An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Nice Evening
This evening, the Mr and I headed over to Selmer for a political shindig. We were suppose to park at a local bank, and a van was going to pick attendees up, and tote them to the house where folks were congregating. Well, leave it to me to read the name of the bank wrong! After waiting for a good half hour, we decided to just come home. On the way out of town, we noticed another bank, with a van picking up people. sigh… Yup! That was the RIGHT place to be.
Well, we managed to park the car, get in the van, and I’ll be darned if one of the other people didn’t put the Mr into a tailspin. He said something to the effect that the van was going to a Randy Camp event. ACK! I thought the Mr was going to have a stroke. Heh. Pulling up into the driveway, I can see why they didn’t want folks parking there. It was a beautiful place, with a VERY narrow drive.
The young fella running for State Rep, Vance Dennis, and the lady running for State Senate, Delores Gresham, were in attendance.
Now, the shindig was actually for Rep. Marsha Blackburn. I tell ya, you know you’ve made an impression on someone you’ve never actually met when they recognize your name, and know you’re a blogger. Heh.
Yeah, it’s a seriously crappy picture of me, but then, I take crappy pictures anyway. I’m gonna blame it on the fact that I was still jackin’ my jaws when the Mr snapped.
This is one seriously impressive lady. She answered some pretty good questions, one of which stands out in my mind. A young man asked, “Why is the President letting Pelosi and Reid run all over him, without responding to the critisism?” The answer, “I don’t know.” Evidently, members have asked him to stand up to the weasels, but he refuses. What happened to the cowboy? What happened to the guy who use to play tough? We sure haven’t seen any evidence of the guy so many of us campaigned for four years ago. He’s done a lot of things lately that has nothing to do with the guy we casts our votes for back when.
She also responded to questions about the bailout. One point she brought up, this bill did NOTHING for the people who are at risk of losing their homes, only the fatcats on Wall Street. I wish she could have explained why, with all the pork that was loaded, why so many Republicans voted for that fiasco, and better yet, why the President didn’t use his veto pen.
She did say that other members were trying to convince McCain to change his stand on drilling in ANWR.
All in all, it was a pretty good evening. Nice folks, good eats and such. I wish I had taken notes, but I forgot my notebook. I did tell her if she ever wanted to guest blog, she’d be more than welcome! ![]()
When we got home, we had two robo calls on the answering machine, one for Randy Camp, the other for Stan Wheeler, both Democrats. I find this rather odd since we haven’t received one single call from the Republican side. Then, as we were sitting down to watch the idjit box, we got another call. When I looked at the caller ID, it said Nevada, 775-000-0000. I don’t answer calls like that. I don’t answer “unknown caller” either. That’s why we have an answering machine, right? Five minutes later, the same thing. If it was a robo call, why not leave a message? Hmmm….

Thanks for that! Now I can see a face when I think of you.
@Cindy:
I don’t suppose you’d believe I was the younger, thinner, prettier one, would you?
I thought it was a good picture of you.
@Kay Brooks:
Ya mean for an old, short, fat woman? Heh.
Well I don’t mean to be mean but a dinner with politicians in this day and time is kind of like eating in sewage plant.. No matter what the food is the ambiance is ruined by the BS surroundings…Sound a bit jaded huh?
Yeah well I guess after 4 years of MORONS, and then 2 years of DEMORAT Morons.. I am less than optimistic for the future…*sigh*
“Ya mean for an old, short fat woman?”
Hey, we gotta stick together here.
@Robert:
Jaded? You??? Naw….
Actually, Marsha is one of the very few conservatives left, so that’s why I’m such a big supporter of hers. Kind of like Sarah in a lot of respects, but she doesn’t hunt moose, just deer. Heh. Since Vance hasn’t been on The Hill yet, he’s still a good guy. Delores? Well, honestly, I didn’t vote for her in the primary, cuz I supported the local guy. Last night was the first time I had met her too. I’m gonna reserve judgment.
I think that you are rather cute. Tell Mr. Ol B that I feel that he has a good eye for women.
By going to the pol meeting, it would seem that you missed the Bio channel’s back to back programs on Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. A shame,as they are two fine singers that did the music that they wanted to do and not just what might be popular. I had forgotten that for a while they made music together.
You know, Marsha “Queen of Pork” Blackburn is a NeoCon ? dont cha?
@Gary Kayser:
Cute?? Heh. Thank ya…but at 17, I was cute. Now, I’m just old and wrinkled, with 2 chins too many.
