom tap dance, Mark Foley’s love texts to teenage interns and Representative Curtis’ fetish for female nightwear is “who they are” and therefore these legislators should vote for “gay rights” or else they’re hypocrites.

Let’s stop and consider how ridiculous this statement is.

When a chain smoker afflicted with cancer votes for anti-smoking legislation, he probably has good reason for at least attempting to shield the public from what he is already suffering. Why would Foley, Craig or the latest, Curtis, be so proud of their wayward behavior that they would want to pass legislation to validate it? Were these men showing hypocrisy and denial or just insight and concern?

Obey on Iraq: ‘We’ve Run Out of People to Kill’

The man who controls the House purse strings to fund the war in Iraq said the President’s “surge” was showing recent signs of success because U.S. soldiers have “run out of people to kill.”

“One of the reason we’ve had incidents of violence, sectarian violence go down is because they are running out of people to kill,” said the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee Rep. David Obey (D.-Wisc.) at a National Press Club luncheon Monday afternoon.

“They’ve killed so many in so many areas, that there are fewer opportunity targets, if you want to put it that way, for each side,” Obey said. “I welcome any reduction in the level in violence for whatever reasons it occurs, but I don’t think that tells us much for what the future is going to be.”

I know full well there are many really decent, and intelligent, folks in Wisconsin. Knowing that, I’d also like to know why they keep electing morons like Obey!  Is there something in the water?

Bush Urges Pakistani Leader to Hold Elections

President Bush called on Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, yesterday to hold elections and resign his military position as soon as possible, while his administration faced a looming battle with lawmakers on Capitol Hill pushing to limit aid until Musharraf restores constitutional rule.

The comments were the first from Bush since Musharraf declared emergency rule and suspended constitutional rule on Saturday. They underscored how the administration is struggling to balance a drive for democracy in the Muslim world with what it considers Musharraf’s support in the fight against al-Qaeda.

My memory is a little fuzzy. Didn’t they just have elections in the not too distant past? Not knowing how their political system works, I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think suspending the constitution is a good way to build a democracy.

Huckabee finds good will in Thompson territory

During an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday, Thompson had announced that he would not support a constitutional ban on abortion. Huckabee pounced.

“Thompson’s comments … were disappointing and disheartening for those who were expecting him to be a solid voice for conservatives,” Huckabee said in a statement.

“The marriage and life amendments are critical issues for those of us who have been on the front lines of these cultural battles. Sen. Thompson’s philosophy seems to be more ‘cut and run’ when it comes to these issues, rather than stand and lead.”

While I, personally, would love to see a ban on abortion, I think turning it back over to the states is a step in the right direction.

UWM student in stable condition

A University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student shot twice during an apparent robbery is in stable condition this morning with wounds to his knee and chin, according to police.

The victim, 21, was walking into his home in the 2700 block of N. Murray St. when he was approached by two men who demanded money about 11:10 p.m.

Since Milwaukee is a “gun free” zone, this sort of thing really doesn’t happen. Kids getting shot are just a figment of your imagination. (insert MAJOR sarcasm) Prayers for the young man to make a complete recovery.

Senate leader praises farm bill that draws foes of all stripes

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., described the $288 billion, five-year farm bill that reached the Senate floor on Monday as a historic reform, even as a broad coalition of critics denounced it as obscene and warned congressional leaders and presidential candidates that they see changing 70-year old crop subsidies as an election-year test.

The Bush administration issued a blistering veto threat, with acting Agriculture Secretary Chuck Conner saying the bill makes a mockery of budget rules, continues subsidies to “Park Avenue millionaires” and imperils public support for farm programs. He called the bill “just simply wrong.”

First off, Reid is a moron. But that goes without saying. Second, I honestly do not understand the need of big farm conglomerates of taxpayer money. Wouldn’t the small farmers, the family farm, what few there are left, have a bigger need? I’m none too fond of subsidies to begin with. You make or break on your own work. (I’m excluding natural disasters, then, a little help could come in handy.) That’s just the way it is. But if D.C. insists on funding someone, don’t fund the ones who don’t really need it. Sheesh.

Hezbollah holds ‘military exercise’

Two pro-Hezbollah newspapers reported on Monday that thousands of unarmed men from the Shia Muslim movement had taken part in the manoeuvres over the weekend

Al-Akhbar newspaper said they were the “largest scale manoeuvres in the history of Hezbollah” and personally supervised by Hassan Nasrallah, the group’s leader.

However, the government said UN peacekeepers, as well Lebanon’s army and police, had “confirmed nothing on the ground really happened”.

“From what we gathered, there was a simulation on paper, indoors,” Fuad Siniora, the prime minister, said.

“What happened was just an indoors simulation which was not implemented on the ground.”

A little propaganda going on here?

Senate panel to take up AG nomination

A Senate committee prepared to advance Michael Mukasey’s nomination to be the nation’s 81st attorney general after two key Democrats pledged to support him because he promised to enforce a law against waterboarding if one was enacted by Congress.

However, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Patrick Leahy, said Mukasey’s assurance that won over Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer was disingenuous.

I sincerely hope their lives never depend on whether or not interrogators are able to glean information from the bad guys. However, if someone wants to kill my grandchildren, I’m all for any means necessary to save their lives.

Israel puts Jerusalem on the negotiating table

Mr. Olmert’s statement reiterated recent remarks by Israel’s deputy prime minister indicating that Israel must be prepared to discuss giving up parts of Jerusalem – potentially dividing the city – in upcoming negotiations with the Palestinians.

“It is in Israel’s interest that all the Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem receive international recognition and that Arab neighborhoods like Walajeh and Shuafat are transferred to the Palestinians,” Haim Ramon, the vice premier, told cabinet members last month.

Absolutely NOT a good idea. Inch…..mile.
