Iran Test Fires ‘New Weapon’ for Use at Sea

Iran has tested a new weapon for use at sea, the chief of the country’s elite Revolutionary Guards was quoted Monday as saying by the official IRNA news agency.

The commander, Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, claimed the new marine weapon is “unique in the world” and has a range of 300 kilometers (186 miles).

The report provided no further details and didn’t say when or where the weapon was tested, but it quoted Jafari as saying that there is “no similar weapon in the service of armies in the world.”

The alleged new weapon’s range indicated it may be some type of torpedo.

Sometimes, it’s really hard to take these people seriously. Sadly, I have a gut feeling that Iran will not take to the back burner, and will, for all intends and purposes, be the catalyst of an all out World War.

GOP: Lift drilling ban or risk shutdown

The showdown on Capitol Hill over expanding offshore drilling could lead to a threatened government shutdown when Congress returns from its five-week summer break in early September.

Some Republicans say they are prepared to vote against a resolution to fund the federal government for the 2009 fiscal year unless Democrats agree to lift an offshore drilling moratorium. If the budget resolution fails, many agencies and departments would be denied money to operate and would be forced to close.

Shutting down the federal gubmint might not be such a bad thing. Since Congress has done NOTHING of merit since Pelosi’s takeover, it can continue to do just that, just not on the taxpayer’s dime! It might be nice to prove to D.C. life WILL continue without them.

Tennessee Sen. Kurita faces tough Democratic challenge for seat

Attorney Tim Barnes is trying to unseat the 12-year incumbent, hoping to benefit from fallout Kurita has received for crossing party lines.

But Kurita remains confident that her votes represented the best interests of her constituents.

“I support the issues that are important to the people in my district,” said the Clarksville Democrat. “I always have and I always will.”

Kurita, 60, was first elected in 1996 to the 22nd Senate District seat that represents Cheatham, Houston and Montgomery counties. There is no Republican running this year.

Well, Heaven forbid, she should actually “cross party lines” and vote the way her constituents would want. Pfft! There seems to be a handful of people who have taken it upon themselves to decide what people want, even if it’s the complete opposite of reality. When crossing those lines, you’ve got to ask….did it help, or hurt, the people.

Arabs and Leftists Preparing To Claim Control of Gaza Coast

Arab Americans and supporters in Greece have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund two boats that are set to sail to Gaza in a carefully prepared publicity stunt under the slogan “Free Gaza.” The boats have been provided with a sophisticated satellite link that will have a live hookup for journalists on board.

Israel stated it still retains sovereignty over the air and territorial waters after it withdrew soldiers from the Gaza region three summers ago, but Arabs and left-wing groups dispute the claim. They are gearing up for worldwide publicity for the boats to arrive on the Gaza coast. Israel has not yet decided how to react to the campaign, and the people who will be on board are hoping for a confrontation or arrest in order to win more media sympathy.

How about little holes in the bottom of their boats? Glub glub glub. Stunt over. Honestly, I think the Pallies need to return Gaza to the Israelis. At least then, it would be used for something other than breeding hatred and murderers.

Study: Restaurant kids’ meals loaded with calories

A new report says parents looking for healthy meal choices for their children are likely to find slim pickings on the menus of the nation’s top restaurant chains.

Nearly every possible combination of the children’s meals at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Sonic, Jack in the Box, and Chick-fil-A are too high in calories, the report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest said.

Two things here. One, fast foot restaurants have been around for a LONG time. Well, within my lifetime, and that’s quite a while. Kids are not fatter these days because of the food, they’re fatter because they are stuck in a chair, either in school, or in front the idjit box, or a gaming console. Ergo, they aren’t able to burn up the calories. Second, who chooses to take their kid to a fast food restaurant? The parent, right? Well, there ya go! You have just two reasons kids are fatter these days than they were 20 years ago. Bring back recess, and turn off the idjit box! All the do gooders who have gone out of their way to “keep the children safe” have had a hand in turning our kids into big blobs of blubber. On the other hand, you’ve got some parents so into the micro food crap, they’re starving their kids out of ignorance.

DNA from victims led to anthrax suspect

A government scientist tells The Associated Press that DNA from the bodies of people killed in the anthrax attacks helped lead investigators to the suspect.

He said Sunday that investigators started with DNA from some of those victims. Investigators matched specific DNA patterns to anthrax cultures that the suspect, Army scientist Bruce Ivins, was responsible for in the lab.

Was he the only one that worked with those cultures? Just wondering.

