Something That MUST Be Read!

13 August 2008, 10:51 pm. 6 Comments. Filed under 2008, Opinion, Politics.

Mr Shoebox, of No Runny Eggs fame, has discovered that the WHOLE world is NOT enamored of ………… THE ONE!

Barack, You Missed a Spot!

To hear it from the MSM, the entire world was enraptured by Barack Obama as he moved about his recent “Tour of Planet Earth.” Even the normally stoic Germans were reported to have 200,000 devotees clamoring to get near enough to touch his robe (messianic reference there.) After this successful tour I remain surprised that the presumptuous Presidential candidate would settle for being mere President of the US of A. I have been fully expecting the presumptuous candidate to announce that based on the world’s need for change, he would bypass being President of the US and move right to being elected President of the World.

However, with all the spit and polish that was used to produce his tour, it appears Obama missed at least one spot.

Andrew Bolt, a conservative columnist for the Australian newspaper Herald Sun had some observations about the way that the Republican’s presumed nominee and the Democrat’s presumptuous nominee responded to Russia’s invasion of Georgia:

Don’t Barack for Georgia
WE have just had a lesson in how the next president of the US would react to a real menace to the world’s peace.
…Here’s McCain: “Tensions and hostilities between Georgians and Ossetians are in no way justification for Russian troops crossing an internationally recognised border.”

Russia had “to immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces”. NATO should swiftly accept Georgia as a member, which would oblige Europe and the US to come to its aid.

Now here’s Obama’s camp: “It’s both sides’ fault — both have been somewhat provocative with each other.” The United Nations should step in and send a peacekeeping force under “an appropriate UN mandate”.

Not a very flattering take on the presumptuous nominee’s approach to this international crisis.

Apparently unfazed by his messianic aura, Bolt goes on to point out Obama’s gaffe in responding to a “3 AM call” moment

Knock, knock. Excuse me, Mr Obama, sir. But Russia is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and would veto any UN move in Georgia it didn’t like.

Mr. Bolt goes on to sum up what a growing number of people are realizing:

One of these two men will next year take charge of the US – the greatest guarantor of freedom in a world increasingly threatened by freedom’s enemies. Pray the right man wins.

Apparently the whole world hasn’t become enraptured by the Obamessiah. While he may have won over countries that already have the characteristics of what Obama wants America to look like i.e. more socialism, more government, less individual responsibility, he hasn’t pulled the wool over the eyes of countries who still understand that capitalism and individual accountability are still key to a country’s success.

Isn’t it nice to know there are still a FEW sane people left in the world?

I was hesitant to post this after the incident in Arkansas, but I figured, this is something I’ve been posting each morning for a while, so I might as well.  Sorry it’s late.  Been busy.

BIGGER UPDATE: Again via Texas Fred in comments: (I’ve been dealing with a minor/major family issue, so haven’t been keeping up. Thanks for the head’s up Fred.)

Gunman kills Arkansas Democratic Party chairman

Chairman Bill Gwatney died four hour after the shooting. The 48-year-old former state senator had been planning to travel to the Democratic National Convention later this month as a Hillary Clinton superdelegate.

Dear Lord. This is insane. My most sincere prayers with the family.

UPDATE: The suspect has died. Via Texas Fred in comments:

Wounded suspect in Ark. shooting dies after chase

Police say a man suspected of bursting into the Arkansas Democratic Party headquarters and shooting the party chairman has died.

Hells bells. This seriously sucks. Why? Because there is going to be some serious finger pointing from the left. Odds are, even if the guy is a Dem, the right is going to be blamed. No matter what the truth is, I hope rational minds will rule. (Ever the optimist!)

As Fred said, let the speculation begin. sigh…

Still praying for the former state Senator, Gwatney, and his family!
Ark. Dem. Party Chairman Shot At Headquarters

Chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party, Bill Gwatney, in critical condition following a shooting at the Democratic headquarters in Arkansas. A gunman walked into his building and fired multiple shots, according to CBS affiliate station KTHV-TV.

The gunman asked to speak to the party chairman, Bill Gwatney , and fired three shots.

“He came in and went into this office and started shooting,” police Lt. Terry Hastings told reporters near the party headquarters.

Gwatney, a former legislator, was in critical condition, Hastings said.

The suspect was chased into Grant County, south of Little Rock, and apprehended after being shot, the police spokesman said. The suspect’s condition was not known.

Sarah Lee, a sales clerk at a flower shop across street from the party headquarters, said that around noon Gwatney’s secretary ran into the shop and asked someone to call 911. She said a man had come into the party and shot Gwatney multiple times.

Lee said the secretary told her the man had come into the party’s office and asked to speak with Gwatney. When the secretary said she wouldn’t allow him to meet with Gwatney, the man went into his office and shot him, Lee said.

