Nothing Better To Do, Cohen?

Cohen Pushes For “Isaac Hayes Int’l Airport”

Congressman Steve Cohen says he will push to incorporate Isaac Hayes’ name into the name of Memphis International Airport.

Cohen said he made a mention of the change at the tribute to Hayes held Monday and got a huge response.

Cohen is drafting a letter to the Memphis and Shelby County Airport Authority suggesting the name change.

The letter will also go to City Council members, County Commissioners, and both mayors.

Cohen said right now there is a lot of public sentiment and support for the name change and their support could make it happen.

Really? A lot? 50% – no! Well, I suppose those 43% could be counted as a majority, if you’re a Dhimmi. Ya ever wonder why people bother to respond to polls if they have no opinion? If you don’t have an opinion, don’t put one out there. People are very strange like that.

He told us he’s also going to contact Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley to see if they will help support the move.

Cohen says Elvis has Graceland as a memorial, but Isaac doesn’t have a home to do the same.

Stax Rock & Soul Museum includes exhibits about Hayes but is centered around Stax and not Hayes.

There was a move several years ago to rename the airport in Elvis Presley’s honor, but Cohen says Elvis had been gone for a while and already had a memorial in Memphis and since Hayes just passed away the move has a better chance of being passed.

Cohen points out other cities have honored musicians such as the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in New Orleans.

I could see them changing it to Presely. I can NOT see it being changed to Hayes. Why? Well, no offense to Mr. Hayes, or his family, but he was no Elvis Presley. :) No, it’s got nothing to do with the style of music…I actually prefer Hayes, for the most part. It’s got a whole lot to do with name. If I were to go almost anywhere in the world, and ask a stranger on the street about Elvis Presley, you can be fairly sure they’d know who I was talking about. Hayes? You could say “Shaft”, and they MIGHT know. Just might. Louis Armstrong? A world renowned name, so yeah, that’s ok too. You think Armstrong, you think St. Louis. Oh, and “Hello Dolly”, but we won’t go there.

Honestly, if they really want MY humble opinion? Leave the name alone. It’s in Memphis, it should be called Memphis. I really hate to go to airports and not have a clue as to what city I’m in.

And besides…..no offense Rep. Cohen, but don’t you have something better to do? Like get your hind end back to D.C. and get this drilling mess dealt with…..RIGHT NOW!?

It’s the STAX MUSEUM OF AMERICAN SOUL MUSIC. And if you will take the time time to do a simple Google search, you will find that people all over the world indeed know who Isaac Hayes is.