Democratic Senators Not Ready to Say U.S. Is Winning the War

Democratic Sens. Mary Landrieu (La.) and Blanche Lincoln (Ark.) were not ready to say whether the United States is winning the war in Iraq when asked by CNSNews.com on Friday, nor did they say whether the United States is losing the war. Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson (Ga.), however, said America is winning and meeting its goals.

In July, five U.S. soldiers died from combat-related injuries, less than the six who died from non-combat-related incidents, making July the month with the fewest number of combat deaths for any month since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March 2003.

The Dhimmicrats are so invested in the U.S. losing, I think the majority of them would rather swallow their tongues that to admit they are wrong.

After fatal shootings, congregants reclaim church’s sacredness

“This morning,” said Brian Griffin, the church’s education director, “we reclaim the sacredness of our space.”

Exactly seven days earlier, police allege, Jim David Adkisson, 58, entered the church’s 10 a.m. service just as the teens were putting on a performance of “Annie Jr.” and shot eight people with a shotgun, killing TVUUC member Greg McKendry and Westside Unitarian Universalist Fellowship member Linda Kraeger and wounding six others. A seventh woman was injured in the resulting chaos.

This was a tragedy. But I have to take issue with the ’sacredness’ of a so called church that has turned it’s back on God’s word.

Tenacity of Taliban frustrates U.S. efforts

The Taliban are demonstrating a resilience and ferocity that is sowing alarm here, in Washington and in other NATO capitals, and engendering a fresh round of soul-searching over how a relatively ragtag insurgency has managed to keep the world’s most powerful armies at bay.

Six years after being driven from power, the Taliban have once again penetrated Afghanistan to the point that security officials talk of a noose tightening around the capital, Kabul, leaving the Afghan people more despairing than at any time since 2001.

The mounting toll inflicted by the insurgents, including nine American soldiers killed in a single attack last month, has turned Afghanistan into a battlefield more deadly than Iraq and refocused the attention of America’s military commanders and its presidential contenders on the Afghan war.

Doesn’t the military have any more bunker busters just laying around the storage shed? Might go a long way to discouraging the Taliban, and their followers.

With Primary Over, Obama Urges Full Florida, Michigan Vote

It comes too late for Senator Clinton, but Senator Obama is officially requesting that the delegations from Florida and Michigan be seated in full at the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month. Mr. Obama wrote a letter to the convention’s credentials committee urging a full vote for the two states, whose disputed primaries in January sparked a prolonged battle between Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton.

A DNC panel awarded each state half a vote after an acrimonious public hearing in early June, dashing the former first lady’s hopes for significantly narrowing Mr. Obama’s lead in delegates. The states had been punished for holding early primaries, and Mrs. Clinton won both elections, which were largely uncontested.

In a carefully worded letter, Mr. Obama briefly acknowledged taking a different position during the primary, but he appealed to “party unity” in backing a full vote for Florida and Michigan now. The move was a foregone conclusion, since Mr. Obama had indicated he would support the arrangement once he was the nominee to avoid alienating voters in each state. Mrs. Clinton released a statement yesterday voicing her support for the move, and the committee chairmen said the matter would be the “top priority” at its next meeting.

Wait a minute. Both Florida and Michigan broke the DNC’s own rules, but now the Hillary is out of it, it’s ok, they’re welcomed back into the fold? That’s pretty much like grounding your teen for sneaking out the window in the middle of the night, and then telling him it’s ok, you can go to the big party. Nothing is accomplished!

Underresourced police say they’re unable to fight gangs

Two police officers admitted to The Courier-Mail the “grubs have control of the streets” because of understaffing

“Most police divisions struggle to put two cars on the road each shift and those crews can have up to 30 jobs backed up on their call sign when they start duty,” one two-decade veteran said.

Another officer said he was “trapped in the station doing paperwork”.

“I would love to be on the road for any entire shift to catch crooks,” he said.

Doesn’t Australia have a few deserted islands somewhere off the coast? Might be a good idea to do a major round up, send the thugs to the islands, and let ‘em fend for themselves. Do an airdrop now and then of necessities, but other than that, let ‘em kill each other, and leave the law abiding citizens along. I have suggested such a measure on this side of the Pacific, but no one pays attentions. sigh…

Senate Seeks to Censor Big Brother Africa

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Information, Senator Ayogu Eze, told Senate correspondents yesterday in Abuja that, “what we have said is that if they bring a programme that contradicts our social and cultural values, they attract a sanction and the NBC is under instructions to make sure that the rules are strictly applied.”

He spoke against the backdrop of reactions to reports linking the National Assembly to a move to ban Multi-Choice from relaying the next edition of the programme to the Nigerian audience.

What the Nigerians don’t seem to understand, NBC has no ‘moral’ standards. Come to think of it, neither do the other alphabets. Sad.
