Blackmailers jailed for ludicrous plot against an innocent royal
Two men are beginning five-year jail sentences today after being found guilty of trying to blackmail a member of the Royal Family over claims that he took drugs and performed a gay sex act on his aide.
Ian Strachan, 31, and Sean McGuigan, 41, demanded £50,000 from the royal after secretly filming a member of his staff making lurid claims about his boss and “slagging off” other members of the Royal Household.
Is that all? Less than a hundred grand? Jeez, I would think if you were going to come up with such a scheme, you’d at least go for a million or two.
Cinco De Mayo festivities continue today at two Jackson venues after a concert kicked off the celebration Friday night.
The nightclub Tequila Joe’s, in the Hamilton Hills Shopping Center, and El Chico Mexican Restaurant, at 565 Carriage House, will host concerts.
Tequila Joe’s outdoor jam begins at 2 p.m. and features groups The Amen, Deliah Way, Ten56, Live Bait and the AC/DC tribute band Hells Bells.
When towns in Mexico start having 4th of July celebrations, I’ll be just peachy with this. Until then, KNOCK IT OFF! This ain’t Mexico, and I don’t give a happy crap.
Zimbabwe opposition does not rule out presidential runoff
Zimbabwe’s opposition on Saturday held out the possibility its leader would face President Robert Mugabe in a presidential runoff, but called on the nation’s neighbors to verify the vote count from the first round.
Thokozani Khupe, vice president of the Movement for Democratic Change, said the group still believed a runoff was unnecessary, maintaining opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai won the first round outright on March 29.
If the opposition won, why is there a need for a runoff? I thought the votes had been verified? I’m getting seriously confused.
Ohio attorney general admits to affair with employee
“I did not create an atmosphere in my public and personal life that is consistent with the important mission of the Office of Attorney General,” the Democrat said Friday after the three aides were fired or forced out in the harassment investigation. “I am heartbroken by my failure to recognize the problems being created and by my failure to stop them.”
Dann had punted the probe to a well-respected lieutenant, state Sen. Ben Espy. The investigation uncovered a seedy underside to the office rife with booze, profanity, inappropriate sexual activity, misuse of state vehicles and on-the-job threats involving the Mafia.

California man accused of investment scam targeting Christians
Ervin was named Thursday in a criminal complaint filed in federal court. The same day, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed lawsuits against Ervin and his company, Safevest LLC, and obtained federal orders freezing their assets.
According to the criminal complaint, Ervin used Safevest to persuade victims to invest in a fake commodity futures trading program. Investors were told Safevest would use no more than 13 percent of their deposit in hundreds of commodity trades a day on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, with a guarantee of up to 1 percent in returns each day.
Investors could check their returns on a password-protected Web site that was run exclusively by Ervin. The program attracted about 550 investors, officials said.
It sounds a bit like a “pyramid” scheme. Word of advice: Never, EVER, give money to someone you don’t know, haven’t thoroughly investigated, and isn’t known for his/her forthrightness.
Witness to testify she had a threesome with R. Kelly, victim
As part of the case, prosecutors claim to have identified the girl in the videotape. This alleged victim is now in her 20s. Kelly’s lawyers plan to argue — and the alleged victim will reportedly testify — that she is not the girl in the tape.
But the prosecution’s new witness could undermine that defense, since she will identify the girl, sources with knowledge of the matter told the Chicago Sun-Times. In addition, the witness is expected to say the girl was underage at the time of their encounter.
“She was involved in a threesome with [the girl] and R. Kelly,” one source said.
I would have thought that slime ball would be in jail by now.
Bush seeks $200m in funding for PA
As international donors met in London to provide aid to the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority, US President George W. Bush included $200 million in funding for the PA as part of a supplemental budget request sent to Congress Friday.
Included in Bush’s request for money for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, he asked for $50 million to “train, equip, and garrison Palestinian Authority Security Forces,” as well as another $150 million for “urgent budget support” for the PA as part of America’s general economic assistance.
Such funds would come on top of some $100 million already requested for the PA under the 2009 budget submitted in January, which is meant to strengthen government reforms, improve health and education and spur economic growth among other efforts. In that budget, Israel is due to receive $2.55 billion in military assistance.

Isn’t he the guy who said “if you’re not with us, you’re against us”? Or something to that effect? Isn’t aiding and abetting terrorists one of those “against us” thing?
