An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

Lynchburg

Jr and I spent a great afternoon in Lynchburg! If you are ever in the are, I would highly recommend taking a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery. It is great. Some areas serious stink, but I guess that’s all part of the process. Oh, and by the way, when they tell ya to taste the charcoal……don’t. YUCK!

Here’s a few pics:

Big piles of sugar maples they burn to make that charcoal they use to filter. There were a LOT of big piles.

A couple of cool truck things. I think one was from the 20′s and the other from the 30′s? Ok, so I can’t remember, but I thought they were pretty neat anyways.

That would be ol’ Jack himself, with Jr of course. She’s having a bad hair day! Did you know his real name was Jasper? Me neither, but I do now. He had quite an interesting history.

This evidently is the only original building still standing, which was the office of the head honchos for quite a few years.

This is one of the many sugar maples in the near vicinity of the distillery that has turned black due to all it’s cousins being roasted.

Ooops….forgot one…..

According to the tour guide, these ducks don’t quack.  They say ‘buy jack’, ‘buy jack’.  Ok, it’s silly, but cute at the time.

After the tour, we were able to actually buy a bottle or two or four. It’s the only place in the county that is allowed to sell any kind of alcohol and only specific bottles. You can also purchase, for the princely sum of TEN GRAND, your very own barrel. Of course, they have to put it in the bottles before they ship it to ya, but they send the barrel too. It’s extremely advisable to be home when they make the delivery. :)

One other stop that must be made….the town square! What a terrific little town. Obviously, it caters the to the tourist, but that’s ok, that’s what we were today. Jr had to have a No. 7 t-shirt of course. Mine, on the other hand, says “Possum: the other white meat!” Ok, I thought it was funny.

There is one place that is a must visit, but sadly, I can’t remember the name of it. I can tell you it’s right next door to Nina’s. Nina’s has every type of chocolate imaginable so naturally, we had to pop in there before heading home. But the place next door will put your taste buds in heaven. Canoli heaven!

Just go. It’s well worth the trip!

I always enjoy going new places, but I’m really happy to be home. At least for a few days. Next trip…..Wisconsin for Thanksgiving.
