Email Virus Alert

You should be alert during the next several weeks. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled ‘POSTCARD,’regardless of who sent it to you.
It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which ‘burns’ the whole hard disc (C drive) of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called’ POSTCARD,’ even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it.! This includes all cards, too. Shut down your computer immediately.
This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where your vital information is kept.
COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.
REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

If you haven’t opened it, just what good is shutting down going to do, I am pretty suspect of this message itself…
Shut down?? Just delete it, and if your virus definitions are up to date, no worries, but whoever sent this to you really has no idea or is intent on scaring you…

Granted, the email was a bit of an overreaction. But hey, some people will open anything, so I thought I might as well share the info. Me? I delete anything that says ecard on it, of any kind.
did you read the whole snopes thing?? it says this virus has been around for years and cnn hasnt classified it as anything.. also will not wipe your harddrive … sheesh mom.. talk about shoddy reporting.. lol..

Blow it outcher wazoo. Yes, I read the whole thing. And yes, I realized after I posted that some of the email was inaccurate, but that doesn’t mean that folks shouldn’t be aware that opening such things can be a larger pain in the ass than other emails. Better to be double cautious than not cautious at all. (I could insert a snooty remark here, but I’ll behave. heh)
