Iranian President’s Visit Is a Test for India
The Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, arrived here for a dinner meeting with government officials on Tuesday, but he was expected to sign no path-breaking bilateral deals, nor iron out the kinks in a proposed 1,600-mile-long natural gas pipeline. Instead, he brought the Indian government a strange boon: a chance to show that it is willing to buck pressure from the White House and shake hands with a man Washington reviles.
(You know, that last sentence could have been left out, and story might have been worth taking the time to read.) Given the close proximity of India to Iran, and the large NON muslim population, it would be in India’s best interest not to bow down to the whims of Ahmabooboo.
John Ford enters federal prison in Louisiana
Prison spokesman Karen Million said Ford, who arrived by personal vehicle at 1:40 p.m., would have a prison orientation session and a medical screening and will be given a work assignment today.
Ford, a Tennessee legislator for more than 30 years, was convicted last year of accepting $55,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as crooked businessmen willing to pay for special legislation.
It’s about flippin’ time he got his sorry self behind bars!
Swastikas bring stiff penalties for Dickinson cheerleaders
The girls used a pen to draw a swastika on a blackboard in their seventh-period cheerleader class and several swastikas on the classroom wall, LaTouche said. They also attempted to draw a swastika on a U.S. flag, but only made a black mark, he said.
Cheerleader class? No wonder the girls had no clue what the ramifications are, if they spend their time in “cheerleader” class. Ever hear of World History? U.S. History? You know, the type of classes that actually TEACH them something?
Barak: This isn’t the time for a truce
“This is not the right time for a cease-fire with Hamas,” said Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday, on a morning in which 13 Kassam rockets and mortar shells slammed into the western Negev.
During a tour of the security barrier in Samaria, Barak said Israel was in “a confrontation with Hamas” and not in a situation in which it could talk about calm.
Truce? The only people who would honor a truce would be Israel, and that’s the LAST thing they should be doing right now.
Suffolk mayor: ‘We’re going to be OK’
She stressed that it would take time to assess the damage and begin to repair it, but that the city was ready to begin the task.
“We have what we need, and the only thing we ask is patience and understanding,” Johnson said. “Give us time to get into these neighborhoods and see what exactly is there. We have everything we need. We have the state police helping us, and all of our localities around us have come forward to help, and the citizens have come forward unbelievably.”
This is one those events that makes you find out just what you are made of. Red Cross. Salvation Army.
Cigarette Smugglers Funnel Money to Terror Groups, Report Finds
The report reads in part: Cigarette smuggling is generating millions of dollars every year that can be reaching terrorist groups, including Hezbollah, Hamas and Al Qaeda, according to law enforcement sources. In a single case, $100,000 was sent to Hezbollah.
“This is a very serious homeland security issue, one that has gone unnoticed for far too long,” said Rep. Peter King, (R-N.Y.), the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, who called for the investigation.
“Cigarette smugglers are able to generate millions of dollars in illegal profits with a great deal of this wealth being sent to terrorist groups overseas – groups that would like nothing more than to inflict devastating harm on our country and its citizens.”
What does Homeland Security actually do? They sure aren’t securing the homeland (borders anyone?). How long is it going to be before the PC crowd realizes that being PC can quite easily get people killed?
‘Land for Peace’ Means Iran in the Golan
Israeli Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz said ceding the Golan Heights to Syria means putting Iran there.
“Due to the fact that there is a strengthening of the radical axis, and Syria is very central and dominant component of the radical axis, any handover of the Golan Heights to them [the Syrians] means Iranians in the Golan Heights,” Mofaz said, following Monday’s meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Didn’t they try that “land for peace” nonsense before, and it seems to me there’s been disastrous results. You can give them the moon, but it’s not going to stop them from doing their utmost to destroy Israel. Letting Iran is tantamount saying it’s ok to kill. NOT a good idea!
The top White House terrorism expert thinks some gains are being made in the worldwide public relations battle against al-Qaida, as the administration and its overseas allies press efforts to show that Osama bin Laden’s network is killing Muslim civilians rather than defending its interests.
“More and more Muslim and Arab populations — (including) clerics and scholars — are questioning the value of al-Qaida’s program,” Juan Carlos Zarate, deputy assistant to the president and deputy national security adviser for combating terrorism, said last week at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
Al qaeda has a program? Yeah…killing people, enslaving others. What’s not to question? Criminy!
Judge orders federal government to decide polar bear listing
A federal judge has ordered the Interior Department to decide within 16 days whether polar bears should be listed as a threatened species because of global warming.
Slippery slope!
UN sets up food crisis task force
The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, is setting up a task force to tackle the global food crisis.
Mr Ban said the world faced “widespread hunger, malnutrition and social unrest on an unprecedented scale” because of soaring food prices.
First they help to create the crisis, then they claim to want to relieve the crisis. Weasels!

