Turning Tragedy Into Politics

Shooting raises question: It is safe to be a liberal

National, and even international, coverage of the shootings at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church turned late this week into a discussion into whether it’s safe in America to be a liberal.

“One of the biggest contemporary ironies is that being liberal in the United States of America, home of history’s greatest democracy, has become dangerous. That danger is particularly acute for religious liberals, as the recent tragedy in Knoxville demonstrated,” Bill Maxwell wrote in the St. Petersburg Times.

I cannot begin to express my sorrow for those who were murdered by this lunatic.

That being said, I cannot express my disgust for such blatant stupidity! Contrary to what the MSM would have you believe, REAL conservative Christians would NEVER consider harming another human being, no matter what his, or her political stand, other than self defense. Sorry, this is just NOT something we do.

Ian Williams, writing in The Guardian in London, said “Jim Adkisson, a Tennessee aficionado of conservative talkshows, took their hosts’ invective all too literally and shot up a ‘liberal’ Unitarian Universalist congregation, killing two and wounding six congregants watching a children’s musical. Caught up in a world of conservative talk radio, he reportedly expected to be able to carry on shooting unimpeded by the spineless, gay-loving pacifists, and was surprised when they tackled him and brought him down.”

Jim Adkisson was obviously a very disturbed individual! Conservative talk radio could no more make him shoot someone than they could make him put his shoes on the wrong feet. Reality snap people! BLAME the shooter! Not the gun. Not what he listened to on the radio. HIM!

The Miami Herald’s Leonard Pitts: “No, conservatives did not cause this bloodbath. Jim Adkisson allegedly did. But in telling him ‘liberals’ were the source of his every disaffection and woe, conservatives certainly validated the hatred and madness that drove him.

Huh? What is this moron talking about? Conservatives are trying to stop the movement towards all out socialism. I’ve never once heard anyone on the radio tell me that liberals were the “source” of all my woes. Actually, I don’t have any “woes”. I have Someone who shares any personal burdens I might have.

“It would be a fitting tribute to those who were lost in Knoxville if this tragedy gave the authors of the ongoing morality play cause for pause — and reflection. Or is accountability yet another lost conservative value?”

No you twit! It’s the liberals who have decided than no one is responsible for their own actions. Kind of like YOU blaming talk radio.

Question to Bloggers

2 August 2008, 9:54 am. 2 Comments. Filed under Blog Stuff.

I tend to peruse the spam I get on a regular basis.  Well, I try to at any rate.  I’ve found comments from regular readers hidden in that mess, so, I check.

This morning, I found a link back from one of those annoy bot thingys, attributing MY post to Daily Kos.  Now, excuse me, if you are going to set up one of those stupid bot info gathering thingamajigs, don’t you think it would be wiser to have it attribute the post to the origin?  Daily Kos?  ME?  I don’t bloody well think so!

Does anyone else get this kind of crap?

More Disappointment in Bush

2 August 2008, 9:41 am. Comments Off. Filed under Dhimmicrats, Economy, Feckless Weasels, Taxes.

A snippet from Bush’s weekly radio address:

It appears that the leaders of the Democratically-controlled Congress will let the entire summer pass without voting on any of these vital steps to help reduce pressure on gas prices. This failure to act is unacceptable to me and unacceptable to the American people. So when they return from their summer break, Democratic leaders should show that they’ve heard the frustration of the American people by allowing a vote on offshore exploration. If Congress does not act, they will owe families across America an explanation for why they’re ignoring their concerns.

Instead of calling them back into session, which he could do, to address a VERY serious problem, he hopes they’ll DO SOMETHING when they get back from their tanning session. Rather than back the Republicans who staged a new “Boston Tea Party” yesterday, he kowtows.

My disgust with this administration grows by leaps and bounds.

IOC strips gold from 2000 US relay team

The International Olympic Committee stripped gold medals Saturday from the U.S. men’s 1,600-meter relay team that competed at the 2000 Olympics in the aftermath of Antonio Pettigrew’s admission that he was doping at the time.

The IOC executive board disqualified the entire team, the fourth gold and sixth overall medal stripped from that U.S. track contingent in the past eight months for doping.

The push to be THE best, instead of doing YOUR best has pretty much ruined sports.

U.S. Asked U.N. About Exchange Rate Issues in Burma Year Before Latest Scandal

More than a year before the United Nations discovered “very serious losses” of at least $10 million on foreign exchange transactions involving relief money sent to cyclone-battered Burma, U.S. diplomats raised similar concerns about spending in that country by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The concerns were not directly addressed. Neither was a U.S. request for copies of UNDP audits of the expenditures — even as UNDP revealed that its spending in Burma, which the country’s military regime renamed Myanmar, had soared spectacularly, totaling more than $74 million between 2002 and 2006.

“Concerns were not directly addressed”. Ooooo….bigger shocker. The idea that the Useless Numnuts would address any REAL issues is absurd! They are a waste of air, and money!

Pakistani Taliban denies Zawahri dead or hurt

“Zawahri has been killed by them several times. But once again this claim is wrong. This is baseless,” Maulvi Omar told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location.

