An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings
Race in the Race
Who is bringing up race in this, umm….race? Well, y’know, I’ve seen so many people trying to defend their reasons for not voting for B. Hussein that has nothing to do with the color of his skin, being called ‘racist’. Any thinking person, who bothers to do any digging at all, will realize color is NOT the problem. Yet, here we have a Slimes columnist bringing up Obama’s bringing it up.
The question isn’t whether race will be an issue in the general election campaign between Barack Obama and John McCain. Race is already an issue, even if it is largely confined to the shadow world of implication and coded language. Obama is now dragging the race issue into the sunlight — a move that has to be considered both risky and inevitable.
I’ll be the first to admit that even if B. was the most conservative Christian on the planet, there would be a few folks who wouldn’t vote for the guy. The majority of rational people, though, have bigger issues with the him. So, now B., himself, is going to whine “racist”?
I say inevitable because the fact of Obama’s race isn’t something that voters could possibly miss, whatever they think about it. The riskiness of dealing openly with race is every bit as obvious as Obama’s skin color: A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that three of every 10 Americans acknowledge having “at least some feelings of racial prejudice.”
Well, obviously, a voter is aware of the shade of a person’s skin. If you were blind, you’d know, because, guess what! Y’all keep bringing it up! I’ve no doubt 3 of ever 10 Americans have some racial prejudice. Wanna bet 2 of those 3 vote Democrat?
On Friday, speaking at a fundraiser in Jacksonville, Obama made what can only be described as a preemptive strike. “It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy,” he said. “We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced, and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’ ” He went on to predict that Republicans would say that “he’s got a feisty wife” as a way of attacking Michelle Obama. “We know the strategy because they’ve already shown their cards,” he said. “Ultimately, I think the American people recognize that old stuff hasn’t moved us forward. That old stuff just divides us.”
Let’s see here, almost 7 years of economic prosperity is considered bad? How ’bout that foreign policy? Well, unlike Sen. Hussein, I don’t give a flying flip if the EU likes us. I don’t give a flying flip if Muslims like us. And I wonder how many times we’ve been attacked on our soil by “extremists”? Well, except for down there on that border, and both parties suck on that issue. And by the way, I AM afraid….of seeing the appeaser in the Oval Office!
The Republican Party has a problematic history on race, beginning with Nixon’s “Southern strategy.” The era when the likes of the late Lee Atwater could overtly use race as a wedge issue is long gone. Today, any appeal to latent racial prejudice would have to be made more subtly — the suggestion that there’s something of the “other” about Obama, that he might not share traditional American values, that there’s some question about his love of country. Given the steadfast patriotism that African Americans have displayed since the nation’s founding, none of this makes historical sense. But it’s more about the vibe than the reality, and the fact is that voters are attuned not just to what a presidential candidate says but also to how the candidate makes them feel.
Uh….I’d like to take them to task on this one. They might want to read up on the “history” of the Republican Party. They also might like to take a serious gander at the history of the KKK…..these weren’t Republicans y’know!
Since Obama has given his opponents little ammunition, they have focused on those who are close to him, beginning with his former pastor. Now some critics have turned to Obama’s “feisty” wife, whose image as a tall, strong, confident black woman can perhaps be made to seem threatening to some people.

“Little ammunition”? He’s gotta be kidding, right? For the record, I don’t find Michelle Obama threatening at all. I don’t know of anyone who does. I find her intelligent, but not First Lady material. Again, her color has absolutely nothing to do with it! It has a great deal to do with that whole “not proud of being an American” business. Until that, I had no problem with the woman at all.
Well, I suppose we’re just going to have to deal with being called “racist”, even though the attack is baseless. What I find amazing is how many people are going to vote for the man just because he’s black. Now, THAT is racist!

I don’t think Michelle Obamarama is threatening, I think she’s bowlegged and butt ugly… And that’s not because she’s black, it’s because she’s bowlegged and butt ugly…
Sux huh? Since I’m a vile racist and all…
I don’t think Michelle is intelligent, otherwise she wouldn’t speak the way she did, she wouldn’t stay in that church for 20 years, not a good mom either for letting her girls to hear that hatred, and so on.
I am sick of Obama playing the victim card, he is supposed to show how great a leader he is, not how great a chicken he is.

Yer killin’ me here!
@cristina:
Nuts, I should have said educated. Messed that up, didn’t I! LOL I’m beginning to think that well educated folks aren’t intelligent at all!
