Lawmaker admits he negotiated for position

Republican state Rep. Brian Kelsey acknowledged Thursday that he offered to tone down attacks against new House Speaker Kent Williams in exchange for a committee chairmanship.

Kelsey, R-Germantown, said he sent a text message to a Williams aide that said, “Tell Kent I’m willing to talk about reconciliation if he’s willing to talk about chairman of the full committee.”

Kelsey didn’t get a committee chairmanship, but Williams did appoint him as chairman of a subcommittee.

House Minority Leader Gary Odom, D-Nashville, says Kelsey’s offer amounts to “extortion,” and called for him to resign.

I watched this guy on the news, and it didn’t sound like he admitted anything to me. Then there is his response in the comments section of the article. What’s interesting are the responses to his response.  I don’t know this Kelsey guy, from the looks of him, he can’t be more than 12….ok, maybe 16, but I’m fairly sure that this is not the first time some politician, wrong or right, has offered something in return for something else.  Seems to me, it’s a forgone conclusion that this will happen.  I also find it interesting that the timeline of the said events appear to be left out in the story.

Colo. man accused of threatening Obama surrenders

The indictment says a second e-mail threatened to blow up the mall with 40 pounds of C4 explosive and TNT planted on seven cars parked outside.

“Good luck thank you and God bless the you know the rest time is wasting,” the e-mail read, according to the indictment.

In an interview Thursday, Gutierrez told the Cortez Journal that the threat against Obama was just a prank because the president misrepresented himself.

“I’m not mad about him becoming president, but he’s not doing what he said he was going to do,” he said. “He’s not doing anything for the lower class — just the middle and upper class. Medications are going up, not lowering, and jobs are being lost. His actions are going to get him in trouble.”

Two things here. If that particular email is perceived as a ‘threat’, we’ve got some SERIOUS problems coming our way. I can only assume that it is not the one that caused the hoopla. Second, odds are, you’re going to see a lot more of the Kool Aid drinkers losing ‘faith’. The man has only been in office less than two weeks, and he’s already working toward destroy the foundations of the nation. I guess idea of not having to work to pay the mortgage and buy gas was taken way to seriously by some.

Prop. 8 campaign can’t hide donors’ names

Proposition 8 proponents’ complaint that a California campaign-finance disclosure law has led to harassment of same-sex marriage opponents failed to sway a federal judge, who refused Thursday to throw out the law or shield donors’ names.

“If there ever needs to be sunshine on a particular issue, it’s a ballot measure,” U.S. District Judge Morrison England said after a one-hour hearing in his Sacramento courtroom.

In California, this decision was a foregone conclusion. Will the donors from the opposition side have their names and addresses published for all to see? Or is it just those who believe in the sanctity of marriage who are to be targeted. I wonder which sideof the issue the judge was on?

O SENDS ANGRY ME$$AGE

President Obama delivered a blistering message to Wall Street yesterday, blasting the big-bucks bonuses doled out to fat-cat execs as “shameful.”

Obama called reporters in to the Oval Office to express outrage over a report on Wednesday by New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli that corporate employees were paid more than $18 billion in bonuses despite the worst economic crisis in decades.

*gritting teeth* He’s right! The actions by the ‘fatcats’ was totally irrisponsible.  Would you give a brain surgeon a big bonus for killing his patients?  Of course not, so why, pray tell, did these high ups get fat bonuses for running their companies into the ground, and taking the economy with them?  It’s my understanding that bonuses are for ‘a job well done’, not for doing a majorly crappy one.

Gazans get aid, blame Hamas for situation

A Hamas cabinet minister carried a carton stuffed with checks worth nearly $2 million into a Gaza tent camp pitched on the ruins of the Salam neighborhood, close to the Israeli border.

But before hundreds of homeless residents could collect, they had to listen to a political speech. Social Affairs Minister Ahmed al-Kurd told them Israel’s military machine was defeated and that the Hamas government would rebuild their neighborhood bigger and better.

“There’s a lot of talk,” resident Zayed Khader, 45, said after the speech, as he waited for his name to be called so he could pick up relief checks worth a total of $6,000 for his family of nine. “When I see them actually building my house, I’ll say these are good words.”

Who was the genius who thought it would be a good idea to hand millions over to the bunch who brought about the destruction?  Hamas yahoos can say they ‘won’, all they want, but it won’t change the reality.