CBS News based its report on a copy of an intercepted letter purportedly written by the leader of Pakistani Taliban, Baitullah Mehsud requesting a doctor to treat the wounded Zawahri. The letter was written on Tuesday, a day after a U.S. missile strike killed an al Qaeda bomb expert in Pakistan’s South Waziristan.

Well, shoot, if I had known that the info had come from CBS, I wouldn’t have given it a bit of credence, until there was information from several CREDIBLE sources.

Oil exploration may be on horizon for Georgia

With the Senate at an impasse over oil drilling, five Democrats and five Republicans led by Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) stepped forward Friday to offer a compromise for solving the nation’s energy problems.

Their proposal would let Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia permit drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf off their coastlines and open up parts of the Gulf of Mexico. It also would promote conservation and help pay for the transition to alternative fuels and more efficient technologies.

Only 10 out of 100 are making an effort to give their BOSSES some relief. You know, that’s pretty damn pathetic.

ICE detains 60-year-old Palestinian cardiac patient without cause

An investigation has begun into the detention by Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) authorities of Ziyad Busaileh, a 60-year-old Palestinian immigrant residing in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Busaileh was arrested July 22 as he arrived home from a doctor’s visit; he is a diabetic and cardiac patient of Carolina Caridiology Consultants, P.A.

“Upon arrest, Busaileh was not allowed to retrieve his eye glasses or medications (he is recovering from a recent surgery), was denied the right to make a phone call, strip searched at the detention center and subjected to a rigorous interrogation by ICE authorities,” said Khalilah Sabra, North Carolina director of the Muslim American Society Freedom (MASF).

Considering the source, I question its validity. However, it should be investigated very quickly by the powers that be.

S. Asian leaders call for joint efforts to combat terrorism

The strongest call for collective efforts to fight terrorism was made by Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who is attending the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit for the first time.

He started his speech by condemning the recent attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul and other terrorist acts in Afghanistan and India.

“It is time that we realize that the pursuit of narrow national interests and pursuit of militant terrorism cannot serve any long-term purpose,” Karzai said.

After DECADES of attacks, they are just now noticing there’s a real danger? Isn’t that what Bush tried to do nearly 7 years ago?

Iran fails to respond by int’l deadline

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said EU nations and diplomats were not too concerned about Teheran’s adherence to the exact deadline – but were keen for Iran to come back with a concrete reply that could form the basis of further negotiations.

Oh, now there’s a shocker. Iran thumbing it’s nose at the “international community”. Are they really “keen” for a response? I can give ‘em one. “Dear Sirs: ” In Farsi, of course.

Enemies have targeted dignity of Iranians

Enemies of Iran have targeted the nation’s dignity and sovereignty under the pretext of their peaceful nuclear activities, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday.

Addressing a group of people in a district in southern Tehran, he said, “No nation can survive without independence.”

Well, there ya go. There’s your answer!

IRI’s wrestler quits fight against Zionist rival

Favorite Iranian wrestler Babak Qorbani quit a pre-final game against a representative from the Zionist regime, in a move of solidarity with the Palestinian nation which cost him the gold medal.

In the second day of the international under-17 Greco-Roman games in Turkey, Babak Qorbani whom many tipped as gold favorite faced a wrestler from Zionist regime after defeating his powerful Hungarian opponent to reach semis.

Pfft! Probably scared he was gonna get his ass kicked, so opts out under the banner of “the cause”! (snort…chortle)

Lawsuit over potato chip ingredient settled

Frito-Lay and two other potato chip companies have agreed to reduce the levels of a cancer-causing chemical in their products in a settlement of a state lawsuit, Attorney General Jerry Brown said Friday.

The court-approved settlement comes three years after Brown’s predecessor, Bill Lockyer, sued fast-food chains and potato chip companies, saying they had failed to warn California consumers about the dangers of acrylamide.

Did the water company warn them they use it in filtering drinking water? Hmmm? Big company=deep pockets. Get rich quick scheme.

Sen. gets back funeral directors license

State Sen. Ophelia Ford of Memphis has won reinstatement of her state funeral directors license. She passed a standard 50-question licensing exam on Tennessee laws, rules and regulations, the state Board of Funeral Directors & Embalmers told The Commercial Appeal on Friday. Ford had lost her license last year after she failed to meet the deadline for her standard renewal application. Ford argued that she should be given more leeway for missing a renewal deadline because she had been seriously ill. Ford missed much of the last two legislative sessions with what she described as a severe case of anemia and a bleeding ulcer.

She can come up with all the excuses on the books, but the impression I get? That woman is a flake! Pure and simple. Did they give her a psychological exam along with that test?

Human trafficking deterrence rapped

The Justice Department gave disparate amounts of money to groups fighting human trafficking, with one group receiving almost four times as much as another group that planned to do the same amount of work, according to an internal audit released Friday.

The department couldn’t explain the discrepancies, according to a report from the Office of Inspector General Glenn A. Fine.

The report described a chaotic system in which poorly monitored programs made it difficult to identify, help and track victims of human trafficking.

Holy crap! You mean the gubmint is incompetent! I’m aghast! (insert massive sarcasm here)

Verse of the Day

2 August 2008, 8:00 am. Comments Off. Filed under Faith.

2 Peter 1:2-8

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
