Berkeley departments skirmish over 3M contract
Berkeley’s public library will face a showdown with the city’s Peace and Justice Commission tonight over whether a service contract for the book check-out system violates the city’s nuclear-free ordinance.
The dispute centers on a five-year, $63,000 contract the library wants to sign with 3M, an international technology company based in Minnesota, to service five scanner machines library patrons use to check out books.
But 3M, a company with operations in 60 countries, refused to sign Berkeley’s nuclear-free disclosure form as required by the Nuclear Free Berkeley Act passed by voters in 1986.
As a result, the library’s self-checkout machines have not been serviced in about six months. Library officials say 3M is the only company authorized by the manufacturer to fix the machines, which were purchased in 2004.
Here’s a thought….how ’bout Moonbat Central secede from planet earth? I’d have NO problem if that particular part of the country slid into the Pacific either. Their choice.
Stimulus Bill Sends Thrill Through Region
The stimulus plan is viewed in the two states and the District as something of a bailout. But it remains unclear how much money local governments will get and how many items on their wish lists will be funded, given the vagaries of funding formulas and the evolving nature of the legislation.
Governors and members of Congress are being deluged with inquiries and wish lists from local governments, which see the American Reinvestment and Recovery Plan as deliverance from a fiscal nightmare.
For state and local governments, the situation is deteriorating. Maryland is trying to close a $2 billion shortfall. Virginia has delayed more than $2 billion worth of road and transit projects statewide because of declining tax revenue. The District faces a shortfall of nearly $260 million.
It might be wise for states, ALL states, not to learn their accounting lessons from D.C. I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that the feds (all of US taxpayers) were responsible for infrastructure, and the states were responsible for everything else. How do they manage to take in such a large chunk of money, yet never have any?
Obama chooses Arab network for first TV interview
President Barack Obama today chose an Arabic-language satellite TV network for his first formal television interview as president, delivering a message to the Muslim world that “Americans are not your enemy.”
The interview underscored Obama’s commitment to repair relations with the Muslim world that have suffered under the previous administration.
The president expressed an intention to engage the Middle East immediately and his new envoy to the region, former Sen. George J. Mitchell, was expected to arrived in Egypt today for a visit that will also take him to Israel, the West Bank, Jordan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Has anyone figured out the U.S. is NOT this clown’s first priority? Shouldn’t his first OFFICIAL interview have been with AMERICAN reporters???? Are you Kool Aid drinkers getting the picture yet????
Consumer Confidence Hits New Low, Dipping to 37.7 in January
The Conference Board said Tuesday that its Consumer Confidence Index edged lower in January to 37.7 from a revised 38.6 in December. That’s a historic low for the widely watched barometer, as shoppers worry about their jobs and watch the value of their homes and retirement funds dwindle.
It’s also lower than expected. Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters had expected a reading of 39. The levels in recent months have hit the lowest point since the index began in 1967.
Ya think perhaps this might have something to do with the fact that folks have NO confidence in the fed’rul gubmint and all their feckless tinkering? See, most of us out here have actually figured out that if you keep repeating the mistakes of the past, you’re bound to get the same results. Government is actually doing more harm than ANY good they could, if they’d just get their fingers out of the pie.
Ground Troops, Tanks Return to Gaza; Hamas Attacks Negev
IDF tanks rolled back into Gaza along with foot soldiers Tuesday afternoon following an early morning roadside bomb explosion and a rocket-propelled grenade attack that killed one soldier and wounded three others, one seriously.
Hamas warned that it has not agreed to a “calm” and that its previous ceasefire announcement is dependent on Israel’s re-opening Gaza crossings to all commercial traffic.
Why should Israel re-open anything if all they can expect from these pigs is more attacks? Israel needs to finish the job. Perhaps because the Israelis actually DO want peace, it is perceived by the Hamas animals as weakness. They would be wrong, but that’s never stopped them from acting like the garbage that they are.

