Cheney slams Russia for war against Georgia
Demonstrating Washington’s commitment to beleaguered Georgia, U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney flew in Thursday and condemned Russia for what he called an “illegitimate, unilateral attempt” to redraw Georgia’s borders by force.
When Russia wants to take over an area vital to Europe’s energy, yeah, I think they need to be slammed, and often. Go Dick Go!
Proposal: Outlaw sex between officials, employees
Maryland state elected officials who have sexual relationships with employees under their supervision would be violating state ethics law, if a county commissioner gets his way.
The ethics law would not apply, however, if the official and the worker were married to each other.
Good grief! Common sense applied would make it unnecessary for anyone to even bother thinking up such a law! Ya don’t boff your employees! Whether it’s consensual or not! Isn’t that covered by all that ‘sexual harassment’ nonsense? And ya sure don’t boff your boss! Not a good way to ‘climb the ladder’. As for co workers. Well, common sense would tell ya if the relationship ended, there could be major problems in the work place. But then, these days, common sense has flown right out the window with the “ME” generation. sigh….
Frederick County Commissioner John Thompson says the proposal is a response to a specific situation, but he won’t name the people involved out of consideration for innocent third parties.
Like maybe spouses and children? I’m starting to think chastity belts might be a good idea….again! Jeeez!
No peacekeepers deployed near Darfur camp — IDPs
Darfur Internally Displaced People (IDPs) at Kalma camp in South Darfur said there are no peacekeepers deployed near the camps to protect civilians and prevent government troops from attacking them again.
And this is a surprise? The Useless Numnuts don’t want their thugs getting hurt protecting the innocent, so just let the innocent die, instead of the rapists!
THP moves to fire snooping trooper
The Tennessee Highway Patrol recommended Wednesday that a trooper be fired for running unauthorized background checks of Tennesseans, a likely career-ender for the officer who has twice been a subject of department probes.
Col. Mike Walker, who heads the highway patrol, recommended that Lt. Ronnie Shirley be terminated for making 182 checks into confidential records of Tennesseans, in most cases without authorization. The letter said Shirley has abused his authority and committed “gross misconduct.”
“Gross misconduct”! Well, there’s an understatement! I’d like to know why it’s taken them this long! Oh yeah….Bredesen connections. Forgot. Sorry!
Clarke tells Brown to ‘stand down with honour’
Gordon Brown’s leadership was called into further question today when former Home Secretary Charles Clarke warned he had just months to prove himself or he would have to “stand down with honour”.
Mr Clarke had already re-ignited the prospects of a leadership challenge when he warned the Labour Party would not allow the Premier to lead them to “utter destruction” at the next election.
I gotta tell ya, from this side of the big pond, Brown has been a complete joke! I’ve seen no evidence of leadership qualities in this guy. He may have talked a good game, but he sure hasn’t played one! He’s made Britain look even weaker. No wonder they are being taken over by Islamists.
Largely unreported in the American and Western media, on August 10, two days after the start of both the Russian invasion and the Olympics, Palestinian lead negotiator Ahmed Qurie declared that if the peace process did not advance towards a final settlement soon, Palestinians would stop pursuing a two-state solution and demand the establishment of a bi-national state with Israel.
Oh no. That would NOT work at all! Why don’t the Pallies, make use of the land they have already been given? Seems to me they have squander or destroyed anything that was left by the Israelis when they moved out of those territories. Whose fault is it that the people live in poverty? Not Israel’s, that’s for sure! A “Bi National state” would lead to more terror, and that’s just not acceptable!
Barbour: Coast is blessed after storm
The Mississippi Gulf Coast is easing back into business after being shaken – but not badly stirred – by Hurricane Gustav.
“We were just blessed by the grace of God,” Gov. Haley Barbour said Wednesday after taking a nearly two-hour helicopter tour of the coast.
