Judge Blocks County Ordinance on Adult Businesses

A federal judge ruled Tuesday, April 29, 2008 to block an ordinance passed by county leaders on adult businesses in Shelby County. The ruling was made only eight hours before the new rules were to become effective.

Under the new ordinance, all employees of the businesses - from janitors to strippers - would be required to have background checks ordered and to carry a permit that could be shown to law enforcement officers on demand.

The new rules also banned beer sales at all strip clubs in Shelby County, as well as required dancers to wear “pasties” and stay at least six feet from customers and other dancers while performing.

Judge Bernice Donald’s decision stops the ordinance from taking effect at midnight as previously scheduled. County leaders plan to appeal Donald’s decision and will take the case to the Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio. A date for that hearing has not been scheduled at this time.

What kind of background checks do ya run on jigglers?  I just had to ask.

Outstanding warrants? Failure to pay child support?

If you’re checking the male employees for stalking, assault, or other crimes against women, you should probably check the customers, too.

    Silicone or Natural?
If my wife wouldn’t kill me, I would help with the background check for that :)

Hmmm….welp, Memphis being Memphis, with all that checking, odds are, ya couldn’t run such a business. Heh. Personally, I’d be quite happy if there were no such places…..ANYWHERE.

If they did a check on the customers, odds are, U of M wouldn’t have a football team.

But hey, that’s just me. It’s not one of those businesses I frequent anyway. :)

Hmmm….would the ACLU say it’s a violation of some “right” or other?

Scoff, I don’t EVEN wanna know!