Danforth adds voice to unanswered appeal for U.S. special envoy

Obama, who took office last week, has repeatedly voiced his intention to “end genocide,” which is largely a reference to Darfur. But thus far he has not appointed a special envoy for Sudan, leaving the role vacant after the departure of Bush’s most recent envoy, Richard Williamson.

BHO doesn’t give a happy flip about the millions of babies he’s sentenced to death….what on earth makes these people believe he cares about the thousands being slaughtered in Sudan?

2 Memphis police officers charged in separate investigations

Two Memphis police officers were walked to squad cars in handcuffs Thursday after their arrests in separate criminal investigations.

Both men were jailed and relieved of duty with pay pending administrative hearings.

“Corruption has no place in the Memphis Police Department,” said Director Larry Godwin. “As far as I’m concerned, that’s two criminals off the streets.”

I’m starting to wonder which is worse when it comes to corruption….Chicago, New Orleans, or Memphis.

Obama cheers Congress over children’s health bill

“Providing health care to more than ten million children through the Children’s Health Insurance Program will serve as a down payment on my commitment to ensure that every American has access to quality, affordable health care.”

The measure is similar to legislation twice vetoed by President George W. Bush, and is another building block in attempts by Obama’s Democrats to roll back the former US leader’s Republican agenda.

The bill, which earlier passed by 289 votes to 139 in the House, renews the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), preserving healthcare coverage for seven million children and extends it to four million who were uninsured.

It is paid for partly by raising the tax on tobacco, among other measures, a move which the bill’s advocates say will have the added benefit of discouraging more than a million children from taking up smoking.

One more step in the nanny state.  It is not the government’s job to provide health care.  They screw up everything else, and they’ll screw this up too, with an overbloated bureaucracy.  Question:  If smokers are taxed out of existence, who is going to pay the bill?

Senate Republicans May Use Filibuster to Block Stimulus

Republican senators who oppose the $819 billion economic stimulus plan passed in the House Wednesday declined to say whether they personally would lead a filibuster to try to stop the legislation in the Senate. But they said a filibuster is an option and they are developing a strategy to stop the bill.

The House bill passed 244 to 188. No Republicans voted for the legislation and 11 Democrats also opposed it. As this story went to press, GOP senators indicated they were working on a coordinated plan with Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) and that a filibuster is a possible part of that plan.

Images of Jimmy Stewart pop into my head. I wonder if they coordinated the effort, took turns reading the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, the Bible…things like that, yielding to ONLY those who would take up the banner…..would it work?

Philippians 4:4-7

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Illinois Governor Impeachment

Illinois Senate Kicks Blagojevich Out of Office

Illinois senators stripped Rod Blagojevich of power Thursday in the final act of a political drama filled with twists and turns that will likely end Blagojevich’s political career and hand the reins of state government over to Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn.

Senators voted unanimously to convict Blagojevich, 59-0. The outcome was never in doubt. In fact, Quinn went to the state Capitol earlier in the day in preparation of being sworn in immediately after the vote.

Ya might find this a little odd, but in a way, I kind of feel sorry for the little big haired weasel. Not sure why, but there’s this odd little twinge. Oh, wait a minute….it’s just a little indigestion. Where’s the Maalox?

Ambassador Rooney?

Dan Rooney called front-runner for ambassador to Ireland

Dan Rooney’s friends are encouraging the Steelers owner to pursue the ambassadorship to Ireland, said a former ambassador there who believes Rooney would be “great for America” in that role.

The Irish Times, a Dublin newspaper, reported that Rooney is among the front-runners to succeed Thomas Foley in the post, along with Caroline Kennedy and AFL-CIO President John Sweeney. The White House declined comment, and Rooney could not be reached.

0128rooney-b

No offense to Mr Rooney, but is a sports team owner really all that qualified to be a diplomat?  Seriously, none of the “front runners” really wind my watch, but a football team owner?  Hmmm….

Hey….I’ve got ancestors from Ireland too….maybe I could be the ambassor?  Sounds like a good idea to me.  I’m just as qualified, and I like Ireland.  :P

Ethics committee won’t take up complaint against Kent Williams

“It was the verdict first, and then no trial,” he said. “The explanation that the ethics committee doesn’t have jurisdiction over ethics is laughable, if it weren’t such a tragedy.”