Sen. Corker
Corker: Dems holding mortgage reform bill ‘hostage’
U.S. Senator Bob Corker criticized Democratic leaders in a speech this morning for holding up the Federal Housing Administration Modernization Act, a bill that has passed the Senate and House and would increase the dollar cap for mortgages insured by the federal agency.
The bill is in conference committee, where differences are being worked out between the Senate and House versions of the bill.
“It’s being held hostage right now,’’ Corker said at the Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association convention at Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.
He said Democrats are holding up passage of the bill to push more aggressive legislation where the government would help finance the bad debt of homeowners in trouble on their mortgages.
Y’know, there is a lot of crap that comes out of D.C. on a regular basis. This nonsense takes the cake.
“I think there’s a more elegant way of dealing with that,’’ Corker said. He also said he opposed the $168 billion economic stimulus plan that is now sending checks of a minimum of $300 to Americans throughout the country.
Well, so am I! And I’m really glad he did oppose such a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money! My first though….IF (and that’s a huge if) we get a check, we should send it right back. Second thought, within seconds mind you, was “Why the hell should we send it back? It’s OUR freakin’ money!” Occasionally, I’m a little slow on the upswing.
He said Americans save less of their paychecks than any other time in U.S. history and it was “ludicrous” for the government to go into debt sending checks to Americans and asking them to spend it.
How many Americans save for the proverbial “rainy day”? I’d venture a guess that it was an extremely small percentage. Why? Well, since each generation, from WWII on, has gotten this absurdity into their heads that no matter what happens, the gubmint is going to take care of them, why should they save. Looking at the so called leadership in this country as an example, those same “leaders” who spend and spend and spend, on endless useless projects and programs, it’s not really all that surprising, now, is it?
Corker also cautioned against more regulation of the mortgage industry as a way to react to the housing crisis.
“There’s no doubt some people were bad actors,’’ he said. “That’s life.” Corker said he would “do everything to keep the pendulum from swinging to the other side,” in favor of too much regulation.
I’m starting to like this guy more and more. Such a VAST improvement over Kohl - The Potted Plant, and Feckless Feingold.

Wright says criticism is attack on black church
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright says criticism surrounding his fiery sermons is an attack on the black church.
Barack Obama’s longtime pastor says he hopes the controversy will have a positive outcome and spark an honest dialogue about race in America. Wright says black church traditions are still “invisible” to many Americans, as they have been throughout the country’s history.
Wright spoke at the National Press Club Monday morning before the Washington press corps and a supportive audience of black church leaders beginning a two-day symposium.
He said the black church tradition is not bombastic or controversial, but different and misunderstood by the “dominant culture” in the United States.
Not ‘bombastic or controversial, but different and misunderstood’? Uh…. I don’t think it’s being misunderstood at all. I think I understand quite well. He hates American, and instead of working to heal divides, he creates more and bigger divides. I don’t know what Bible he’s read, but none I’ve ever seen has ever said “G-d DAMN American”. I was always under the impression that black churches read from the same Bible I do. Granted, there are many translations of the Bible, but to my knowledge, none teaches the hatred that he spews.
If this is what all black churches teach, it’s no wonder that we can’t get past the history, and look to the future, as a nation united. Not a black nation, not a white nation, but a nation.

