News From Fox 17 On Miss Joy

Evidently, Fox 17 in Nashville doesn’t like folks downloading their video and putting it on YouTube, so you’ll have to go here to see it of the news coverage for the Joy Ford story and her battle with MDHA’s use of ‘eminent domain”.

The Tennessean also had a story.

Music Row owner fights eminent domain

A Music Row property owner has asked a Nashville court to stop an attempt by Metro government to seize her property, but the city agency and the development firm behind the effort said they have no intention of changing course.

Lawyers for Joy Ford, owner of an independent music business, asked the Circuit Court of Davidson County on Monday to throw out the city’s petition to use the power of eminent domain to seize her property at 23 Music Circle E.

The city’s request is unnecessary and violates state and federal laws on taking private land for redevelopment, Ford’s attorneys said.

They also said the city made critical errors when it determined that Ford’s property is blighted.

“Nashville wants to take this small, unique, independent business to give it to private developers to put up another office building on Music Row,” Scott Bullock, one of Ford’s lead attorneys, said at a news conference announcing the filing. “We’re here to put a stop to abuse of eminent domain.”

The City Paper also has an article:

Music Circle property owner digs in for eminent domain fight

“I am not interested in selling my property at any price,” Ford said in a statement released by her legal representation. “This isn’t about money for me. This is about principle. I just want to hold on to a business that has meant so much to my family and a lot of other folks in country music. I should have the right to do that in the United States of America.”

In the meantime, Metro Councilman Michael Craddock said a group of “half the Metro Council members” was ready to support a bill that could intercede on Ford’s behalf if necessary.

Craddock did not explain the details of the bill, but said a draft was completed and ready to be filed.

“It’s been prepared,” Craddock said of the bill. “I’m so concerned about what MDHA is doing that I’m looking for any alternative possible to stop them. The bill has been drawn. It has been prepared. I’m waiting for the outcome of this and whether or not MDHA will come to their senses.”

I have to say, some of the comments left for this article are absolutely mind boggling!

If we, as citizens of the greatest nation on earth, don’t stand with Miss Joy, and the people fighting against such abuse, we will no longer be a great nation, but a nation of serfs. Personally, I will not stand idly by while government abuse their power. I will stand with Miss Joy.
