Real Community Support For a Soldier

With all the hoopla going on with the site, and a cell phone with a bad attitude, I completely zoned this.   Apologies to Sue!

NFdL neighbors assist Army reservist

If not for having to sign a building permit, U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Karen Sweeney would have been surprised to find a new 24-foot by 24-foot garage on her property at 616 Michigan Ave., North Fond du Lac.

The new garage replaces a run-down, one-car, 19-foot by 19-foot garage that was at the site when she left in January 2008 for Kandahar, Afghanistan — her second tour of duty overseas. Sweeney is with the 395th Ordnance Company from Appleton, but her unit was assigned to the 221st Ordnance Company.

Karen’s mom, Sue, is a real good friend of ours.  Matter of fact, she was really the only person in Waupun who befriended me.  Neither of us were ‘natives’, so I guess that’s what drew us together.  That, and the fact I finally got her trained to cut my hair the way I wanted it.  Dang!  I miss that woman!  Heh.  Not just cuz of the hair, but because she’s a really good person.

Sue and her husband raised some terrific kids, Karen just being one of them.  Their son was also in the service and was stationed in Iraq.

Wouldn’t it be nice if more of us were able to show this kind of appreciation for our service men and women?  True, it’s not something most of us can do, but there are other ways to show our appreciation.  Donating to the USO, signing up to send packages to them, giving to a variety of Vets organizations are just 3 ways we can give them our support.

Murder Spree by People Who Refuse to Ask For Directions

In a front-page article on Jan. 2 of this year, The New York Times took a brief respite from its ongoing canonization of Barack Obama and returned to its series on violent crimes committed by returning GIs, or as I call it: “U.S. Military, Psycho Killers.”

The Treason Times’ banner series about Iraq and Afghanistan veterans accused of murder began in January last year but was quickly discontinued as readers noticed that the Times doggedly refused to provide any statistics comparing veteran murders with murders in any other group.

So they waited a year, hoping readers wouldn’t notice they were still including no relevant comparisons.

Obama inauguration to air in theaters

President-elect Barack Obama is on his way to the big screen, thanks to a deal between MSNBC and Screenvision that will put the news channel’s inaugural coverage in 27 theaters around the country.

Free tickets are being handed out via MSNBC.com to see the inauguration and parade from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. ET at the 27 theaters run by 11 exhibitor partners in 21 markets. Midday Tuesday isn’t necessarily a big movie time, so it helps to fill the theater — and boost popcorn and soda sales — at a time when it’s not usually busy.

That means that Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews and other MSNBC and NBC personalities will play the big movie screen in addition to the usual MSNBC cable and satellite stream. MSNBC won’t be in high-definition until the second quarter, but both the channel and Screenvision say the quality will still be high.

“It’ll look great,” MSNBC president Phil Griffin said. “We’re thrilled about it.”

Got tingles running up your leg?

Good heavens! What the hell is with these people?  This is getting absolutely ridiculous.  If we are suppose to take this man seriously as President of the United States, his drooling acolytes really must get a grip on themselves.  And that includes the freakin’ media!  They are making this whole thing a bigger joke than it actually is, at the expense of the American people.

The Obamamobile: The first official photograph of Obama’s new armoured limo,

which he will ride in for part of the swearing-in parade,

and which can withstand rocket and chemical attacks.

Uh, ok.  Well, you know, I’m all for keeping the POTUS safe (even BO), but calling it “The Obamamobile”?  Jeeeez.  Does that mean no one will be able to use it after he’s voted out in 2012?

Vetting stumble? Treasury nominee underpaid taxes

President-elect Barack Obama’s pick to head the Treasury Department met behind closed doors with a Senate panel late Tuesday in a bid to save his nomination amid revelations that he’d underpaid taxes and briefly employed a foreign-born housekeeper whose immigration papers had expired.

Timothy Geithner, the president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank since November 2003, hasn’t had a Senate confirmation hearing scheduled. Late Tuesday it became clear why.

If this guy was nominated by anyone else, he would have been ripped to shreds. But since he is a nominee of THE ONE, no big deal, right? Well, I hate to tell ya this, but it IS a big deal. If the guy can’t pay attention to his own finances, why, for the love of pete, should we trust him with OUR money?

The Treasury-designee also explained that he was unaware at the time that he kept a housekeeper on his family payroll for three months in 2005 after her immigration documents had expired. That employee, he said, has since married a U.S. citizen and now holds a green card.

Why am I seriously suspicious of this ‘marriage’? Why am I so completely suspicious of EVERY nominee The Great and Wonderful O has thrown at us?

“He made a common mistake on his taxes, and was unaware that his part-time housekeeper’s work authorization expired for the last three months of her employment,” incoming White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. “We hope that the Senate will confirm him with strong bipartisan support so that he can begin the important work of the country.”