However, the survey reports doubts over US Intelligence estimates that Iran halted its work on nuclear weapons six years ago.
This points to Tehran’s continued development of long-range ballistic missiles able to reach targets in Israel and beyond.
The IISS recommends a mixture of carrot and stick as the best international response.
I wonder if our new….*choke*….president will be helping Iran out with their quest to destroy Israel when he has his little ‘diplomatic’ chat? BHO: “Could you please pass the sugar cookies, and oh, by the way, here’s those plans you need for your bomb, with a little extra material, just to show how much we like you.” 
Actually, the ONLY ‘carrot and stick’ to use with them would be at the end of a really big bomb…from US! I’m sick of all the playing nice with these people (and I use that term quite loosely.).
Obama keeps at it: ‘Yes we can’ quit smoking
Everybody wants to guilt-trip the president for smoking cigarettes, but nobody has tried to shame him off Nicorette gum. Indeed, the makers of Nicorette and its knockoffs caution users about dependency, saying they should chew for no more than 12 weeks, gradually reducing the dose to wean themselves off nicotine.
One of the few things I don’t give a crap about this guy, is whether or not he smokes. It’s really NOBODY’S business if he smokes. What is everyone’s business is what he does with the country, and so far, I ain’t impressed. Matter of fact, I’m a tad (read extremely) pissed with his actions. So, him lighting up is totally irrelevant. Why not be more concerned about the millions of babies he’s sentenced to death? Or the destruction of the family? Why doesn’t anyone concern themselves with how they are going to pay their tax bill? BHO’s smoking or not smoking doesn’t mean dick, compared to the damage he has already done to this country in one VERY long week.

Even though the bank’s stock is as cheap as a gallon of gas and it’s burning through a $45 billion taxpayer-funded rescue, the airhead execs pushed through the purchase of a new Dassault Falcon 7X, according to a source familiar with the deal.
I can’t even begin to express just how much this kind of crap chaps my hide.

He, along with other Beale Street merchants, claims that the legal action pursued by the city is just cover for a secret plan to regain control of the famous artery — located just south of a piece of property Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton held a secret interest in — and hand it over to a major national developer with ties to Justin Timberlake.
“They are doing this over here so you don’t see what they are doing over there,” Elkington said.
Honestly, nothing Harrington does would surprise me. What would surprise me if is someone came along that would clean up Memphis politics, and sweep out the feckless politicians. I wonder if they all came from Chicago, or New Orleans?
Egypt to Hamas: Take Gaza truce before Netanyahu is voted PM
The newspaper quoted the officials as telling Hamas that surveys in Israel show the opposition leader is likely to come to power in February’s general election, adding that he would form a coalition with “extremist parties.”
They reportedly said that Hamas stands to “lose everything” under these circumstances.
Hamas’ Gaza spokesman Ayman Taha, meanwhile, has said recently that Israel has offered his Palestinian Islamist group a 10-year cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
To put it simply, as long as there is a Hamas, there will be no ‘cease-fire’. As long as Israel exists, the Muslims, no matter what name they use, peace will be unattainable. Unless there is an acknowledgment that Israel has a RIGHT to exist, as well as any NON Muslim, there will be no peace. Until the whole world accepts Islam, and allows themselves to be ground under the thumb of the pedophile worshipers, no one will live in peace. And even then, the evil will continue.
Obama to Take Steps On Car Fuel Efficiency
President Obama plans to instruct key federal agencies today to reexamine two policies that could force automakers to produce more fuel-efficient cars that yield fewer greenhouse gas emissions, according to sources who have been briefed on the announcement.
The move, which the White House has privately trumpeted to supporters as “the first environment and energy actions taken by the president, helping our country move toward greater energy independence,” could reverse two Bush-era decisions that have helped shape the nation’s climate policy and its auto market.
Is there a rule, that if you live in the D.C. area, and hold public office, you have to be completely ignorant? Seriously. I’ve yet to see one intelligent thing to come out of that swamp in YEARS!
Illinois gov says he considered naming Oprah Winfrey to Senate
Taking his defense to the airwaves rather than his impeachment trial, Gov. Rod Blagojevich lashed out at his accusers Monday and revealed he had considered naming Oprah Winfrey to the Senate.
On the day his Senate trial was to begin, Blagojevich was hundreds of miles away in New York, appearing on ABC’s “Good Morning America” before scheduled appearances on “The View” and “Larry King Live.”
“I’m here in New York because I can’t get a fair hearing in Illinois, the state Senate in Illinois,” Blagojevich said in between TV appearances. “They’ve decided, with rules that are fixed, that don’t allow me as a governor the right to be able to bring in witnesses to prove that I’ve done nothing wrong.”

Court: Congo warlord forced children to fight
Lubanga’s militia “recruited, trained and used hundreds of young children to kill, pillage and rape. The children still suffer the consequences of Lubanga’s crimes,” Moreno-Ocampo said.
He said he would seek a sentence close to the maximum, which could be either 30 years or life depending on the severity of his crimes.
Moreno-Ocampo showed judges video of Lubanga addressing recruits—including young men and children dressed in military fatigues or T-shirts and shorts—at a training camp.
Girls were particularly vulnerable, Moreno-Ocampo said.
“As soon as the girls’ breasts started to grow, Thomas Lubanga’s commanders could select them as their wives,” he said. “Wives is the wrong word. They were sexual slaves.”