She said the secretary described the man as in his 40s and white and drove off in a blue truck.

What the hell is wrong with people?????

I honestly pray Mr. Gwatney will be ok. Major prayers with his family.

Morning Coffee 08/13/08 – Late Edition

THP investigates Cooley ticket-fixer

The state trooper who fixed then-Deputy Gov. Dave Cooley’s speeding ticket is being investigated for allegations that he ran unauthorized criminal background checks on private citizens and state employees.

The investigation into the allegations against Lt. Ronnie Shirley will take weeks to finalize, and then it will be turned over to the local district attorney, THP spokesman Mike Browning said in an e-mail Tuesday.

It’s unclear how many unauthorized checks Shirley is accused of running, or exactly on whom they were allegedly performed. The THP declined to release that information Tuesday.

Oh, now there’s a shocker! A person in a position of power abusing said power. I’m sure we’re all REAL surprised. (insert MASSIVE sarcasm here)

Russia Breaks 12-Hour Truce as Tanks Rolls South

Russian tanks rolled into the crossroads city of Gori today then thrust deep into Georgian territory, violating the truce designed to end the six-day war that has uprooted 100,000 people and scarred the Georgian landscape.

Georgian officials said Gori was looted and bombed by the Russians. An AP reporter later saw dozens of tanks and military vehicles leaving the city, roaring south.

Troops waved at journalists and one soldier jokingly shouted to a photographer: “Come with us, beauty, we’re going to Tbilisi!”

I don’t think the “Cold War” ever really ended and it seems this might be the precursor to a “Hot War”. I seriously hope not, but I don’t think diplomacy is going to be much help. It seems the old Stalinism is making a come back. :( Actually, I don’t think it has ever gone away.

Spaceship Could Fly Faster Than Light

Travel by bubble might seem more appropriate for witches in Oz, but two physicists suggest that a future spaceship could fold a space-time bubble around itself to travel faster than the speed of light.

We’re talking about the very distant future, of course.

The idea involves manipulating dark energy – the mysterious force behind the universe’s ongoing expansion – to propel a spaceship forward without breaking the laws of physics.

“Think of it like a surfer riding a wave,” said Gerald Cleaver, a physicist at Baylor University. “The ship would be pushed by the spatial bubble and the bubble would be traveling faster than the speed of light.”

Now, how cool is that! Don’t think I’d try it, but hey, I’m a wuss!

France probes anti-Semitic shirt sales

The slogans printed on the T-shirts, in German and Polish, appeared in Nazi signs from 1940, and translate as “Jews forbidden from entering the park,” the BBC reported.

The slogans were originally used against the Jewish community in the Polish town of Lodz. During World War II, the Nazis sent the town’s Jews to concentration camps and murdered practically its entire 200,000-strong Jewish population.

One person had bought five of the gray shirts for approximately €18 each, a worker from the Belleville district Parisian store said. The sales assistant added she did not understand what the inscription meant.

There have been several scuffles between youngsters of North African origin and young Jewish people in the Belleville neighborhood, situated in eastern Paris.

This kind of stuff just makes me sick to my stomach. Did the store owner know what it was? Or was he/she of the mind, if it sells, it “must be good”. NOT good. 6,000,000 human beings – men, women, and children were murdered. To drag out such a thing again just boggles the mind. I have my suspicions on who is behind the shirts, but I’ll refrain from making a comment. YOU figure it out.

Plame loses appeal of suit against Cheney over leak

Former CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson and her husband on Tuesday lost an appeal in their lawsuit against top Bush administration officials, but their attorney says another appeal is likely.

Mrs. Wilson, the wife of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, sued Vice President Dick Cheney and others for violating her privacy, saying they leaked her name to the media. Syndicated columnist Robert Novak identified Mrs. Wilson in a July 14, 2003, column as “an agency operative on weapons of mass destruction.”

I thought this nonsense was settled. We all know who made the “leak”, Richard Armitage, so why are they still pursuing the Veep? Both of them, Plame and Wilson, are full of ka ka, and seem to want to keep their names in the paper. If she is so concerned about her ‘safety’, why doesn’t she just shut up, and go about her life like a normal person? Just askin’.

Deal spares drag racer prison time in Selmer car show crash

A professional drag racer charged with killing six spectators when he lost control of his car during a show in West Tennessee has agreed to plead guilty to lesser charges as part of a deal that will spare him jail time.

Troy Critchley is scheduled to enter his plea at a hearing Thursday, Dist. Atty. Gen. Michael Dunavant said Tuesday. Critchley’s lawyer confirmed the plea agreement.