Harwell said that the ethics committee was not the correct venue to bring the complaint, and that moreover, the incidents that were the subject of the complaint had been properly resolved two years ago, when they arose.

“I do think that the procedure of bringing it before the ethics committee was the wrong place to bring it,” she said.

The more I read about the doings in Nashville, the more I suspect that the whining baby boomer generation, and our offspring, are in need a bit good old fashioned spanking! I’m not thrilled at the way the Williams guy was put in place. But I also don’t think it was Kelsey’s place to bring the complaint. Naturally, the left leaning Tennessean goes out of their way to placate the Dhimms.

Obama Courts Senate Republicans for Stimulus

President Barack Obama’s $819 billion economic stimulus package is headed for the Senate after a surprisingly partisan vote in the House in which Republicans united in opposition and 11 mostly conservative Democrats defected.

Well, I don’t know why it’s so ‘surprising’ that the R’s voted against such a ridiculous bill. Well, with as many RINO there are, running around, I guess it IS a bit of a surprise. Perhaps, they’re getting the picture? Naw…. They’d have to have common sense. Which explains why the Dhimmis are so gung ho on this bill. No common sense!

W. Pa. center entangled in judges’ scheme

A company owned by a prominent Pittsburgh businessman is at the center of a federal investigation into a kickback scheme involving two Luzerne County judges.

President Judge Mark Ciavarelli Jr. and Judge Michael T. Conahan agreed this week to plead guilty to criminal charges they accepted $2.6 million to steer delinquent children to juvenile detention centers, according to an agreement filed in U.S. District Court in Scranton.

The detention centers are owned by Pennsylvania Child Care, which operates a facility in Pittston, and Western Pennsylvania Child Care, which runs a center in Butler County.

The first question that popped into my head…..are judges elected or appointed in PA? So, I looked it up. As best I can tell, they are elected. Now, from a state that keeps re-electing John Murtha and Arlen Specter…..why am I not surprised that they would also elect a few judges of the criminal mind?  That might be an unfair assessement on the whole state, but…..

Dallas likely to pay for 500 homes for homeless

The Dallas City Council has agreed that taxpayers should help fund the construction of 700 permanent housing units for homeless people who need consistent support to get off the streets.

Though council members haven’t yet committed any money to the plan, their vote Wednesday signaled that they intend to use city money to pay for about 500 of the 700 units within the next five years. Federal funds will pay for about 200.

Putting it right there, in front, I do NOT want to see people living on the streets. But is it really the job of city government to use the sparse tax dollars in such a manner? This is why people give to charities. So they can actually HELP those who need it, and want it. Many of the homeless are drunks and drug addicts who don’t WANT to be ‘helped’. For families that have hit hard times, there are many charitable organizations that are more than willing to lend a helping hand. One other thing, on my recent trip to Dallas, I saw a large empty field where once a large apartment complex stood. May I ask why, if Dallas is so keen to ‘do something’, do they not purchase buildings that are already in existence, and with perhaps some repairs, use those for housing the homeless? Just wondering. Seems it would save a WHOLE lot of money for the taxpayers.

UN trying to raise $613m. in Gaza aid

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said help is indeed urgently needed. He says he was deeply moved by his visit to Gaza and that he gave his word that the UN would help.

Speaking to reporters at the World Economic Forum on Thursday, Ban said the appeal covers the requirements of UN and other aid organizations for the next six to nine months, and will help provide everything from medical care to clean water.

He added that an appeal for longer-term needs would be launched later.

……..shhh…..I’m thinking. Trying to remember if EVER there was an appeal from the Useless Numnuts to aid Israel after Hamas, or any of the other pigs, attacked, destroyed and murdered innocents. Nope. Can’t think of a single incident. If there was one, could someone please clue me in? I’d much appreciate it. Hey….Numnuts……

Stimulus bill expected to benefit Memphis-area schools, police

Memphis City Schools, Shelby County Schools and the Memphis Police Department are likely to be major beneficiaries of a funding stimulus measure that passed the House Wednesday night.

The city schools are expected to collect $100.1 million this year and $148.1 million in 2010 under terms of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Of that, more than $75 million will be for retrofitting, modernizing and weatherizing schools, according to an estimate made by the office of U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn.