Biography Channel eh? Well, I guess I’ll have to see when they are going to run those again. The Mr being a musician and all, would find that interesting. Well, I would too. LOTS of memories with their music.
@mickey:
After living in Tom Petri’s district, pork isn’t an issue. LMAO
Neocon? Hon, I’m as far right to the right as a person can be….does that make me a neocon? Let’s see, I believe in free markets, limited welfare, and traditional cultural values. Hmm…. Reckon so.
But do you believe in the Bridge to Nowhere? Marhsa does.
Do you we should pay BILLIONs to fight Global Aids? Marsha does.
Do you think the Feds should pay unemployment? Marsha does.
Do you think we should pass all theses CAFTA like trade agreements? Marsha Does.
Did you get my money in the 600$ stimulus check? Thanks to marsha.
Do you support the Real ID act? Marsha does.
Should we be in Iraq? Marsha thinks so.
Do you support money for foreign aid? Marhsa does.
Now, is she a Conservative?
@mickey:
You don’t link to the bills she voted for…what else was in the bill? Lord knows, they can’t just have a bill with ONE thing in it.
Yes, we did get your money. Thank you. You probably got ours!
A couple of things. If a person pays into a retirement fund, yes, they should get their retirement. If I’m not mistaken, most companies (…after all, the federal gubmint is nothing more than a poorly run company, right?) take money out of the paycheck to fund retirement. My dad got a check from the gubmint until the day he died. He actually WORKED for it, and it sounds like you would begrudge him that.
Real ID? Well, I’m more inclined to have such an ID for purposes of proof of citizenship. A driver’s license should suffice, but it doesn’t. Too much fraud. Although, I’m fairly sure there will be those who would find a way to counterfeit such a card as well.
Yeah, we should be in Iraq. Given the intel we had, which ALL of Congress had, Iraq was a danger. You do know that a couple of tons of yellow cake was removed recently, right? If for nothing else, we should have gone in to stop that madman and his spawn from murdering innocents. We won. Pulling out right now would leave a big hole to be filled by even more terrorists. And that’s what Saddam was….a terrorist. No, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and we should have finished that job first. Now, we’ve got a mess. Given the chance, I’m fairly sure it can be rectified. Although my solution is a bit extreme.
Foreign aid? Depends on for who. Children, yes. Terror supporters, oh hell no!
Fair trade? Yes. We haven’t seen much of that cuz we don’t produce much of anything anymore. Sad, isn’t it.
And yeah, compared to many of those who call themselves conservatives in D.C., she’s extremely conservative. What you and I would like to see is not what the reality is with those weasels up there in the Swamp.
Iraq never was a threat to us. Foreign aid is Unconstitutional. We don’t need a 1000 page trade document for real fair trade.
I have reposted Marsha’s Unconstitutional votes on BCR. (just for you)

@mickey:
You’re a sweetie.
Thank you.
Ok, what you are siting is even farther to the right than I am, and that’s pretty hard to do. LMAO Anyways, as much as I’d love for there to be NO governmental spending, some of those bills, well, if ya gotta fund ‘em, ya might as well have the funds, right? Although, I’m with you….a LARGE majority of that crap needs to go away. Anything with the word ‘mandate’ associated with it for starters.
And ANYTHING associated with the Useless Numnuts.
I never said the woman was perfect, but compared to Tom Petri???? She’s a saint! Heh. Those yahoos in D.C. have come up with all kinds of ‘laws’ that have nothing to do with the Constitution. My understanding….military and roads were the basic limits.
Who grew it to such proportions? Well, they ALL did. We are going to be able to reverse the process over night, but folks like Marsha are a good start. Unfortunately, we’ve lost a lot of really good folks to the left of the left, and will probably be losing even more. You know those folks…the ones that TRY to stand up to the ‘machine’ and are destroyed. sigh…
I can tell you what I told her, in email and face to face….. if she had voted for that bailout BS, I would NOT have voted for her! It’s the small battles that end up winning the war.
Iraq? No, at that time, they weren’t a threat to us, even though almost every single politician, here and abroad believed them to be. It wasn’t the brightest move, but we did it. Let’s win it. I’m sick of people constantly trashing the action, which is a really bad moral booster. I support what our men and women are accomplishing. They’ve made amazing progress. I just wish the Iraqis weren’t such flippin’ cowards for so freakin’ long and had stood up against the terrorists. Iraq is NOT going to be a democracy, ever. No Muslim county can…it’s contrary. But if we can have a base for the BIG war I see coming….so be it!
