5 accused as “holy warriors” in plot on Fort Dix
A federal prosecutor described the five defendants in the Fort Dix terrorism trial yesterday as considering themselves “holy warriors” intent on bringing jihad to America.
“Their motive was to defend Islam, their inspiration was al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden,” said deputy U.S. attorney William Fitzpatrick in opening arguments in U.S. District Court.
Perhaps someone should inform the defendants there’s NOTHING holy about murdering innocent people! This isn’t the battle ground…..yet. Wouldn’t do any good cuz evidently, Imams are real good at brain washing.
Two Justices Clash Over Race and Death Penalty
In respectful but pointed language, Justices John Paul Stevens and Clarence Thomas clashed over whether race could have influenced the imposition of the death sentence for Artemus Rick Walker, a black Georgia man convicted of killing a white bank vice president. The court rejects hundreds of cases each year, mostly without comment, and yesterday it declined to hear Walker’s appeal.
I read that more blacks are convicted of crimes than whites. Well, if you have more blacks committing crimes than whites, then yeah, you would definitely have more being convicted. When it comes to the death penalty, I don’t give a flip what color the animal is…black, white, purple. Murder is committed, justice should be done.
Bredesen courts German parts suppliers
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen headed for Germany on Monday to try to persuade auto parts suppliers to locate production facilities near a new Volkswagen plant being built in Chattanooga.
Bredesen, a Democrat, said he was leading the trade mission in hopes of attracting more automotive jobs within 100 miles of the plant.
“Volkswagen made it clear during our earlier discussions that they prefer to have suppliers located relatively proximate to them,” the governor said in a phone interview late last week.
The plant in Chattanooga is projected to cost about $1 billion and employ more than 2,000. Bredesen said he sees little chance that the current economic downturn could affect VW’s plans for the plant because the German automaker is making a very long-term investment.
Most of the time, I’m not all that crazy about Bredesen, but he does make the effort to bring businesses into Tennessee…I gotta give him that. This is a very business friendly state when it comes to taxes. More states should figure that out. Lower taxes, more business. Hey! Bubba H! You hear that????
Fed launches new plan to help money market funds
The U.S. Federal Reserve on Tuesday launched a new facility to fund purchases of certificates of deposit and commercial paper from money market mutual funds in the latest step to provide liquidity to strained financial markets.
“By facilitating the sales of money market instruments in the secondary market, the MMIFF (Money Market Investor Funding Facility) should improve the liquidity position of money market investors, thus increasing their ability to meet any further redemption requests and their willingness to invest in money market instruments,” the Fed said in a statement.
And so it grows! More bureaucracy. More gubmint employees paid by your tax dollars. I hope people realize that we no longer call the shots. D.C. has given away our right to self govern. Bush has already started the ball rolling towards socialism. Once freedom is lost, it’s really hard to get it back. I hope people are ready, because we’re going to have to literally fight to regain control.
Iran sanction talks produce no result
On the call, the diplomats said “they remain committed to the dual-track strategy and will remain in close contact on developments over the coming days and weeks,” said deputy State Department spokesman Robert Wood. He would not discuss details of the conversation.
The dual-track strategy is the main element of a slow-moving pressure campaign to persuade Iran to give up objectionable parts of its nuclear program. It would offer to Iran incentives to stop enriching uranium but threatens sanctions if Teheran should continue to refuse, which it has done thus far.
The Iranians are not going to give up any part of their nuclear ambitions. Ahmadinnerjacket has already stated his intentions. Why won’t anyone believe him? Criminy!
‘Drunk’ United Airlines Pilot Arrested Before Takeoff
One stunned passenger said: “We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. The pilot was frog-marched off the aircraft.
“A couple of police officers stormed on to the plane as we were all sitting down and went straight for the cockpit.
“We didn’t have a clue what was happening and we were kept waiting on the plane for hours.
“It is horrifying to think we were apparently so close to being flown thousands of miles by somebody who could have been drinking.
For the life of me, I can’t imagine why anyone would think they could fly a plane soused! Why do people believe that they are capable of doing the same thing drunk, just as well as when they are sober? It doesn’t work that way, and I’d really like to smack these types of people. Plain, car, four wheeler….any kind of machinery. Doesn’t matter! Your reflexes are NOT as good. REALITY SNAP! I’m starting to think that all pilots should take a breathalizer before they get anywhere near a plane! And the passengers should have been let off the plane while they were looking for a new pilot!