If you’ve ever watched the evening news out of Memphis, you might come to the same conclusion I have. NO amount of money is going to do diddly for those schools until someone gets a grip on the discipline.  What would be the point of ‘modernizing’ if the little darlin’s are just going to destroy it….once again?

Ford loses $5.9B in 4Q, won’t seek aid

Ford Motor Co. said Thursday it lost $5.9 billion in the fourth quarter and burned through $5.5 billion in cash as sales slumped, but the company still says it does not plan to seek federal loans.

The second-largest U.S. automaker said it lost $2.46 per share, compared with a loss of $2.8 billion, or $1.13 per share, for the year-ago period.

Y’know….I’m really starting to rethink my personal boycott on Ford. I’m gaining a new respect for them, so if they are still around when I get my truck, I’m thinking a Ranger. Hey…why do I need a HUGE one. The little one will do just fine for my needs. :P

NO Letter!

29 January 2009, 10:17 am. Comments Off. Filed under Feckless Weasels, Iran, Middle East, Moonbats & Other Animals, The ONE.

‘US drafts conciliatory letter to Iran’

The Obama administration is preparing a letter to Iran intended to warm relations and pave the way for direct talks between Washington and Teheran, The Guardian reported Thursday.

Work on the document reportedly began immediately following the November election, upon receipt of a letter of congratulations sent to the elected president by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Diplomats quoted by the paper said the letter, which has seen several drafts so far, would aim to change the US tone towards Iran and offer a different stance on relations between the nations. In it, Obama would seek to assure Teheran that the US is not interested in toppling the Islamic regime, but only to see a change in its conduct.

One of the drafts reportedly calls on the Iranian leader to note the superior standards of living in neighboring countries and consider the advantages of lifting the Islamic Republic’s pariah status in the international community.

A suck up and a put down. I’ve no doubt that would go over REAL well with Ahmadinnerjacket.

While its tone is described as conciliatory, the letter also calls on Iran to stop sponsoring terror.

Well, Jiminy Crickets, why not just ask the earth to stop spinning and the sun to stop rising in the east? This is what Iran does. It ‘sponsors’ terror.

Javanfekr also dismissed UN resolutions demanding Iran suspend uranium enrichment. “We have passed that stage. We have rejected resolutions. Those resolutions were issued under US pressure. We work in the framework of international laws.”

“Obama should act realistically to avoid repeating [former US president George W.] Bush’s mistakes,” he added.

Three rounds of UN sanctions have been imposed on Iran but Javanfekr said they were “ineffective.”

And this is a surprise? EVERYTHING the Useless Numnuts do is ‘ineffective’.

Referring to the Obama administration’s suggestion of direct talks, Javanfekr said, “We are ready for talks with some preconditions … including ending America’s military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan,” he said and repeated the demand for an apology.

The U.S. owes NO ONE an apology, especially Iran!  Perhaps we should also apologize to France for saving their sorry asses in WWII?

Ahmadinejad also urged Washington to withdraw its troops stationed around the world. He said Iran would be closely watching what President Barack Obama’s new administration does and would welcome a real shift in the US approach.

Ya know, personally, I am sick of the the U.S. being the ‘world police’, but if we don’t do it, who will? Who is going to protect the innocent from the likes of the Taliban? The ‘Dinnerjacket? I don’t think so.

The idea that there is even a draft of a letter, reaching out to terrorists states, tells me a WHOLE lot about B. Hussein. That he would even considering such a thing….. Well, say what you will about Bush, but at least he never gave the appearance of sucking up to terrorists (Saudis have the oil, remember?  And we aren’t allowed to be energy independent…thank you weasels in D.C.). At this point in time, I don’t have much faith in The ONE. Odds are, I never will. IF he should do something….RIGHT….I’ll let you know.

Ephesians 2:1-5

1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)

Ann on Those Phoney “Victims”

Liberal Victimhood: A Game You Can Play at Home

I notice that liberals have not challenged the overall thesis of my rocketing bestseller, Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America,” which is that liberals always play the victim in order to advance, win advantages and oppress others.

I guess that would be hard to do when the corrupt Democratic governor of Illinois is running around comparing himself to Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.

Indeed, you can’t turn on the TV without seeing some liberal playing victim to score the game-winning point.

