Savannah man arrested after employee killed

The owner of a Savannah furniture store was arrested Tuesday morning after one of his employees was shot and killed outside the store.

Savannah police said Charles Garrard, 27, was fatally shot while sitting on the passenger side of a red Nissan truck owned by Charles K. Qualls, 52.

Police had not charged Qualls on Tuesday, but an investigator said police think Qualls shot Garrard after an argument. Police said Qualls was being held in jail in Savannah on Tuesday and that he may be formally charged with the shooting today.

A commenter on the first article said this guy shot the man over $80. I drive by this place frequently, and always thought it was a Goodwill type store. It’s hard to believe that something like this could happen in little Savannah, TN, but I guess it can happen anywhere.

Rice: ‘No standoff’ with N.K. minister

The North Korea ministerial session was held on the sidelines of the summit and was the first at such a high level. Previously, six-party talks have taken place at a senior working level. Wednesday’s meeting was informal, because it occurred outside its the usual venue, Beijing.

Miss Rice said that most of the discussion, which lasted about 80 minutes, focused on verifying Pyongyang’s recently submitted declaration of its plutonium-related activities as part of its nuclear programs.

Of course, the North Koreans wouldn’t lie, would they? (insert sarcasm here)

Congress Considers Second Economic Stimulus Package

Congress is considering a second economic stimulus package that could include $15 billion in infrastructure spending, a senior member of the House told Reuters on Tuesday.

Rep. James Oberstar, a Minnesota Democrat who chairs the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said a stimulus package could include “accelerating” payouts of $9.5 billion from the federal trust fund assigned to road construction and maintenance.

“You can have 700,000 people working in three months. We should have done it this spring,” Oberstar told Reuters in an interview.

Is he freakin’ insane??? They can’t figure out what stimulates the economy is allowing people and businesses to keep more of their own money? Are they ALL morons in D.C.?

Leader Jeffs, 5 others indicted in FLDS polygamist case

Five members of a West Texas polygamist sect, including leader Warren Jeffs, were indicted Tuesday in Schleicher County on charges of sexual assault of a child. A sixth member was indicted on charges of failing to report child abuse.

The indictments were handed up more than three months after Texas law enforcement raided the group’s ranch near Eldorado and began investigating whether underage girls were being forced to have sex with adult men.

“There will be an aggressive effort to apprehend them,” Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said of the indicted sect members about an hour after grand jurors left.

Well, good luck with that one!

Jindal Says He’s Not Interested in No. 2 Spot With McCain

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he does not want to be considered as vice president on the GOP ticket, making him among a growing number of those pulling themselves out of the race.

” I look forward to continuing to be governor of Louisiana. This is a once in a lifetime chance to improve our state. We’ve cut six taxes but we’ve got a lot more work to do right here in Louisiana,” Jindal told “FOX & Friends” on Wednesday.

Well, dang! But y’know, I think he made the right decision. He’s got a LOT of work to do cleaning up things in LA, so perhaps next time? :)

Demos vow to erase state share of levee cost

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday rejected a proposal from Gov. Bobby Jindal to use some of Louisiana’s royalties from offshore oil and gas revenue to pay the state’s $1.8 billion share of future federal levee improvements.

Speaking at a news conference on the banks of the Mississippi River in New Orleans, Pelosi, D-Calif., said that rather than tapping money earmarked for restoring the state’s fragile coast, she would seek to “find another way” to eliminate the expensive levee burden entirely. The discussion capped a four-day Gulf Coast tour by House Democrats.

It’s official. That B*TCH has GOT to go! It’s so obvious she has NO idea what she is doing, or how to do it! The offer would have saved the American taxpayers money. But noooooooooooooo….Queen Moonbat can’t have that! (sorry for the language) How stupid do you have to be to be a so called Democrat leader, anyway?

Obama: I’m here to reaffirm special US-Israel relationship

After a series of meetings with Israeli officials and a visit to Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, US presidential contender Senator Barack Obama travelled 30-minutes from Jerusalem to the West Bank town of Ramallah on Wednesday afternoon where he assured Palestinian leaders he’d get involved in the Mideast conflict quickly, a top Palestinian official said.

In his meeting with Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, Obama confirmed “that he will be a constructive partner in the peace process” and would not “waste a minute” if elected, Chief Palestinian negotiator Saed Erekat said.

What he’s already wasting is taxpayer money, sucking up to enemies of peace.

Iraqi president rejects provincial elections law

“The president, who is guided by the principle of consensus between the three factions (in parliament), cannot accept this law, which infringes that principle … and violates the constitution,” the statement said.

The elections will provide early clues on how Iraq’s Shi’ite, Sunni and Kurdish factions and other minority groups will fare in parliamentary elections, scheduled for 2009 — polls that will determine if Maliki himself will remain power.

Analysts say the polls will also be the battleground for a fierce power struggle among sectarian and ethnic parties that could redraw the country’s political map.

Why not let the Kurds run their own section? Why is everyone so against the thought of a separation? Perhaps I just don’t understand all the political nonsense that goes along with this rejection. Perhaps because the Kurds are doing quite well, while the rest of the country is in chaos, politically?

Gang that plotted ‘UK 9/11′ lose appeal

Five men jailed for life for plotting a series of bomb attacks to rival the 9/11 New York atrocities lost challenges against their convictions today.

Omar Khyam, Waheed Mahmood and Jawad Akbar, from Crawley, West Sussex, Anthony Garcia, of Barkingside, east London, and Salahuddin Amin, of Luton, Bedfordshire, were all found guilty of conspiracy to cause explosions likely to endanger life after a lengthy trial at the Old Bailey last year.

At the Court of Appeal in London today, three judges rejected their bids to overturn their convictions.

Thankfully, there does to be a bit of sanity left in the UK. With all the PC nonsense, and appeasement going on, I am starting to question whether there was any.

Shin Bet Chief Diskin Predicted Tuesday Attack, Slams Gov’t

Three hours before another Jerusalem Municipality worker plowed his bulldozer through traffic on Jerusalem’s King David Street Tuesday injuring 24 people, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin told lawmakers at a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that a repeat of the deadly July 2 bulldozer terrorist attack was likely.

The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, received indications that Jerusalem Arabs were planning to carry out attacks mimicking the murderous bulldozer rampage of three weeks ago, as well as the Mercaz HaRav shooting massacre of yeshiva students in March.

The security chief also criticized the ineffectiveness of current government policies, which he believes are hampering Israel’s armed forces in combating terror. Diskin urged the Israeli government to demolish the homes of all three of the eastern Jerusalem Arab terrorists, to preserve Israel’s deterrent capability, and accused local and State governments of dragging their feet on the approval of the house demolitions.

I’m curious. Does the demolition of a terrorist attackers family’s home really have an effect? Or is it just a show of strength? They really should have expected “copy cats”.
