An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Weekly News From Podunk
As previously stated, you’re going to have to take my word for it, or wait till next week to see it online.
Word for word, as typed….on the front page of the paper.
Holiday trimmings
Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative and city crews have been out in force, hanging the traditional Christmas decorations on utility poles along Savannah’s main thoroughfares to set a festive mood for the rapidly approaching Yule season. The Savannah Christmas parade is just 10 days away, and you have just over four weeks to shop for presents.
Bite me! I’m not ready! The season, no problem. It’s the shopping that has me flumuxed! Sad to say kiddos, it’s gonna be slim pickin’s around the ol’ broad’s abode this year!
City gives OK to townhouses
A townhouse development could be coming to your single-family residential neighborhood.
In accordance with Savannah’s growing popularity as a retirement community, the city commission this month gave final approval on an ordinance liberalizing zoning restrictions to allow townhouses in the low and medium density residential areas.
Retirement community???? Are they kidding? Why on earth…..?? Well, ok, if you say so. As retirees go, we’re fairly young, so I’m not real sure what the attraction would be for older folks, all scrunched up in townhouses.
TVA will roll back some of its rate hike
In the wake of declining fuel prices, TVA announced it will cut rates by around 6 percent as of Jan. 1
Because the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) is per kilowatt-hour hcarge, amounts that consumers will save depends on the amount of energy they use. While savings will vary across the Tennessee Valley, residential consumers can expect a decrease ranging from about $4 to $8 in their monthly power bills.
“Wow, Gomer! We’s can a’fode dat new fangled outhouse now, cain’t we’s!” Oh well, a few bucks here, a few bucks there….it does add up! Considering they raised the rates by TWENTY PERCENT!
Savannahian killed in Interstate crash
A Savannah woman was killed in a one-vehcle crash on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania on Sunday around noon, state police said.
Raginiben H. Patel, 29 was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle in which she was a passenger went off a snow- and slush-covered road, up an embankment and overturned on the guard rail.
Sincere prayers with the family.
Grand Jury indicts 67 people
The Hardin County grand jury met Monday and returned 58 all true bills and indicting 67 defendants on charges ranging from murder to sex crimes to drug and traffic offenses.
Charles Ken Qualls-first degree murder. Qualls, 52 is accused of shooting Charles E. Garrard in the head in a vehicle outside the defendant’s Water Street business, Savannah Furniture Exchange, on July 22. Qualls was Garrard’s employer.
Michael D. Bullock-robbery. Bullock, 43, is accused of forcibly taking $75 from a 73-year-old woman walking on Foursquare Street on June 28.
LOTS of drug related charges around here. Guess even in Podunk, we have our share of extreme morons. sigh…
HEY! How cool! They have the front page posted! If I had more time, I’d investigate further. Maybe they are taking my advice, and moving into the 21st century?
