Front Page News From Podunk

22 January 2009, 10:29 pm. Comments Off. Filed under General News, Tennessee.

I seem to have skipped last week’s News From Podunk.  No doubt, y’all were seriously disappointed, right?

Seriously, if you’ve been around for a bit, you’ll know I had some REAL good reasons.  So, without further ado….here’s the update from our corner of Tennessee.

Two school plan gets an OK

In late breaking news, the Hardin County Commission voted 16-4 to proceed with a $38.5 million plan that will build two new schools, improve five and close five.

Still, the plan is not yet a done deal.

I’ll be perfectly honest, in this economy, I do NOT understand why they feel the need to close any schools, to build new ones.  This county is fairly spread out, and the idea that kids are going to have to get up even earlier to stand out waiting for a bus….well, it just doesn’t seem right.  How many new buses is the school board going to have to buy?  How much for maintenance?  How much in fuel costs?  Wouldn’t it be smarter to update the existing schools?  Just a thought.

Plan includes upgrades for other schools

In addition to constructing two new schools, the Hardin County Board of Education’s $38.5 million school plan also includes the following upgrades for existing facilities that are not to be closed:

Middle School

*Add five new classrooms and additional rest room, storage and electrical facilities.

*Secure breezeway between existing gym and lunch room.

*Modify existing classrooms for better use and security.

And the list goes on for the other schools.  Well, some of the updates, I can understand.  However, I do have to ask….how did kids survive without breezeways?

School issue draws pro-con crowd

Concerned citizens packed the Hardin County Commission’s meeting room to express their views-both pro and con-on a $38.5 million school construction, consolidation and renovation plan.

Hardin County Mayor Kevin Davis said earlier that he is “endorsing the (school) board’s proposal for what it represent for all our students.  It’s the right thing to do for the county.”

And this is the best part:

Regarding funding and financing for the school board’s proposal, Mayor Davis told The Courier it is “too early” to discuss specifics, but indicated he did not believe a large property tax would be necessary.  He said also he would approach the city of Savannah for possible assistance.

Really now.  No ‘large’ property tax, eh?  Which, of course, in politician speak, means there WILL be a property tax increase.  If you know anything about Hardin County, you’ll know that this is not a wealthy county.  There aren’t too many folks here who can really financially stand a tax increase, on top of all the sales taxes too.  Makes NO sense at all.

Better be sober at roadblocks

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting sobriety checkpoint roadblocks in Hardin “County on Friday, Jan. 23, the state Department of Safety announced.

Silly question:  Why do they announce when they’re going to have checkpoints?  Wouldn’t they catch more drunk drivers if they didn’t give them warning?  Just wondering.

Woman makes bomb threat

A bomb threat emptied the Hardin County Courthouse Tuesday afternoon.

“Some woman called in at 1:45 p.m. and made a threat,” said Hardin County Mayor Kevin Davis.

The all-clear was given at 2:50 p.m. after officers from the Savannah Police Department, county Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department searched the building for anything suspicious and turned up nothing, he said.

How much ya wanna bet some yahoo didn’t want to make their court date, and had someone make such a stupid call?  Or something similar.  There are no shortage of morons, no matter where ya are these days.

And there ya go!  All the front page goings on in Podunk.

Change

22 January 2009, 8:08 pm. 3 Comments. Filed under Crime, Faith, Feckless Weasels.

Well, it seems B. Hussein was right.  He IS going to change things around.  Although, I’m sure there are those who might find this a good idea, I, for one, am NOT!

Just one item from the White House’s new interloper:

Expand Hate Crimes Statutes: In 2004, crimes against LGBT Americans constituted the third-highest category of hate crime reported and made up more than 15 percent of such crimes. President Obama cosponsored legislation that would expand federal jurisdiction to include violent hate crimes perpetrated because of race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical disability. As a state senator, President Obama passed tough legislation that made hate crimes and conspiracy to commit them against the law.

How long will it be before my pastor is thrown in prison for preaching from the Bible?  How long before your pastor, or priest, is doing time for speaking the Word of God?

How long before anyone who knows homosexuality is a sin, is standing in a Federal Court, accused of ‘hate crimes’?

Leviticus 18:22  Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

No He Can’t

22 January 2009, 6:52 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Opinion.

This column by Anne Wortham, was published on 6 November 2008, 2 days after the election.  I thought it would be a good idea to do a copy and paste here.