I would suggest that every single member of the Senate think real long and hard about confirming such a person. Yeah, people make mistakes, but it seems to me that every one of BO’s nominees has major issues. I don’t see ANY of them putting the needs of this country first!

TVA ordered to pay for spill review

The Bredesen administration’s top environmental regulator this week ordered TVA to cooperate fully with the state’s review of the Kingston coal ash disaster and ash storage at other sites, and told the power utility it must cover all the state’s costs for the review.

Besides demanding that the Tennessee Valley Authority to do all in its power to contain and limit downstream damage from the Dec. 22 spill, the 14-page order by Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke sent Monday also calls for a detailed corrective action plan for cleanup within 45 days.

No where in this article did I see where TVA was told they could NOT pass along the cost to the consumer, either for the report, or the clean up. So, guess what, boys and girls! YOU, and I, are likely going to be paying for their fecklessness! Yay us.

Colorado hires amid freeze

Ritter’s rules say the freeze does not apply to health and safety positions, jobs caring for state wards or required by caseload demands, or positions that, unfilled, would disrupt an “essential state function” or present legal liabilities.

Among the health care providers and criminal investigators that were granted exemptions were less obvious matches for those criteria: two contract lobbyists, a scratch-off lottery ticket salesperson, seasonal potato inspectors and a bevy of administrative assistants.

I dunno. Is it just me, or do lobbyists not fall into the category of “essential”.

Aide stole $300 from dying woman

Convicted of stealing $300 from a dying brain cancer patient, a home health aide was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail for a theft a DuPage County judge called “despicable.”

Marilyn Recto, 22, took the money from a 56-year-old Addison woman whose husband was out making funeral arrangements and checking burial plots for her last March. When he got home, he noticed a container of collectible coins was missing and called police.

So many home health workers are just fantastic! Then, one like this comes along, and you are suspicious of all of them. A real class act that one. Well, there is a special place in hell for folks like her. I hope she enjoys it, cuz she’ll be there a REAL long time.  The fact that she was given community service….well, that just doesn’t cut it in my book.  But this is Blagoland after all.

Detainee Was Tortured, a Bush Official Confirms

The senior Pentagon official in the Bush administration’s system for prosecuting detainees said in a published interview that she had concluded that interrogators had tortured a Guantánamo detainee who has sometimes been described as “the 20th hijacker” in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Seriously? I don’t care! We’re talking about a murderous piece of excrement here, who would slit your throat in a heart beat. The type of animal that has no problem blowing up children. So, seriously, who gives a flying flip!  And yes, I do have a serious lack of compassion for these pigs.  Your point?

Ban: Sides should abide by UN resolution

“All the member states of the United Nations have an obligation to abide by UNSC resolutions,” he said during a press conference following a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. “[They] are binding in their nature, and I urge the Israeli leaders – as I have until now- to abide by this, to cease military operations, ensure a ceasefire, and engage in humanitarian assistance.”

“My call is [for] an immediate end to violence in Gaza, and then to the Israeli military offensive and a halt to rocket attacks by Hamas,” the secretary-general said.

You’d think that the yahoos at the UN would have noticed just how irrelevant they really are. Nope. Their ego knows no bounds.  I didn’t notice them insisting the Palies stop firing rockets into Israel for the last 8 years.  Why should Israel cave, for just defending themselves, and wanting to put a stop the constant bombardment?  Well, they shouldn’t!

Coronation Street bosses spark outrage after hiding cross for church wedding scene – to avoid offending non-Christians

The cross was bolted down, so the soap’s producers hid it behind candles and flowers for the scene, which was screened on Monday.

Rev Milnes said: ‘I can’t imagine how people would be offended. It’s a church – you expect to see a cross in there.

‘You would expect to see the Koran in a film of a mosque, a menorah in a film of a synagogue and similarly a cross when filming a Christian church.’

I’m getting extremely fed up with the PC BS.  These clowns have no problem offending Christians, worldwide.   The Brits have been taken over, and what’s so sad, they allowed it to happen.

Insurgents attack Somali presidential palace

Islamic insurgents fired mortar rounds at Somalia’s presidential palace and clashed with government forces Wednesday, leaving at least five civilians dead a day after Ethiopian troops handed over security duties.

Government soldiers retaliated after the attack on the palace and some of their mortar rounds hit the capital’s largest market, Bakara, said Farah Mumin, a salesman at the market who said he saw three civilians killed and nine others wounded.

“The scene was very horrific and everyone ran from the market, some of them leaving their shops open,” said Fadumo Sahal, another witness.

Seems pretty clear to me….left to their own devices, Somali Muslims are going to work even harder to destroy their country, and anyone who stands in their way.

Verse of the Day

Habakkuk 2:18-20

18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

20 But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
