Freedom of Speech For Me, But NOT For Thee
News Agency: Iran Shuts Down Newspaper Critical of Ahmadinejad
Authorities have shut down a Tehran newspaper ,the official IRNA news agency reported Sunday, after the paper published a story critical of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s stance on Israel.
The Press Supervisory Board, which is controlled by hard-liners, banned Tehran Today on Saturday after the paper’s editor was summoned to court for publishing material deemed as insulting Ahmadinejad, IRNA said.
The news agency did not provide more details. But the announcement comes after the paper published a story Saturday that said Ahmadinejad’s comments on Israel “seems to have led to a different result — more pressure on Iran and more support to Israel.”
Gee, I thought the Iranian people had such freedoms? Yes, I AM being sarcastic. Because according to this story Fox is referencing:
The daily subject to a ban admitted in a statement that it overstepped limits of freedom of expression.
The statement said that the daily has failed to observe moderate approach in dealing with the country’s political affairs.
The Press Supervisory Board has banned ‘Tehran Emrouz’ newspaper for and revoked its license for lack of legal conditions.
Tehran’s Public Prosecutor Office has summoned the banned daily’s director for “publishing articles and images insulting to president”.
How is it possible to overstep freedom of expression? Oh, yeah…Iran doesn’t really have freedom of speech. Their freedom consists of only saying good things about the evil folks in charge. And this is what they call freedom.
We, in this country, honestly have NO idea how good we have it! The sufferers of BDS can say anything they damn well please, whether on the idjit box, in the fish wrap, or around the internet. They have freedoms that others can only dream about, but not verbalize. The far left AND far right can demonize our military, yet have to consequences. And yet, there are those who want to stop free speech for others. Sounds kind of like the “handlers” in Iran, doesn’t it.
This poor guy has apologized. For what? Speaking the truth. Odds are, he’ll end up rotting in some Iranian jail, or swinging from the gallows for some trumped up charge. Pray for him, and all those like him who would dare to speak up against tyranny.