Thousands of people who fled Gustav forced New Orleans to reluctantly open its doors Wednesday, while President Bush returned to the site of one of the biggest failures of his presidency to show that the government had turned a corner since its bungled response to Katrina.
Experience is a great teacher. I just hope no one forgets those lessons learned! And BTW, it wasn’t really Bush’s failure, it was the Dhimmi run state of LA at the time. I really wish the feckless media would get that right, just once!
Report: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to Resign in Plea Deal
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will step down as the mayor of the nation’s 11th-largest city, the Wall Street Journal reports, as part of a plea deal with prosecutors in a sex-and-misconduct scandal.
The Wall Street Journal reports Kilpatrick will resign, plead guilty to two felonies, spend four months in jail and pay the city of Detroit $1 million.
It’s about flippin’ time! Dang! He should have resigned months ago. It would have saved Detroit a LOT of money they just don’t have. What an arrogant SOB!
Six Iraqis Killed During ‘Mistaken Fire’ With U.S. Troops
U.S. troops on boats in the Tigris river mistakenly killed six Iraqis Wednesday in an exchange of fire between the two sides north of Baghdad, Iraqi officials said.
The clash began when Iraqi troops at a checkpoint fired at approaching U.S. military boats near Tarmiyah, 30 miles north of Baghdad, police and security officials said. They did not realize the boats, which had their lights off, were American.
The U.S. soldiers fired back, killing two Iraqi soldiers, two police officers and two U.S.-backed Sunni tribesmen, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to release the information to the media.
Well, excuse me if I ask…..if the Iraqis were firing on the troops, aren’t they suppose to fire back? It’s called self defense! Just why the hell were the Iraqis firing on them anyway?
Pyramid missing $1M in contents
City Councilman Bill Boyd wants to know where as much as $1 million worth of equipment and furnishings have been moved, who authorized the moves and why.
Boyd has requested that Philadelphia-based SMG, the worldwide venue management company that is overseeing the vacant arena, provide an accounting of what was inside the arena before its last event, a Bob Seger concert on Feb. 4, 2007. Boyd also wants a complete list of all items removed from The Pyramid and their location.
A million bucks worth? That’s a whole lot of stuff to just go “missing”. Yeah, I’d be questioning that management company too!
Cindy McCain parts with Palin on abortion, sex ed
The wife of Republican presidential nominee John McCain doesn’t agree with vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s opposition to abortion in cases of rape and incest.
Cindy McCain also parts ways with her husband’s running mate on sex education.
Palin opposes abortion and rejects the view that pregnancies caused by rape and incest should be exceptions.
Cindy McCain tells ABC’s “Good Morning America” that “I don’t agree with that aspect, but I do respect her for her views.”
Isn’t it interesting that since they started teaching all that sex education in schools, teen pregnancy has gone UP? There’s only one thing that works 100%! And they don’t want to teach it, nor will they bring back shame. Sad! As for the other, there is adoption!
Obama Campaign Defends Community Organizing
“They lied about Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and they attacked you for being a part of this campaign. But worst of all — and this deserves to be noted — they insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process.”
Plouffe then defended Obama’s experience as a community organizer, which John McCain’s running mate mocked in her speech:
“Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown,” Sarah Palin said. “And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves.
Uh huh. And what part of that is a lie? Did BO have executive experience while he was screwing up those housing projects? Not that I’m aware of. Sucking from the American taxpayers teet does not constitute executive experience!
Hells Angels leader in S.F. shot dead in fight
Mark “Papa” Guardado, 45, was shot at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday near 24th Street and Treat Avenue, about a mile from the group’s clubhouse where he lived. He died at San Francisco General Hospital.
Witnesses told investigators that Guardado and the gunman struggled before the shooting.
“They had a wrestling match first,” said Lt. Mike Stasko of the San Francisco police homicide detail. Then “the guy shot him, and he got on his motorcycle and left.”
45??? Don’t these people ever grow up?
