Nashville Celebrates Veterans’ Day Monday

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Sunday was Veteran’s Day, but the big parade in downtown Nashville is Monday, and not everyone is happy that it was moved back a day.

According to the calendar, November 11th is the holiday, but several civilians are confused. Some cities celebrated Saturday, some Sunday, and Nashville will have its parade on Monday.

Federal workers, banks, and post offices will all be closed on Monday. However, schools are open.

The annual march down Broadway was moved to Monday because of the Titans’ game on Sunday.

“I think it’s a good thing. Because, I mean, if they’re going to be overshadowed by the Titans, at least they are going to have a chance to get more people out,” said Titans’ fan, Mark Photivihok.

“I think it’s kinda sad. I think football should — I think the veterans should take precedent to football,” said Celia Vineyard of Bloomington, IL.

But even the planners of the parade knew in a tangle with the Titans which party would win.

“And rather than to screw up two good events, you know, a tree that does not bend will break. We moved the parade until tomorrow,” said Fred Tucker, Nashville with the Davidson County Veterans’ Coordinating Council.

Shoshanna Johnson, the first black female POW of operation Iraqi Freedom, will be in the parade.

The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. The route for the parade is Broadway to 3rd Avenue. Broadway and West End between 18th and 13th avenues will be closed for staging. Traffic on I-40 will not be allowed to exit at Broadway, until the end of the parade.

I don’t care what team you root for, Titans, Packers, Cowboys, Giants, BFE Bozos for all I care….not a one of them comes even close to deserving the honor that our veterans deserve.  When a city puts a bunch of prima donnas, earning an obscene amount of money for playing a stupid game, ahead of the ones who gave them the freedom to be jackasses when the mood strikes….. Sorry, words just fail me.

Bravo! I’m with you, ‘Ol broad ;) (and I’m an other ‘ol broad, too) football should NOT supercede Veteran’s day. That is a such an insult to all our brave armed forces, past, present and future.

And what a way to talk from this guy Fred Tucker…”And rather than to screw up… — real dignified there Mr. Tucker!

PS. GO, PACK, GO!!! (Teasing — couldn’t resist) ;)