Local candidates stretch to link with Obama
If imitation is one of the most sincere forms of flattery, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama should be blushing right about now.
(…)
Councilman Nat Bates has produced posters with the oval Obama campaign logo and “Bates and Obama” in an effort to compete with nine other candidates for three open seats on the council.
Bates defended his campaign strategy, saying the placards were his way of touting support for Obama’s presidential bid.
I suppose if a local candidate wants to be associated with socialism, then that would be the way to do it. But this is San Fransisco, so I suppose it’s normal.
Fla. Rep. Mahoney’s Wife Files for Divorce Amid Sex Scandal
The wife of a Florida congressman embroiled in an adultery scandal filed for divorce Monday.
U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney admitted last week to having at least two affairs, including with an aide he paid off to keep her quiet about their relationship. His wife, Terry Mahoney, did not comment on seeking the divorce, and her attorney, Karen Steger, said “the petition speaks for itself.”
Good for her! I’m so sick of these women who “stand by their man”, who isn’t really a man at all, but a zipper waiting to open and let it all spill out.
However, the first-term Democrat, in a tight bid for re-election, insists he broke no laws and will not resign. Voters chose him on a family values platform to replace Mark Foley, a Republican who resigned amid revelations that he sent lurid Internet messages to teenage male pages who worked on Capitol Hill.
The weasel should also resign! There’s a difference between a one time thing, and repenting, and a long term affair. Not to mention paying off the other woman. He ran on “family values”. I see nothing about this whole situtation that promotes those values. Adultery is against God’s law, so yes, he did break a very important law. If Foley had the class to resign, when he all he did was send emails, this weasel should resign. Oh, I forgot….Dhimmicrats have no class.
House prices ‘to plummet by 35%’ – the biggest ever fall in Britain
The alarming collapse will be the biggest fall in house prices ever witnessed in Britain overshadowing any of the previous slumps.
The warning, from the consultancy Capital Economics, will horrify homeowners who bought recently but face being plunged into negative equity.
Every month, around 60,000 homeowners are falling into this trap, when the size of their mortgage is bigger than the value of their home.
The house prices have been overblown for the last 20 years. While this whole mess could have been avoided, in a way, I’m glad to see the prices of house falling. Most of them aren’t worth anywhere near what the price tag shows. Hopefully, in a few years, things will settle down, and folks will once again be able to afford a decent home….those that can actually afford one, that is. In the meantime, times are going to be tough.
Union says 22 kids a day kicked out of Brisbane school
The union said inadequate funding contributed to escalating violence at schools in the region where students regularly assaulted or threatened staff and their peers. Smoking, drugs, truancy, abusive language and unsafe behaviours like tackling were other common triggers for suspension. The Courier-Mail recently reported suspensions were up 25 per cent at Gold Coast and Ipswich schools, which includes those in Logan and Beaudesert, since 2005-06.
Wrong!! Throwing money at this type of problem is ridiculous! Look at the parents, and you might see what’s wrong with the students. Seriously, why should kids respect teachers, or any other authority figures when their parents don’t, and there are no consequences for their actions?
Another economic stimulus package in works
Momentum is building for a fresh dose of economic stimulants to boost the country out of the doldrums — perhaps by putting more money in Americans’ pockets.
The White House said Monday that President Bush was open to some sort of action after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned the slump could drag on without the extra bracing tonic.
The first ’stimulus package’ was a really stupid idea. Do they really believe a second one is more intelligent? Who the hell is in charge up there? Oh yes, let’s put the country even further in debt by handing out checks….paid for by the taxpayers. What a bunch of morons! What we NEED if for the asshats in D.C. to STOP FREAKIN’ TINKERING!
Japanese FM hopes Iran will play key role in int’l community
Hirofumi Nakasone said that Tehran and Tokyo enjoy friendly and long-lasting ties.
Expressing his country’s readiness to back Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Nakasone said that Iran should gain international confidence over its peaceful nuclear activities.
Japan is a country which has suffered from atomic bombings.
And since the Japanese know the horrors of such bombings, why, for the love of all that’s Holy, would they want to support Iran in their pursuit of the destruction of Israel and the U.S.?
