Roger Staubach

When Roger Staubach retired from the Dallas Cowboys after the 1979 season, his career passer efficiency rating of 83.4 was the best of all time. Known as a scrambler who ran for 20 touchdowns, Staubach was primarily a winner who came up with big plays in the clutch. After joining the Cowboys as a 27-year-old rookie following four years in the Navy, Staubach led the Cowboys into six NFL title games, winning four and posting a 2-2 record in Super Bowls.

Criminy! Get it right guys! :)

RUDY MITT HUCKSTER’S EVOLVING IMMIGRATION STAND

For a connoisseur of hypocrisy, the shifting immigration stands of three GOP candidates is a banquet.

Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney have begun doing passable impressions of Lou Dobbs. But can you trust a candidate whose record contradicts his campaign rhetoric? (That was a rhetorical question.)

Last week’s CNN/YouTube debate was a hoot. Romney and Rudy squared off on what’s shaping up to be the defining issue of Campaign 2008 — with the dignity of a couple of rabid mongooses.

Rudy — who wants to “secure the border” (is there anyone, including Hillary, who says they don’t?) — bragged that as mayor of New York he reported to the feds every illegal who committed murder, rape or child molestation.

Oh, big bleepin’ deal, Romney shot back. If they’re here illegally, they’re already criminals. At the same time, the former Massachusetts governor admitted he doesn’t favor deporting all illegals who are caught, but — gosh darn it all — they shouldn’t get government benefits, he resolutely declared.

Romney accused Giuliani of operating a sanctuary city (true). Rudy accused Mitt of running a “sanctuary mansion” — employing illegals to do yard work at his Belmont home. (Who knows?)

Earlier, Mike Huckabee — who also says he wants to secure the Southern demarcation, and opposes amnesty and sanctuary cities — unveiled a comprehensive plan (you should pardon the expression) for immigration reform — which consists of sending his most prominent supporter, action star Chuck Norris, to the border. That’s how serious the debate has become.

An interesting read.

Lawyer: Teen at center of “Jena 6″ case close to plea deal

Mychal Bell, a black teenager who is now 17, was originally charged as an adult with attempted murder in the beating of a white classmate at Jena High School in central Louisiana about a year ago.

That charge was reduced before a jury convicted him in June of aggravated second-degree battery. In September, the verdict was thrown out by an appeals court that said Bell should have been tried as a juvenile.

What happened to all the protests?

Udall target of ad attack
A 527 group with ties to a GOP operative fires the opening shots in the U.S. Senate race.

The first of the ads that will run over the next two weeks in three major markets, including Denver and Colorado Springs, shows two men talking about a bill that Udall co-sponsored in 2001 to establish an $8 billion Cabinet-level Department of Peace. One of the men in the ad says that “radical Islam wants Americans dead” before asking, “What part of dead doesn’t Mark Udall understand?”

So? What’s the problem? What part of dead DOESN’T he understand?

The second, targeting a bill that Udall introduced this year to allow American companies to drill for oil off Cuba despite the current trade embargo, has the five-term congressman from Boulder County receiving a mock “Cuban hero award” from Fidel Castro. It contrasts Udall’s willingness to let American companies drill off Cuba with his opposition to drilling on Colorado’s Roan Plateau.

Again? What’s the problem? I guess he doesn’t understand the word ‘embargo’ either. I wonder if the Denver Post will be running stories about 527 groups with Democrat ties?

Venezuelans Deny Chávez Additional Authority

Venezuelan voters delivered a stinging defeat to President Hugo Chávez on Sunday, blocking proposed constitutional changes that would have given him political supremacy and accelerated the transformation of this oil-rich country into a socialist state.

Hours after the final ballots were cast, the National Electoral Council announced at 1:15 a.m. local time Monday that voters, by a margin of 51 to 49 percent, had rejected 69 reforms to the 1999 constitution. The modifications would have permitted the president to stand for reelection indefinitely, appoint governors to provinces he would create and control Venezuela’s sizable foreign reserves.

When given a choice, people will choose freedom. Congrats to the folks of Venezuela!

Sudanese President Pardons British Teacher Jailed for ‘Muhammad’ Teddy Bear

A British teacher jailed after she allowed her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad was released Monday hours after Sudan’s president pardoned her, a British embassy spokesman said.

Spokesman Omar Daair said Gillian Gibbons was in “British embassy custody,” but he would not give her exact location or say when she would leave Sudan, citing security reasons.

I sure hope they get her out of there in a hurry. If the rioters want to whack someone, let them WHACK each other!

Obama Draws Clinton’s Ire Over Early Ambition

With a new poll showing that Senator Obama of Illinois may be overtaking Senator Clinton in the early presidential caucus state of Iowa, Mrs. Clinton’s camp is taking the unusual step of reaching all the way back to Mr. Obama’s kindergarten days to find evidence of his duplicity about how long he has had designs on the White House.

I thought she had actually been running since she wore those butt ugly britches back in the 60s and 70s? Oh, was that when Obama was in kindergarten? Heh.

Government adviser: ‘God Save The Queen’ is not inclusive and may need changing

Some of the words of the national anthem are not “inclusive” and might need replacing, the ex-minister leading a citizenship review for Gordon Brown suggested today.

Former attorney general Lord Goldsmith said there was a problem with later verses of God Save the Queen and that some people were arguing for a change.

Say whut?

Moms over 40 a risky trend

One woman was on her second career and married to a man who already had children. She was certain she didn’t want a child of her own. Then she hit 45, and suddenly having a baby was the only thing that mattered.

Other women were busy with medical, law or graduate school and then long hours at the office. Their 40s just seemed to sneak up on them.

You turn 45 and decide you want something to take care of….get a puppy, or adopt an older child!

Rick Noriega formally announces plans to run for U.S. Senate

Democratic State Rep. Rick Noriega is formally kicking off his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.

The five-term state lawmaker plans to file his candidacy papers later Monday, after a breakfast with supporters in Houston.

Noriega is a lieutenant colonel in the Texas Army National Guard who spent 14 months in Afghanistan.

He supports ending the war in Iraq and setting firm timetables for withdrawing troops.

He was actually there and still wants time tables? Hmmm…. Ok, EVERYONE supports an end to war. It’s HOW you end a war that matters. I’m thinking HONOR and VICTORY trumps whining politicians. But, maybe I’m wrong.
