Edwards Denounces Pro-Obama Ad, Calls it ‘Divisive Politics’
Addressing a crowd of several hundred supporters at a rally in Las Vegas on Friday, John Edwards denounced an ad running in Nevada by a national labor union supporting Barack Obama.
The pro-Obama radio ad, airing on two Spanish stations and sponsored by a group called UNITE HERE (the parent union of Culinary Workers’ 266 that has endorsed Obama), calls Hillary Clinton “shameless†and says “she does not respect our people.â€
I am going to have to disagree with the Breck Girl! That “shameless” comment? It’s true, so what’s the problem?
Then there’s that other comment, “she does not respect our people” claptrap. Uh, who are “our people”? If you are voting, I’m going to go on the assumption you are an American citizen. If so, then that too, is an accurate statement. Hillary Clinton has no respect for the American people. You see, to people like the Clintons, we lower beings are incapable of running our own live, and they, or more specifically, she, believes she must take control. Pfft! That woman can’t even control her own husband, what on earth makes anyone think she could do better than we can.
However, if those who made the ad believe they are separate from the rest of us….well, blow it out yer wazoo! I’ll agree with Johnny, and it’s a tacky ad. Well, at least that part of it.
Fred on the Huckster’s Comment
The Constitution is Not a “Living, Breathing Documentâ€
This morning I heard that one of the other candidates commented that the Constitution is a “living, breathing document.â€
Frankly, I assumed this came from Senator Clinton or Senator Obama. It is identical to what Al Gore said when he was running for President in 2000, when he said he would look for judges “who understand that our Constitution is a living, breathing document, that it was intended by our founders to be interpreted in the light of the constantly evolving experience of the American people.â€
Imagine my surprise when I learned that this statement actually came from my opponent, Governor Huckabee, in an interview with CNN this morning. Now I know Governor Huckabee was talking about amending the Constitution, but I don’t think he understood that he was using code words that support judicial activism.
He does not appear to understand that reliance on the notion that the Constitution is a living, breathing document is precisely the kind of wrong-headed thinking about the Constitution that gave us Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion across our nation, and Lawrence v. Texas, which decriminalized sodomy.
I do not believe the Constitution is a living, breathing document. I am committed to appointing strict constructionist judges to the bench if I am elected President, strict constructionists who believe the Constitution has a fixed meaning that can be applied to cases that come before the courts today. They do NOT believe the Constitution is a “living, breathing document,†whose meaning, constantly changing with the sifting sands of our culture, can be determined and applied by unelected judges.
I fear that this loose language about our Constitution calls into question Governor Huckabee’s appreciation and understanding of the issue of judicial activism and raises questions as to what kind of judges he would appoint were he to become President.
The first time I ever heard that phrase about the Constitution, I was somewhat taken aback. It came from my own daughter, aka ‘brat’. I had NO idea what she was talking about. I suppose all the variety of people she had met up to that time had a greater influence on her than I thought.
Sadly, the Constitution has been twisted and molded to suit those who don’t much care for the idea of “G-d given”. Â And now it seems Huckleberry isn’t even consistent in how he sees this essential document?
Home!
While it’s nice to take a day or two for ourselves, and just ‘get away’, it’s just as nice, if not more so, to come home.
So, how did we do at the casinos ya ask? Well, even if you aren’t asking, I’m gonna tell ya anyway. We did ok. Since we stick to slots, we don’t expect to own the place. Wednesday evening, the Mr got a couple of bucks here and there. Thursday, the Mr got a few bucks here and there. Pretty much broke even I guess. Me? Well, Wednesday, I lost a few bucks. Thursday, again, I lost a few bucks. Today? Well, does taking out $657 out on a $50 ‘investment’ count? How ’bout $485 on $60?Â
Hey, it was a definite first for me, so I’m fairly pleased.

Major Volcanic Eruption in Colombia Forces Thousands to Evacuate
A volcano erupted violently in southwestern Colombia Thursday, spewing ash miles into the sky and prompting the evacuation of several thousand people living nearby.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious property damage after the 14,110-foot Galeras volcano began erupting about 8 p.m. and cascading lava lit up the night sky.
Hope everyone will be ok.
Police: Victim Drunk During Tiger Attack
One of the three victims of San Francisco Zoo tiger attack was intoxicated and admitted to yelling and waving at the animal while standing atop the railing of the big cat enclosure, police said in court documents filed Thursday.
Paul Dhaliwal, 19, told the father of Carlos Sousa Jr., 17, who was killed, that the three yelled and waved at the tiger but insisted they never threw anything into its pen to provoke the cat, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle.
The stupid decisions we make as teens will affect us the rest of our lives. Sad to say, these kids learned the hard way. It was Christmas Day….why weren’t they spending time with their families? Just wondering.
Brilliant chess master, world-class eccentric Bobby Fischer dies
Chess master Bobby Fischer, one of the greatest chess players in history, has died, a spokesman for the World Chess Federation confirmed to CNN Friday. He was 64.
No cause of death was given.