Critchley, an Australian professional driver living in Texas, was charged with six counts of reckless vehicular homicide and 22 counts of aggravated assault in last year’s crash at the Cars for Kids festival in Selmer, about 80 miles east of Memphis.

Under terms of the deal released to the media Tuesday, Critchley will plead guilty to 28 counts of reckless simple assault, a misdemeanor, and will spend 18 months on probation. He will not be fined or have to pay restitution; only court costs.

Ok, I think I can go along with the no jail time. However, no fine? Hmmm….. I think there should have been some sort of fine. People died because of his stupidity, and a community has been in mourning ever since. You can still see little memorials left on the side of the road as you drive through Selmer. Yes, I do think a fine would have been appropriate.

Dems rake in cash after appearing on ‘Colbert Report’

Fowler’s analysis finds “that Democrats who appear on ‘The Colbert Report’ enjoy a significant increase in the number and total amount of donations they receive over the next 30-40 days when compared to similar candidates who do not appear on the show. Specifically, Democrats who come on the program raise $8,247 more than colleagues who don’t do so on the 32nd day following their appearance.”

A reflection of the intelligence level of the show, and the people who watch it. And you can take that any way ya wanna. :)

Two arrested for railway smoking row

Two men have been arrested in connection with an incident in which a woman was pushed onto a railway line.

A 30-year-old man and an 18-year-old youth were arrested by British Transport Police (BTP) following the incident at a railway station in Kent last week.

Lin Buchanan, 58, suffered a fractured wrist and bruising to her legs after she was pushed onto the railway line at Farningham Road station following an altercation over smoking at the station.

Hmmmm…. Why do I have this mental image of a self appointed “smoking police” type nagging about the evils of smoking, and causing the altercation? Probably because that’s basically what happened. Granted, she shouldn’t have been pushed, unless she made an aggressive move, but I’ve no doubt there will be more such incidents if the PC police continue their ‘nanny’ push.

Bush Orders Military to Deliver Aid to Georgia

Bush said a U.S. C-17 aircraft with humanitarian supplies is already on its way and U.S. aircraft and Naval forces will deliver humanitarian and medical supplies to the country in the coming days.

“The mission will be vigorous and ongoing,” Bush said from the White House Rose Garden with Defense Secretary Bob Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice by his side.

“We expect Russia to honor its commitment to let in all forms of humanitarian assistance. We expect Russia to insure that all lines of communication and transport, including seaports, airports, roads and airspace, remain open for the delivery of humanitarian assistance and for civilian transit,” Bush said.

Bush said he is also sending Rice to Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, to “personally convey America’s unwavering support for the government of Georgia.” Rice will travel beforehand to France to meet with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Is it really smart to send the Secretary of State to a war zone? I mean, where active fighting may be going on? Didn’t the Russians say they were headed to the capital of Georgia in that story up there at the top? I’m also wondering if the ‘soulless’ Putin will take that aid as an act of aggression?

ACK!

13 August 2008, 11:01 am. 5 Comments. Filed under Blog Stuff.

This morning, before my meeting, I made a stop at the post office to mail a package.  He gave me the price, and my jaw hit the floor!  Then, he told me I could send it ‘media’ for a LOT cheaper, like 7 bucks cheaper, but it would be subject to inspection, if the Postmaster chose to do so.  I asks if this was part of the Patriot Act stuff, which I said some of which I have a few disagreements.  The guy said, “You must be a liberal.”

Now, I’ve been called a lot of things, racist, Nazi, bigot, etc., and I don’t give a flying flip, but THAT hurt!

I proceeded to tell him, politely of course, BITE YOUR TONGUE!  After that we had a very nice conversation.  I gave him my card, and told him to check out just how much of a ‘liberal’ I really am.  Heh.

Hmm….he’s also a pastor, so I better watch my language.  Not that I use too many words that are inappropriate for a ‘family’ blog, but every once in a while……  Reckon the dibble grabs a hold of my tongue during the occasional rant.  :?

So, if ya come by Pastor Post Office….WELCOME!  I’ll try to behave.  :)

I also ran into the candidate for TN State Rep for my district, Vance Dennis.  Told him he REALLY needs to update his web page, and make it easier for folks to donate online, with PayPal, or credit cards, or whatever.  He’s one of the GOOD guys.  I will definitely link to him in the 2008 section of the sidebar……as soon as I send the info to E, so he can do it!  heh.

I’ve got to go to a stupid meeting this morning, so had to get ready for that.  No time to peruse the papers.  BUT, on my return, I hope I’ll still be awake enough to put a few things together.  No doubt, I need that coffee!

Verse of the Day

13 August 2008, 7:00 am. Comments Off. Filed under Faith.

2 Peter 2:1-10

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
