I think it is celebrated so heavily here because it is an excuse for people to get drunk. Drinking is afterall the real American Pasttime. Plus if my history serves me well it was the day of a battle that saw the French get their ass kicked…I always thought that was a cause of celebration

I’m sure they do celebrate the Fourth, though–where would they be without the U.S. as a safety valve for their unskilled masses?

Yeah, kicking the French’s hind end would be a cause for celebration, but it wasn’t us that kick ‘em…and it wasn’t within our borders.