Saudi says beheadings of Syrians not political
“We do not execute anyone for political reasons,” Al-Sheikh told reporters in the Qatari capital on the sidelines of a conference on justice in the Arab world.
Earlier this month Saudi Arabia executed three Syrians convicted of drug trafficking, triggering protests in Damascus where one human rights activist claimed that 300 Syrians were jailed in Saudi Arabia with 75 on death row.
“Executions carried out in Saudi Arabia are not a matter of opinion. They are decided by Saudi courts which implement sharia (Islamic law) without distinction,” Al-Sheikh said.
This is an ally?
Police: Dad confesses to holding daughter captive 24 years
A man has confessed to imprisoning his daughter for 24 years in windowless cell with a soundproofed door and fathering seven children with her, police said Monday.
The man, now 73, also told investigators that he tossed the body of one of the children in an incinerator when the infant died shortly after birth, said Franz Polzer, head of the Lower Austrian Bureau of Criminal Affairs.
“We are being confronted with an unfathomable crime,” Interior Minister Guenther Platter said.
I don’t suppose the Austrians would condone a little torture, would they? You know, pulling out fingernails, castration with a dull butter knife…..little things like that.
Wright gives sermons in Dallas, thanks church for support
Dr. Wright spoke in passing of “my public crucifixion,” a reference to controversy that has engulfed him – and Mr. Obama – since excerpts of his sermons were posted on the Internet and repeatedly broadcast on television.
But at the Dallas church he mainly preached a gospel message interweaved with social commentary. While he referred to “rampant racism” that many in America refuse to see, he spent more time taking churches to task for not working harder to combat violence against women.
I question any ‘church’ that allows that man to guest pastor. I’ve seen the FULL sermon in question….nothing out of context, ignorance on display. Yep, that’s him.
Syrian president highlights Iran’s friendship with Arab states
In an interview with the Qatari daily Al-Watan which appeared in the paper’s Sunday edition, the Syrian president ruled out the Israeli propaganda campaign that Iran may be an enemy to the Arab states.
Referring to the current regional crises, particularly situation in Iraq, President Assad stressed the need for establishing cordial ties between regional countries.
He said that Iran plays effective role for regional peace and security.
Peace huh? This is the same bunch that has threatened to “wipe Israel off the map”, right? The same one that provides arms and training for terrorist. Oh yeah, real peaceful, that lot.
If Davis can’t win N. Miss., GOP is in trouble
Greg Davis probably doesn’t think of himself as a canary in a coal mine. But in congressional politics, that’s exactly what he represents.
After last week’s special election, the Republican mayor from Southaven finds himself in a runoff election against Democrat Travis Childers for Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District seat.
Fer the love of pete, if you’re in that MS district, do NOT vote for Childers! I’ve done some checking, and he is NOT a good guy. Vote for Greg Davis……PLEASE! I have to listen to news from that area, and I don’t think I could stand listen to that man simpering another minute!
Japanese Woman Gets 15 Years for Killing, Dismembering Husband
Mihashi’s defense lawyers argued she could not be held criminally responsible because of insanity, but presiding judge Masaya Kawamoto rejected the argument citing her attempt to cover up the murder.
“Given that she was trying to cover up the crimes … it is logical to conclude that she should be held criminally responsible,” the judge told the court, according to public broadcaster NHK.
Mihashi bludgeoned her 30-year-old husband with a wine bottle at their apartment in 2006, and sawed the corpse into pieces. His head was found in a suburban park, while his torso was discovered in a garbage bag on a street in downtown Tokyo.
15 years? That’s it??
Kassam lands next to school in Sderot
Meanwhile, Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket strikes on Monday, saying that the barrage was a response to IDF operations in the Gaza Strip which resulted in at least seven Palestinian deaths earlier in the day. The Islamic organization also called on other Palestinian factions to respond in similar fashion to what it termed the “new massacre.”
Earlier Monday, seven Palestinians were killed and six were wounded in an IDF attack on a home in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources reported.
Thankfully, the Israelis have better aim.
High court upholds voter ID law
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights, validating Republican-inspired voter ID laws.
In a splintered 6-3 ruling, the court upheld Indiana’s strict photo ID requirement, which Democrats and civil rights groups said would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots. Its backers said it was needed to deter fraud.
I have never understood how showing a photo ID, proving you are who you say you are, is violating any rights. All the so called explanation all seem to fall short of actually convincing me this would be a bad thing.

Computer Issues…..Again!
I have spent the last hour on the phone with our service provider, trying to find out why I couldn’t get a connection. Well, after all that time, and frustration he says “Oh, the service is out in your area.” Nice. Very nice. Digging through things here, there, everywhere, he decides it’s the whole area and not just me? sigh… So, I’m now connected with the WildBlue. I don’t remember it being this slow when I used it previously…… Oh well, at least I’m connected to something. In about four hours, I’ll be able, hopefully, to switch back to the DSL.
I need more coffee!

Verse of the Day
Philippians 2:5-8
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
