An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings
Does The Economy Really Suck?
Well, if it does, no one down here in Tunica got the word. Seriously, I had a tough time finding an empty seat at the slot machines. Forget it if you wanted to sit down to play any variety of poker, or craps. The only game there was any room was roulette, and that’s pretty much the norm. Does anyone really play roulette?
So, with everyone hurting so seriously financially, why are there so many people in the casinos? I’m not talking about the jewel dripping, high dollar, hoity toity types. I mean your every day, ordinary folks. Honestly, I saw a few who looked like they didn’t have two nickels to rub together, but there they were, shoving money into the one armed bandits, or throwing the dice.
We come down here for a few reasons. First off, it’s close. If you can drive 3 hours for a mini getaway, why not. Second, sometimes we just need a break. After this last week, we definitely NEEDED a break. Don’t get me started on my own idiocy. Third, why the heck not. It’s not like we’re obsessive gamblers. I know full well there are some folks that have gambling problems. “The BIG score is right around the corner.” Those people seriously need to get a grip on reality. Both of us know it’s just for fun. If we win a few bucks, that’s nice, but we don’t expect to go home with more than we came. Fourth, well, we don’t have cats crawling all over us in the middle of the night. No four legged child poking me in the nose, or sticking a paw in my mouth to wake me up so I can feed their furry little faces.
One other thing. I remember seeing some tidbit on the news, I think, about maybe one in four people don’t wash their hands after using the toity. After people watching today, I’d say it was more like 3 out of 4 don’t. Just an observation. And people really do chat on the phone while taking care of business. Jiminy crickets!
Nasty!

Slot machines = hope and change.
