Most Dangerous Block In U.S.? Mail Delivery Halted

Dozens of mailboxes remain empty after the post office suspends service in one south suburban neighborhood. Some people get angry when their mail is late. But in Harvey, people have been waiting for days and days. They’re not getting any mail at all. CBS 2′s Dana Kozlov reports that one mail carrier in Harvey feels threatened.

The U.S. Post Office seems to think that this is one of the most dangerous blocks in the country. People who live on it say they haven’t gotten any mail delivered to their homes in almost two weeks.

Wait a minute! What happened to “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”? Yeah, I am aware that it’s not really the USPS creed, but ya grow up hearing it as such, you tend to believe it. Reckon no one factored in bullets.

“Between robberies and shootings and delayed police response, several things going on, that would make it unsafe,” said Harvey resident Venus Jones.

One of those shootings on the morning of October 10th reportedly happened yards away from the mail carrier. That’s when the mail stopped on Marshfield between 151st and 152nd streets, but the post office didn’t tell anyone.

“Some of the people didn’t even know that it was being held at the post office,” Jones said.

No offense, but don’t you think some would have noticed that they weren’t getting their mail?

Jones says someone from the post office told her they were going to put a cluster box for mail at the corner of 152nd and Marshfield. But she says that’s not a good idea.

“We have a lot of elderly people, a lot of older people that’s working, and for us to have to go to that corner to pick up our mail, that’s unsafe for us,” Jones said.

Where are the ‘community organizers’? Wouldn’t it be a good idea if some of those, so concerned about neighborhoods, to go into this area and help these elderly people? Now, personal opinion, I’d say a group of concerned ARMED citizens should be patrolling this neighborhood, with STK orders of course.

How does a neighborhood deteriorate to such a state?  Well, if there are no consequences for the thugs, it’s only natural that they’ll continue in their current activities.  Isn’t it interesting that this is a Democrat city, a Democrat county, and a Democrat state.  And isn’t it also interesting that the crime statistics are higher in Democrat areas?  Hmm….  Wonder what the connection might be.  (/sarcasm)

    Similar stuff going on in Milwaukee.

    Government checks come direct deposit.   Start putting them in the mail again, no one will touch a carrier.

    @HeatherRadish:

    Y’know, that’s not a bad idea. However, wouldn’t that have more attacks on carriers, if they are carrying checks? :?
