An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Buh-bye!
Illegal immigrants packing up and leaving Arizona
Illegal immigrants in Arizona, frustrated with a flagging economy and tough new legislation cracking down on their employers, are returning to their home countries or trying their luck in other states.
For months, immigrants have taken a wait-and-see attitude toward the state’s new employer-sanctions law, which takes effect January 1. The voter-approved legislation is an attempt to lessen the economic incentive for illegal immigrants in Arizona, the busiest crossing point along the U.S.-Mexico border.
And by all appearances, it’s starting to work.
“People are calling me telling me about their friend, their cousin, their neighbors — they’re moving back to Mexico,” said Magdalena Schwartz, an immigrant-rights activist and pastor at a Mesa church. “They don’t want to live in fear, in terror.”
Martin Herrera, a 40-year-old illegal immigrant and masonry worker who lives in Camp Verde, 70 miles north of Phoenix, said he is planning to return to Mexico as soon as he ties up loose ends after living here for four years.
“I don’t want to live here because of the new law and the oppressive environment,” he said. “I’ll be better in my country.”
He called the employer-sanctions law “absurd.”
“Everybody here, legally or illegally, we are part of a motor that makes this country run,” Herrera said. “Once we leave, the motor is going to start to slow down.”
I know some think I’m a cold hearted b*tch. Well, that may be true, but I don’t think so. Many say our grandparents came ‘illegally’ through Ellis Island. Not exactly, they had to go through a line that seemed to stretch on forever, give a minimum of a name to be written in a book. 100 years later, we are seeing an influx of illegals, many who refuse to learn the language, yet insist on being treated like they are citizens, with access to any number of taxpayer benefits. Something just isn’t right with this scenario. So, many cities and states are actually starting to enforce the law. What a novel concept!
When those ‘huddled masses’ came through Ellis, with little more than the clothes on their backs, the world was a very different place. The country was still basically wide open, and anyone with the will, could make their way to the top. Yes, we have blended quite well, incorporating much that those first immigrants brought with them from their home countries. St. Patrick’s Day comes to mind. I have a real issue with Cinco de Mayo though. Celebrating another country’s independence? Hmmmm……
On the other hand, we have a whole generation who think they have the right to have translators. Why do I have to “Press 1″ for English? Why are so many hospitals closing their doors? Why are American citizens refused taxpayer aid when they are in desperate need, yet illegals don’t seem to have much trouble getting it?
Honestly, I don’t care what color you are, what language your parents spoke, etc. I am empathetic to to the plight of those who want to find economic stability, to support their families, to make something of themselves. The ‘jobs that Americans won’t do’, in reality, are few and far between if they want to eat, put a roof over their heads, and clothe their kids.
If you want to make a future for yourself and your family, do it LEGALLY. That’s all we ask. You will be welcomed with open arms.

Those coming through Ellis Island were legal.
Those sneaking across the border via the desert are not.
Most of us know the difference between legal and illegal.
It is the illegal immigrants we have a problem with.
It’s kind of like someone coming into your home. You’ve worked really hard to get it exactly the way you want it, yet slowly but surely, things are being changed. No matter how hard you try to keep it just so, it becomes more and more difficult, becaue the changer are getting more aggressive. when you try, the ‘guest’ gets angry at you for even considering not having things their way. The person invites others to come into your house, and you have more changing going on. Your home doesn’t even resemble what it was once, after all your hard work. They laugh at you for being foolish. And tell you this is THEIR home now, and you must leave. Where will you go? You can’t just pick up and leave. You’ve got a lot of time and money invested in your home that’s quickly becoming unrecognizable. But you still have to pay the bills. After all it’s your responsibility. Your ‘company’ just sits around, watched tv, throws trash on the floor, and demands you give him everything you’ve got. It’s his now.
A simplistic way of putting it. But that’s exactly what is happening.
We are not “foreigners”, All of you Europeans are…not that I don’t share blood with you even if you refuse to ackowledge
European Spanish & Native American ethnicity by calling us “mexican” even when I do not pay taxes to the country of Mexico
nor do have citizenship from there either…it’s funny how you hypocrites don’t call Candaian Ex-Patriots
“Canadian-American” even though some speak a foreign language like “French” & not “native” lingo like “English”
personally I Nor anyone with native-american blood needs your damn permission to cross invisible borders that your
ancestors refused to acknowledge when it was convenient for them to take other people’s ancestral lands…well folks
what comes around goes around…Divine Karma is inevitable whether you want it or not…& now we are laughing our asses
off. None of you can stop it…delay it yes…stop it no…but I understand if all you pale-skins need to feel in control
& superior to us…greed, power over your fellow man, & paranoid hypocrisy is the only true legacy of this country
& I am a patriot who graduated from USMMA, & My Dad is an ex-marine vietnam vet as well, so keep your stupid presumptions
to yourselves unless it’s honest & intelligent …hypocrites…
Listen Gomer, you cross that border from another country, you are a ‘foreigner’. And I never used that word. I said ILLEGAL! My ancestors were here before the Spanish even stumbled onto the Americas!
Now, I thank your dad for his service. That being said, when I can sneak across the border into Mexico, and have the same rights as a citizen, we’ll talk. Until then, use that educated brain for something more than a hat rack.
And by the way, that hyphen is what is separating us!
Ah… I found the ‘Gomer’ comment…
Yep, you were right… ‘Gomer’
Like I told TexasFred…
I think we should help these poor, helpless, Illegal immigrants out and give a cut rate for ‘one-way’ rentals to Mexico from U-haul.
la prisa, ayuna, va
Ol Broad, this is pretty mild compared to all the bullshit I get from the Paulies…
Well, that’s true…you get all the good moonbats! LOL