No He Can’t

Fellow Americans,

Please know: I am black; I grew up in the segregated South. I did not vote for Barack Obama; I wrote in Ron Paul’s name as my choice for president. Most importantly, I am not race conscious. I do not require a black president to know that I am a person of worth, and that life is worth living. I do not require a black president to love the ideal of America.

Why were there only 5 Republicans voting against a tax cheater?  Better question:  Why did 3 vote FOR?

Roe V Wade

22 January 2009, 6:01 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Crime, Life.

Thirty six years ago, today, the Supreme Court of the United States decided to play ‘god’.  It is not a day to rejoice, it is a day to cry.  Cry for the MILLIONS of slaughtered babies that will never have the chance to grown up to be President, or find a cure for cancer, or write the great American novel.   No, today should be a day of national mourning.

It’s a life, not a choice.

Description
Senator Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, making him the first African-American to win the nomination of a major political party. Thousands of supporters gathered at Invesco Field share the moment. Obama’s historic speech also coincides with the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s ”I Have a Dream” speech.

Now, please! Someone explain to me just HOW they can associate “Flags of Our Fathers” with that overblown spectacle of B. Hussein’s acceptance speech?????  What, on God’s green earth, would give Amazon an idea that I, who has bought books by CONSERVATIVE authors, would be interested in watching the ascension of THE One????  I wouldn’t give you 2 cents for that fiasco, much less $14.95.

Setting A Few Things Straight

22 January 2009, 4:52 pm. 31 Comments. Filed under 1st Amendment, Blog Stuff, Feckless Weasels, Opinion.

Warning! Words I don’t normally use, are quoted here.

I have something to say, directly to the rude docweasel.  Evidently, you don’t come around here too often.  If you did, you would KNOW I give no one a pass, but I am polite.  And I noticed that, while you are free to leave comments here,  on MY site, you do not return the favor and allow comments on YOUR post, after insulting me.

I was born and bred in THE South.  Obviously, that means nothing to you, as ‘gentleman’ or ‘lady’ seem to be lacking in your vocabulary.  What I learned growing up, is quite the opposite of what you are advising REAL conservatives, and REAL Christians to do.  It’s that whole honey and vinegar thing, but then again, I’m sure that would be lost on you as well.

First, everyone is free to express their opinion.  I don’t have to agree with them.  I don’t see a REAL conservative trying to stop others from expressing their opinion.  You see, THAT is what the liberals want, and I’m not going to stoop to their level.

Second, I do not see the need to use numerous four lettered words to express my opinion.  THAT is what the liberals do when they are unable to counter a logical argument.  I do not see the point of personal attacks, calling any of my commenters vulgar names, or when I visit someone else’s site, the host.

Third, a REAL Christian will be praying for B. Hussein.  Praying he will see the Light, and stop thinking he IS the light.  I pray daily that B. Hussein’s policies will fail, and this country will return to the foundations that made it great.

Fourth, at NO time did I ever say I would be rolling over and playing dead.  Nor, is that what I gleaned from the post you reference.  Civility is an art, one which you seem to be sorely lacking.  If you had bothered to read the comments I made, you would have read:   Well, never said I was going to follow it all.

I will continue fighting ‘progressive’ policies, pointing out their destructiveness, WITHOUT saying “fuck Obama“, or calling people “cocksuckers” or “pussies“.  Very classy there doc.  What this tells me is that you have a limited use of the English language, rather exactly like those violent types on the far left.  You remind me very much of a “progressive” I encountered at a pro-Bush rally before the 2004 election.  He, too, was such an “intellectual” and proved it by spitting in my face, stomping on my foot, and screaming obscenities at a little 8 year old girl.  Way to go.

Now, if you don’t like that….you can kiss my over sized white ass!

If It Weren’t For Bad Luck…..

22 January 2009, 12:42 am. 2 Comments. Filed under Travel.

….yada yada yada.

Well, we came down here, not expecting to get rich, but y’know….a cherry once in a while would have been nice.  Sheesh!  Before we headed downstairs, I had to call and ask for a roll of TP.  Aren’t they suppose to notice if you’re just about out?  It’s not like this is an optional item, right?  I told them it would be just fine if they sat it in the bathroom.  Well, when we came back up, what do ya think was hanging on our door?  Yup….you got it!  A bloomin’ roll of toilet paper.  How classy.  :?

One bright spot of the evening was dinner.  Fried Bugs!  As in Bunny….not the icky six legged creatures.  That was some good eatin’!

Other than that, not much to get excited about.  Welp, tomorrow we’ll head back to reality, and our two remaining four legged children, who may, or may not, acknowledge our existence for a few days.  They have attitude.