Man pleads guilty in Iran parts case
A California man pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to violate the U.S. embargo against Iran by arranging for the sale of parts for military aircraft, including fighter jets and attack helicopters.
Iranian-born Hassan Keshari, a 48-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen living in Novato, Calif., pleaded guilty to a single conspiracy count in a deal with prosecutors that could sharply reduce his prison sentence in return for continued cooperation. He faces a maximum of five years at sentencing set for April 8.
Wouldn’t that be considered….treason? Isn’t the penalty for treason, death? I don’t know for sure, but it sure seems to be that what he did was a national security type crime…aiding an abetting the enemy. Contray to what Mr B. Hussein wants y’all to believe, Iran is an enemy. 
Pelosi Advocates Greater Government Investment in Banks: ‘Some People Call That Nationalization’
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, describing the U.S. economy as “dark, darker, darkest,” indicated that further nationalization of American banks may be necessary, although she shied away from using the word “nationalization.”
Pelosi also told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that investing in food stamps and unemployment insurance would be more effective in stimulating the economy than any tax cut would be.
Oh yes, by all means…encourage people to sit home on their asses instead of giving businesses the tools to actually CREATE jobs. What a dipwad! Although the word I can think of, right off the top of my head, isn’t quite so polite.

PELOSI SAYS BIRTH CONTROL WILL HELP ECONOMY
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic “stimulus” package, claiming “contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”
Pelosi, the mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren, who once said, “Nothing in my life will ever, ever compare to being a mom,” seemed to imply babies are somehow a burden on the treasury.
The revelation came during an exchange Sunday morning on ABC’s THIS WEEK.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?
PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?
PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.
This woman is an embarrassment to anyone with a brain. Why she is still Speaker, much less in Congress, tells me a LOT about those who vote for her. And it’s not anything positive. This woman has given new meaning to the word ‘feckless’. It is NOT my job to pay for YOUR contraception. Sorry, that’s just a fact. It is YOUR responsibility to cross your legs and say NO if you can’t afford a 50 cent rubber. And those same tax dollars are NOT for the murder of any babies. If you are so dead set on paying for contraception woman, YOU pay for it out of YOUR pocket.
It is my opinion that this is one very dangerous piece of work, and it would be a real good idea if she were removed from office. ASAP!

Might Be A Tad Early….
….for folks to start contemplating, but considering what we’ve seen in less than a week, maybe it’s already too late.
Barack Hussein Obama appears to be chiseling away the foundations of our nation, replacing them with sand, and that just won’t do. So, I’m wondering….
That would put the gaffe king in charge. Do we want that? No, of course not. Impeach both? Where does that leave us:
- Speaker of the House of Representatives (Queen Nanny…..ACK!)
- President Pro Tempore of the Senate (Robert KKK Byrd? Jeeeez)
- Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton…ummmm…the lesser of the evils?)
- Secretary of the Treasury (Timothy Geithner [nominated]…the man can’t even run himself)
- Secretary of Defense (Robert Gates….might be able to live with that…at least he’s into defense)
The only exception to the line provided in the law states that to ascend to the Presidency, the next person in line must be constitutionally eligible. Any person holding an office in the line of succession who, for example, is not a naturally-born citizen cannot become President. In this case, that person would be skipped and the next eligible person in the line would become President. (source)
Well, you get the picture. I’m thinking we need to get VERY serious, and come 2010, elect some serious conservatives, in the hopes that any damage that is done, can be reversed.
Note to the moonbats: 52% is NOT a majority. BHO’s approval ratings have dropped in less than a week of taking office. 42% strongly approving isn’t all that impressive, considering he just took office and all the hoopla surrounding his election. Hopefully, folks are starting to wake up from their Kool Aid induced stupor and seeing this guy for what he really is….NOT the messiah.

In less than a week after Obama’s swearing in, our nuevo POTUS unfurled his radically liberal abortion and family plans together with his juicy pro-homosexual agenda.
Good job, all evangelicals who voted for Obama, as these aforementioned ditties—from a biblical perspective—are about as sanctified as the Antichrist French kissing a crack whore in Bret Michaels’ hot tub.
Yep, I wanna give a special shout out to all the “major” ministers who fawned and swooned over Barack and swayed their congregations to vote for him in spite of his anti-scriptural stances on life, marriage and sexuality.
