Making a Switch Soon

If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll have noticed that the page loads have slowed down to the point of being absurd. Silent E has been trying to get the problem resolved (he’s on the same host, slot, whatever ya call it), but has gotten no relief from the geniuses at StartLogic. The following is a conversation he had with one of their very helpful tech support folks (insert MASSIVE SARCASM):

Chat InformationWelcome to StartLogic! You are number 1 in the queue. Please be prepared to answer your Security Question when we begin chatting. To enhance our security protocols, we’ll need you to provide the answer to your Security Question at the beginning of our conversation. If you have not yet set your Security Question and Answer, please log into your account now to set it up. Thank you. Please hold for the next available operator to respond.
Chat InformationYou are now chatting with ‘Sandy Ray’

Sandy Ray: Hi Eric. My name is Sandy Ray, how are you today?

Eric: OK….. You?

Sandy Ray: I’m great, thank you. How can I help you today?

Eric: 3 site that we have on your server utilize Wordpress and 3 sites are html. The wordpress sites are horribly slow. We’ve had them optomized but still slow. Could you be having problems with a php server??

Sandy Ray: To protect your account from unauthorized changes, can you please verify for me the answer to the Security Question:

Sandy Ray: What is your mother’s maiden name?

Eric: All aspects of the sites are slow.. Page loads and admin.
Eric: ***********

Sandy Ray: Thank you for the authentication.

Sandy Ray: We have not experiencing the slowness with the PHP servers.

Eric: Any suggestions? It’s taking 5 mins to load admin then they same when navigating admin..

Sandy Ray: Please contact the ISP.

Eric: it’s not the ISP.. The sites are accessed through multiple ISP’s depending on the time of day and the site. It’s always the same.
Eric: We know at least a dozen others using the same wordpress software on different webhosts and they are not having any issues

Sandy Ray: Can you please provide me the exact URL where you are getting the error?

Eric: one is http://silentespeaks.com

Sandy Ray: It may be a temporary issue and will be resolved.

Eric: The other sites are http://olbroad.com and http://waleswisconsin.org

Eric: BTW we have been having multiple problems since the new vdeck platform was implemented…

Sandy Ray: It may be a temporary issue and will be resolved.

Eric: OK…… do we know what the problem is and the ETR?

Sandy Ray: There is no exact time and it will corrected itself.

Eric: This has been going on for a number of weeks now. If there was a problem that is self correcting, how come it didn’t correct itself then???? I really need to know if there is a known problem or if I need to find another webhost. We have not been satisfied since the platform change

Sandy Ray: It may be a temporary issue and will be resolved.

Eric: Do you know what the issue is??

Sandy Ray: No

Eric: Do you have a ticket number I can reference?

Sandy Ray: No.
Sandy Ray: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Eric: How am I suppose to track the progress of what is being done if I need to contact Startlogic again?

Sandy Ray: You can contact the chat support.
Sandy Ray: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Eric: And reference what?? Surely you must assign unresolved issues a trouble ticket number.

Sandy Ray: Okay.
Sandy Ray: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Eric: No… I will escalate this with management later today

Sandy Ray: Could you please let us know if you have contacted us earlier via e-mail with regards to the same issue?

Eric: I have but I never received a response

Sandy Ray: Thank you for chatting with us. Please feel free to contact us at any time. We are available 24×7.
Sandy Ray: Bye!

Yup….a veritable genius! Thanks to the type of “help” that Sandy Ray offered, we will be moving to a new host. Not sure when this will happen, but hopefully, in the not too distant future!

Update 8:30 pm 3/28/2008 – We’re movin’ on up.  One note; you no longer have to type olbroad.com/WordPress; just typing olbroad.com will work.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. If you are looking for a host, I have been on HostMonster for several months now, and things have been good for me. They also offer SSH access and fairly high quotas. Check them out if you haven’t had a chance yet.

    Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the suggestion Craig. I honestly don’t know which one we’ll be going with at this point. We’ve got a couple of folks working on it. :)

[...] MIA By silent e Yeah I’ve been laying low this week simply because our web host has been sucking a**. The page loads have been awful,  my site admin has been so slow that I couldn’t handle posting because I’m pretty sure I would’ve had an aneurysm. Ol’ Broad and I share a server and she’s been posting about our issues. [...]
