An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings
And So It Begins!
With another tragic shooting in a public place, this time, a church, the left is already making noise to limit the ownership of guns:
Now is the Time for Comprehensive Gun Control
The recent Supreme Court ruling on the second amendment by the Bush and Reagan stacked court insures that our nation’s cities can continue to live in perpetual fear of similar incidents happening around the nation as what happened in Knoxville on Sunday. Cities are already scrambling to deal with the chilling new reality handed down by the Supreme Court this summer, which seems to mean that it is open season for every crazy person who can get their hands on a gun in our nation’s urban centers.
There is a solution though, and it is up to Congress to exercise the political will to make a decision to pass laws which place strict limits on gun ownership and to hold gun sellers strictly accountable for who they sell their products to. We have a responsibility to protect our children and our nation’s citizens have a right to live free of the fear of being visited with violence as they go about their daily lives of working, shopping and worshiping as they choose. As a candidate for federal office I believe that federal government has the responsibility to place strict limits on gun ownership in this country. Gun rights advocates argue that guns make us safe, but I believe that a heavily armed nation is a dangerous place to live. It is time to make our country safe for our children. Now is the time for comprehensive gun control for a safer America.
Horn swaggle! If someone in that church had been carrying a weapon, perhaps the number shot would be far less. Not to mention saving time. money and trouble of having a trial.
This was obviously a VERY disturbed individual. It’s not the fault of the shotgun, this happened because of the one using the weapon. The left can make any excuse for controlling people, and their destroying their rights as individuals, but it all comes down to one thing: Do you really want NOT to have the ability to defend yourself against lunatics? Purveyors of hatred? THUGS?
Honestly, I hope if something like this should ever happen in my church, that my pastor, or one of the members of the congregation is carrying! (I don’t carry a purse to church, but maybe I’ll start now.)

We MUST keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill…
Now, WHO determines he that IS mentally ill??
Therein lies the problem…
@TexasFred:
Damn good question.
If you base mental illness on political stands, I can name a whole bunch of folks.
On the serious side, it seems this guy was in serious need of help, yet didn’t get it. Can you force people to get help?
They are trying to use a hate crime law. What? Do they think people who shoot people LIKE the person, or people, that is shot?
If they shoot people they have affection for, the punishment should be more lenient (because we all know hate crimes are the worst possible crimes!) If mental illness or mental inadequacy is to be a factor in denying gun ownership, the majority of members of Congress will have to rely on someone else for protection.
Honestly, a little damn common sense could go a long way if these jackasses could acquire any! How do they expect people that would carry out this type of attack, to be counted on to obey their little laws?
@Sam Pierce:
I tend to put things on a personal level…..I can’t imagine whacking anyone I love….or even like. And hatred is one of those things I just don’t let invade my life. So, I don’t get it.