Stolen laptops, data disks found
Metro police recovered two stolen laptops at a house in Goodlettsville on Thursday night just hours after recovering the computers’ hard drives — containing names and Social Security numbers of 337,000 Davidson County voters — at a coffee bar on Fourth Avenue South.
The computers and their disks were found based on information provided by a homeless man who turned himself in Thursday morning and told police he had stolen the machines from the county Election Commission offices on Christmas Eve.
I wonder how many, if any, of that information has been sold. Hopefully, none!
McCain, Giuliani ‘abysmal’ on amnesty issue, says grassroots group
Roy Beck, president of Numbers USA, says four of the Republican presidential candidates score excellent when it comes to opposing amnesty for millions of illegal aliens in the United States. Two, however, remain “abysmal” on the issue, according to the analysis.
The grassroots immigration organization has released its latest scorecard on what the GOP presidential candidates have been saying in regard to the issue of amnesty. Beck says Mitt Romney — hot off his victory in Michigan — along with Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, and Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-California) all received grades of “excellent.” Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) received a “good” score.
“The difference between good and excellent is that sort of sense of full commitment to the whole package,” he explains. “So going into the Michigan contest, voters really had excellent choices when it came to amnesty.”
Now, if the rest of the country could figure it out. I question that Huckleberry score though.
Secret terrorist to be sentenced in NY
He pleaded guilty more than five years ago to plotting bomb attacks on American embassies, but the case against al-Qaida member Mohammed Mansour Jabarah has been shrouded in secrecy until now.
Jabarah was to emerge from the shadows Friday to be sentenced, likely to life in prison, for his brief career in terror. It included training with Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan and unsuccessfully planning to bomb embassies in the Philippines and Singapore, prosecutors said in court papers.
Ok, if he pled guilty five years ago, why is there still an ongoing case?

Republicans in S.C., Democrats in Nevada Tout Economic Plans
Hillary Rodham Clinton reached out to poor black voters as she and other U.S. presidential candidates tapped into Americans’ recession fears ahead of important races in South Carolina and Nevada.
Both Democratic and Republican races were extremely tight going into the Saturday contests. The Republicans, after three major earlier races that netted three separate winners, lacked a clear front-runner. Polls in Nevada showed Clinton and fellow Democrat Barack Obama locked in a statistical dead heat with rival John Edwards, but Obama could get a boost from a favorable court ruling Thursday.
Now, I might be extremely naive, but since when does the president, of either party, have control of the purse strings?
Campaigning Thursday in the crime-ridden, largely-black city of Compton, California, Clinton pledged that as president she would improve the economic lot of blacks. Days after she and Obama declared a truce on racial matters, Clinton, who wants to be the first female U.S. president, is seeking support from blacks, who were a key constituency for her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
To be perfectly honest, it’s the Dhimmis who have created the problems in the black community, starting with FDR. The welfare society, the YOU owe ME mindset, etc. Isn’t it about time for the community’s REAL leaders, and I don’t mean the Jackson and Sharpton types, to step forward and take back their independence, and break the chains of slavery from government control? Just a thought.
On Thursday, Clinton outlined a so-called “green collar†jobs program she said she will create to develop alternative sources of energy, and said she would spend $200 million (euro136 million) over five years to help ex-offenders transition from prison.
Uh, the president doesn’t create jobs. Being the ‘smartest woman in the world’, you think she’d know this.
She promised to assist the troubled city’s mayor with his goal of “birthing†a new Compton.
“I know something about birthing,†Clinton said. “You need a president who will be a partner. Who says, ‘What is it I can do to make sure this birth is easy and successful?â€â€˜
Why does this woman make me think of Nicholae Carpathia from the “Left Behind” series? As for the ‘birthing’, hell if that’s all ya need to make ya president, I’m just as qualified, as are MILLIONS of women across this country.
The Republican candidates seized on the economy issue as they campaigned in South Carolina, which has been losing textile and steel jobs. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney had touted a similar message in his native Michigan, and it helped propel him to his first win.
At least Romney has a big clue how business works, as do most of the other Pubbie candidate….with the exception of maybe Huckleberry. Not too sure what he knows, other than Scripture.
Mike Huckabee, the preacher-turned politician who is running on a message of economic populism, put the blame for economic worries on Washington while seeking the votes of South Carolina steel workers.
A lot of the blame does lie in D.C., but not all. There are special interests groups (environazis, etc.) all across this country that have been running the show for quite a while, and it might be a good idea to see who is connected to those groups, and can ‘em!
Obama and Clinton later called a truce in the controversy, and Clinton offered another olive branch Thursday when asked whether she would consider choosing Obama as her vice presidential running mate.
“I can’t think that far ahead because it’s bad luck, I’m very superstitious, and I don’t want to be presumptuous,†she said. “But he is an extraordinary man and has so much to give our country. I hope however this works out he will be a major figure in American politics for years and years to come.â€
Do I detect a little sucking up going on in the Dhimmis? Hmmm…. I see a scenario…Obama gets the nomination, picks the Shrilldebeast as VP, they win, Obama dies or is incapacitated to the point he can’t continue, and the Shriller takes over. (shibbers)
Separately, Obama got a boost when a judge in Nevada ruled to allow casino workers from meeting for votes at Las Vegas Strip hotels. Obama has been endorsed by the union representing many of the casino shift workers, and the ruling means those working Saturday would not have to go all the way back to the neighborhoods they live in to be able to attend caucus meetings.
Wait a minute….I thought the unions were in the pocket of the Clintons? Hmmmm…. Curious.