Caroline Kennedy tried to Bigfoot her way into New York’s Senate seat while being bathed in the Kennedy light of eternal victimhood. The New York Times began a profile of Caroline by quoting an average citizen who “turns almost maternally protective” upon hearing Caroline’s name, mentioning the assassination of her father — nearly half a century ago.

Just Who Is Being ‘Stimulated’?

28 January 2009, 10:12 pm. 1 Comment. Filed under Congress, Crime, Dhimmicrats, Economy, Feckless Weasels, Senate, Taxes, The ONE.

A small snippet of the so called ‘stimulus’ package the Dhimmis are so hot to shove down our throats by the Conniver in Chief and his lackeys in D.C.:

• $83 billion in welfare payments (the earned income credit for people who don’t pay income tax)
• $81 billion for Medicaid
• $66 billion on “education”, more than the entire Department of Education required just ten years ago
• $36 billion for expanded unemployment benefits
• $20 billion for food stamps
• $8 billion on “renewable energy” projects, which have a low or negative return
• $7 billion for “modernizing federal buildings and facilities”
• $6 billion on urban transit systems, dominated by unions and which, almost universally, lose money
• $2.4 billion for “carbon-capture demonstration projects”
• $2 billion for child-care subsidies
• $1 billion for Amtrak, the federal railroad that’s run in the red for 40 years
• $650 million for “digital TV conversion coupons” (on top of billions already spent)
• $600 million on new cars for government (added to the $3 billion already spent each year)
• $400 million for “global-warming research”
• $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts

(nabbed from Doug Ross)

So, again, I ask….just WHO is being stimulated?

Well, let’s see….folks who don’t contribute any tax money, transit systems that are money losers, coupons to get a box so folks can watch TV because Congress decided to make it a law that television HAD to make a major change to digital that cost television stations BILLIONS to comply with the stupid law, research on what I had assumed was already a given….according to the Boracle.  And it looks like Congress is going to save the auto industry all by themselves…..with OUR money.

Just how is this going to ‘stimulate’ the economy?  Seems to me that the only folks getting stimulated are the special interests!

Miss Heather is a GENIUS!

Here’s her idea:

It has occured to me that we could offset a fair chunk of this “stimulus”* bill by putting Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and all their greedy power-crazed followers in Congress into dunk tanks for a month or so (bonus: that’s a month they can’t give away more money for ‘bicycle access’ or ‘unemployment compensation’ for people who voluntarily quit their jobs).

$10 for 3 balls. Let ‘em work the same sort of shifts military personnel do on deployment, and get fed the same.

Additional funds could be raised via pay-per-view.

Or a lottery to be able to pelt them with cream pies…oooh.

It’s for the children!!

Now, here’s the ONLY draw back I can see….the lines will be so long, it might take years before everyone who wants to participate will get their turn.

“Ammunition Accountability Act”

28 January 2009, 8:04 pm. 5 Comments. Filed under 2nd Amendment, Tennessee.

I sent an email to my Tn State Representative, Vance Dennis, about the TN House Bill 3245, also known as the ‘Ammunition Accountabilty Act’.

Summary:

This bill requires that:

(1) All handgun and assault weapon ammunition manufactured or sold in this state on after January 1, 2009, be coded by the manufacturer; and
(2) By January 1, 2011, all non-coded ammunition for the calibers listed in this bill, whether owned by private citizens or retail outlets, be disposed of.

“Coded ammunition” is defined as a bullet carrying a unique identifier that has been applied by etching onto the base of the bullet projectile.

This bill requires the TBI to establish an ammunition coding system database, by January 1, 2009, that contains the following:

(1) A manufacturer registry. This bill requires manufacturers to register with the TBI and maintain for seven years records concerning all sales, loans, and transfers of ammunition to, from, or within the state; and
(2) A vendor registry. This bill requires vendors to register with the TBI and record the following information: date of transaction; name of transferee; purchaser’s driver license number or other government issued identification card number; date of birth of the purchaser; unique identifier number of all handgun ammunition or bullets transferred; and all other information prescribed by the TBI. The vendor must retain records for three years from the date of a recorded purchase.

Representative Dennis’ response:

This bill has no chance of passing. I will definitely vote against it.

Good man! :)
