Is this guy serious? Or is this a spoof?

Soother in Chief

When these frightful times of financial confusion and credit constipation become too much, I dial up Barack Obama on YouTube to suppress my anxieties. The Voice works like aerosolized Paxil on my limbic system, reducing my blood pressure and lifting my mood.

If this president thing doesn’t work out for him, I’m sure Obama could make a living recording evacuation tapes for the airline industry: “The aircraft … in which you are seated … is falling … at a rate that Bernoulli’s principle … can not overcome. … As we crash … into the tarmac … please remain calm … unbuckle your safety belts … and walk in an orderly fashion … to the marked exits … to deplane.”

Well, even in such an emergency, I’d be more likely to fall asleep if I had to listen to BO drone….saying NOTHING. But granted, he does that quite well.

For one thing, he’s better at remaining calmer and more deliberate in his speech patter than John Wayne in a firefight—and better at it than any politician since Ronald Reagan. If he’s calm, I’m calm—even if my portfolio was last sighted burning its way to the bottom of the Bentley Subglacial Trench.

Speech pattern? Uh…..umm….. uh…. HUH?

Continuity and this sort of “settledness” was a hallmark of Obama’s campaign, and that strategy has evolved during the post-election period. At the exceedingly short press conferences that follow the introduction of some new administration hire, Obama often answers by saying he’s answered that question before. Asked about the Iranian bomb on Nov. 7, he said, “Let me state—repeat what I stated during the course of the campaign.” “Well, let me repeat a couple of things,” he said on Dec. 11 when asked about Gov. Blagojevich’s contact with his staff. When that didn’t shake the reporters, he repeated his repetition. “In terms of our involvement, I’ll repeat what I said earlier, which is I had no contact with the governor’s office.”

Seriously, does ANYONE have a clue what he’s said……about ANYTHING?

Obama’s intelligence team entering new era in counter-terrorism

Obama and his spy chief nominees have promised a dramatic break with the policies of the Bush administration, largely by focusing attention on what they intend to undo — including shutting down the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, prison complex and ending the CIA’s use of “enhanced” interrogation techniques.

But the incoming administration has been less clear about what it will erect to replace those programs, which drew condemnation from much of the world but often were cited by Bush administration officials as key to keeping the country safe.

I hate to be the party pooper here, while so many are on their Obama high, but I’d like to point out that Mr. Obama hasn’t been “clear” on much of anything. You know, like how they’re going to get information, where they plan to send the pigs at Gitmo. Little things like that. I wonder if all his rich bubbies are planning to put the animals in their guest houses? Soros taking in a few?  Say what you will about Bush (I’ve probably said it m’self), but we didn’t have another 9/11 under his watch.

Palestinian leader urges Israel to accept truce

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said this morning that Israel must accept an Egyptian-brokered plan to end the fighting in the Gaza Strip or responsibility for the war will be on the Jewish state.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military said today that it would halt its fire in Gaza for three hours to allow the territory’s besieged residents to stock up.

It’s the third time Israel has halted its fire during its two-week ground and air offensive against Gaza’s Hamas rulers. Palestinian medical officials say more than 800 Palestinians have been killed, roughly half of them civilians.

One: Abbas is crying ‘uncle’. Coming from him, that doesn’t mean much, cuz he’s not in charge. Two: The Israelis has been allowing aid for the ‘besieged’, pretty much from the beginning. Three: When your ‘fighting force’ hides in schools and private homes, and fire their rockets from those positions, there are bound to be civilian casualties. Sad, but a fact. Shows just what cowards they truly are.

Legal immigrants battle red tape

Three months after the policy took effect, critics are pointing to a growing list of cases involving legal immigrants who have been significantly delayed or outright rejected in their efforts to get or renew licenses, despite being authorized to live and work legally in the U.S.

“I have always maintained my legal status,” Mehmood said. “It’s not fair to people who want to live here and follow the law.”

Under the policy change, only applicants who have documents showing they have permission to stay in the U.S. for at least six months are eligible for Texas driver’s licenses.

But immigration attorneys are reporting that people who meet that criterion — but are unable to produce documents required by the DPS to prove their legal status — are still being turned away.

