Tennessee prepares to execute inmate
According to news reports, Terry Flatt, Henley’s co-defendant, testified that Henley was mad at Fred and Edna Stafford because he thought they owed his family money.
“This literally was one man’s word against another man’s word,” said Stacy Rector, executive director of the Tennessee Coalition to Abolish State Killing and Henley’s spiritual adviser. “The man who had everything to lose, who implicated himself, is the one who got the deal and walked away after 5 years.”
Fred Stafford was standing on his porch when Henley shot him through the heart, court documents said. Edna Stafford was also shot, but died from burns and smoke inhalation after Henley doused the Stafford house with gas and set it on fire, court documents said.
You’ll have to excuse me, but after 23 years, I’d say all legal remedies had already been exhausted. The co-defendant only gets 5 year and walks? Something seriously wrong with this pictures. I just pray the Staffords family can now have some peace. Putting families, and the legal system, through decades of brutality is ‘cruel and unusual punishment’, for the innocent. Two year, five at the VERY max, 2 appeals. That’s it! Carry out the execution! Actually, it would be even easier on all those involved, and a whole lot less costly for the taxpayers, if execution was carried out within hours of the conviction. But hey…that’s just me.
Pitch for adultery finds Houston market
“Infidelity is a form of betrayal, and the idea of portraying betrayal as an answer to relationship problems is mind-boggling,” said family therapist Tim Louis in Houston.
He was referring to the $250,000 spot for AshleyMadison.com, an online dating service for married folk.
The ad, deemed inappropriate by NFL and NBC officials, ran only in Texas. It showed a couple celebrating their anniversary at a white tablecloth restaurant. The man blew his nose, answered his cell phone, then stood up to leave in the middle of dessert.
“Happy anniversary, honey,” he said on his way out.
Then came the voice-over, speaking to women: “Isn’t it time for AshleyMadison.com?”
Not just ‘no’, but HELL no! What has happened to Texas? What has happened to this country that such an ad would even be made? Pushing infidelity? I’m speechless! It speaks volumes on the direction we have gone when such a company even has made enough money to afford such an ad during the Super Bowl.
Shoe Thrown At Chinese Premier
A protester has been arrested and charged by police after throwing a shoe at Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao as he delivered a speech at Cambridge University.
The shoe landed on the stage about a metre from the Chinese leader as he was coming to the end of his speech.
The demonstrator was arrested and has been charged with committing a public order offence.
I seriously hope this is not going to become some sort of trend. Some people might find such behavior amusing, as did the left when the so called ‘journalist’ threw a shoe at Bush. I suppose the maturity level, world wide, has dropped severely, to the level of petulant toddlers.
Supreme Leader: Bullying Powers Feel Humiliated
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that the bullying powers who once were proud of their absolute power are now feeling humiliated.
The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with a group of freed prisoners who were in the captivity of despotic regimes.
Comparing the current status of Zionist regime and the US government with the situation that existed 20 years ago, Ayatollah Khamenei said they are now experiencing weakness and gradual annihilation worldwide.
Oh, I wouldn’t count us out just yet. We may have a spineless puppet in the WH right now, surrounded by appeasers, but that doesn’t mean the REAL folks aren’t ready to slap you down in a heartbeat, ‘K?
JPMorgan, AmEx Sponsor New York Squash Tournament Amid $28B Bailout
Despite receiving $28.4 billion in federal taxpayer bailout funds, JPMorgan Chase and American Express sponsored a weeklong professional squash tournament in New York last month at the same time lawmakers were denouncing wasteful Wall Street spending.
The weeklong event — the Tournament of Champions — was held Jan. 23-29 at Grand Central Terminal and sold roughly 4,500 tickets. The tournament’s see-through court attracted thousands more passers-by and commuters who caught a glimpse of one of the “world’s premier squash championships,” according to tournament director John Nimick.
Squash? Sorry, that’s something you eat, not something you play, especially if you are begging money from the taxpayers. And yes, the morons in D.C. just keep throwing money to those who haven’t a clue. the words, dumber and dumbest, come to mind.
Clinton to ask European aid on U.S. issues
Mr. Wood declined to give details, but administration officials said privately that the U.S. list includes Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Middle East peace process, Guantanamo Bay detainees, Russia, Iran, Sudan and Zimbabwe.
“We haven’t received any specific requests yet, but we are prepared to work with the new administration,” said a senior European diplomat, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. “There is a clear awareness that America is back, and that it’s not looking at the world through any ideology.”
I guess the ideology of not bowing to Mecca doesn’t sit well with the Europeans, eh? Since they’ve pretty much thrown their doors open in appeasement, and want us to follow their footsteps into their brand of socialism. If that is B. Hussein and his criminal cronies intentions, they might just find themselves with a bigger fight on their hands than they thought.
Israel wants EU, US navies to seize arms ships
Israel has requested that the United States and the European Union change the mandate of their fleets operating in the Red Sea and Mediterranean to allow them to board and detain vessels shipping weapons to Hamas in the Gaza Strip, senior defense officials told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.
The Israeli request will be considered Wednesday in Copenhagen at a joint US-EU conference aimed at coming up with ways to curb the flow of weapons smuggled to Hamas in Gaza.
Israel had initially deliberated on whether to send a representative to the Copenhagen talks, but on Monday officials said it was likely that a representative of the Defense Ministry or Foreign Ministry would participate.
“We need a mandate for the navies that allows them to board and seize vessels carrying weaponry for Hamas,” one official explained. “The problem is that currently a country cannot just stop a ship in international waters unless it is flying that country’s flag.”
I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one. The current bent of the new administration, and the Islamic Republic of Europe gives me an indication of just how much will be done to help Israel in their struggle for survival. Paying lip service to Israel, while sending billions to the terrorists, seems to be the ugly truth these days. I no longer have any faith that the US will do the right thing, and I’m fairly certain the EU has completely forgotten what the right thing actually is.
Mississippi’s governor shuns stimulus, stuns lawmaker
House Speaker Billy McCoy appeared incredulous Monday that Gov. Haley Barbour is willing to reject $2.6 billion in badly needed federal stimulus money while state government deals with a shortfall that could reach $310 million by June 30.
But Barbour, a Republican, said he needs to see what strings are attached.
And there will be strings. What little independence states have left will go by the wayside. Perhaps, if every state would stop sending money to D.C., they’d have enough to fix the problems. If tax dollars collected are not used for roads and defense, then not one dime should be going to the weasels who couldn’t balance a check book if their lives depended on it….and it does, by the way. Their political lives. It’s actually rather nice to see at ONE Republican with cajones….even temporarily? Wouldn’t it be nice if ALL governors had the guts to tell D.C. NO? sigh…. Yes, I’m fantasizing again. Sorry.
