An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Deer In The Headlights
I attended my first Hardin County Republican Party meeting tonight. Why the first? Well, because they haven’t had any meetings since last April. I don’t suppose they’ve noticed that there’s a rather important election in the not too distant future. But that’s neither here, nor there. I was reminded by those fine folks is something I knew, but had forgotten. Local happenings are extremely important!
Being new to the area, I’m clueless! Yep, I know nothing about local politics. Perhaps if there was an actual newspaper that had real information between it’s pages, I wouldn’t feel like I was listening to a foreign language. But, alas, the local rag is best used as a cat pan liner. Well, unless I want to buy someone’s old tractor, or milk can, or some other essential item….that I don’t need.
There was a gentleman who declared his candidacy for state senator. I can’t remember his name, although I do know he is a former mayor of Savannah (TN). Seems like a nice enough guy, but as he talked, I realized he didn’t say WHY I should throw my support behind him. Yes, having a majority in the state senate would be very nice, but why would he be the right guy?
Obviously, I’ll learn as I go along. That is, if I don’t get so frustrated with the whole kit-n-kaboodle, like I have with the national field.

I smell a RINO … vote for me because I have an R behind my name, not because I stand for anything.
Everyone in the room evidently knew the guy, but hey, that doesn’t mean they know where he stands either. If he has an event, I’ll go, but if he doesn’t lay out his argument for running, he can kiss my potential support bye bye.