Ok, this might be a  major pain in the hind end for legals, but I have to ask….why can’t they prove their legal status? If they come legally, doesn’t the gubmint give them the documentation? Wouldn’t that be something you’d keep safe? Kind of like having your birth certificate, or your social security card, in a safe place where you can get to them if you need them.  Put the blame where it is due….on the ILLEGALS!

Malki: Israel stoops to Hamas’s level

Hopes dimmed that the resolution approved Thursday would end the worst fighting in decades in Gaza after Israel rejected it as “not practical” and Hamas dismissed it, complaining that it had not been consulted.

“Both have responded to the resolution in the same way, in total disrespect,” Malki said.

He said the US, Britain and France worked hard to ensure that the resolution did not give Hamas, which has called for the destruction of the Jewish state, equal status with Israel, a sovereign nation.

You’ll have to excuse me while I chuckle at this knucklehead. Respect for the U.N.? And please, tell me, why should the Palies been granted equal status with Israel? It hasn’t been the Israelis firing rockets for the last 8 years. As a matter of fact, they’ve shown a great deal more restrain that I would have in similar circumstance. Israel MUST finish the job. Destroy Hamas, and free Gaza from their murderous rule!

Six pirates drowned leaving supertanker

Six of our boys perished at the sea while coming from the released Saudi supertanker” Mohamed Said said.

Their boat had capsized after freeing the vessel and its crew, he said via telephone from Harardhere, 300km north of Mogadishu.

Four other pirates had also gone missing after the kidnapping ended, he said.

Gee, can’t ya tell? I’m just all broken up over their demise!

Review of TVA sites sought after 2nd spill

“The Tennessee Valley Authority has a lot to answer for,” said Boxer, a Democrat who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that held a hearing Thursday on TVA’s massive coal ash spill Dec. 22 at the Kingston Fossil Plant.

“The first step is to prevent further spills and damage to communities around its plants. I have asked the TVA for a complete assessment of the safety of its waste disposal sites and their plans for upgrading those sites. This second pollution spill must be a wake-up message to the TVA and to the U.S. (Environmental Protection Agency) that the current situation is unacceptable.”

Nothing like stating the obvious. Of course it’s unacceptable! I’d like to know why TVA wasn’t out inspecting the sites after the first catastrophe! Why wait till a second spill happens to get it in gear? Honestly, I’d like to know why they ALLOWED the first one to happen at all! They could have prevented it, but I guess that half mil pay raise was a WHOLE lot more important than the safety of folks living near the ‘ponds’.

Babies in Bulgaria suffer as Gazprom delays energy deal

While Russia and Ukraine found new ways to disagree about restoring gas supplies to Europe yesterday mothers and their newborn infants huddled into the one maternity ward left with any heating in the main hospital in Sofia.

Shops in the Bulgarian capital have run out of electric heaters and families scoured the city for help to keep warm as temperatures fell to minus 20C (-4F).

Ya know all those billions in bailout money? How ’bout we use that to buy blankets for the hospitals? I’ve no doubt those new mothers would be a hell of a lot more appreciative than the weasels that are sucking our coffers dry.

Tiny Town’s Request for $375M Slice of Stimulus Sparks Uproar

A tiny Alabama town has withdrawn its request for $375 million in funding from the government’s economic stimulus package after many people were angry that so much of the money would go to a town with a population of 194 people, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Edwardsville, Ala., located near the Georgia border, originally asked for $375,076,200 to fund “green energy” projects that included a renewable energy museum, scenic railroad, solar-powered lights and vineyards that would affect about 80,000 people, the town claims.

“I know we look like some little Podunk town, and by the Census, we are,” E. D. Phillips, the town’s representative to the U.S. Conference of Mayors, told U.S. News. “But we really think we’ve done some amazingly progressive things in the past two years.”

Seems to me that if those yahoos really want a ‘renewable energy museum’, they could have bake sales, etc, to raise money. See, this is just ONE of the many reasons I’m totally against this bailout BS, that should NEVER have started in the first place! And yes, you are just a Podunk town, just like we are!

Verse of the Day

1 John 5:4-6

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
