An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

Senator Corker, You Lost My Vote

19 February 2009, 4:22 pm. Comments Off. Filed under 2nd Amendment, Feckless Weasels, Tennessee.

I sent both of my TN senators, Corker and Alexander, emails, urging them to vote against Eric Holder.  Well, today, I got Corker’s response:

Dear Mrs. Xxxxxx,

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office to share your concerns about the nomination of Eric Holder for Attorney General of the United States. Your input is important to me and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

I recognize the importance of ensuring that a highly qualified and knowledgeable person serves as our Attorney General. As a general rule, I believe in allowing discretion to the President to choose the people he wants to fill his Cabinet. However, I had significant concerns with Mr. Holder’s nomination for Attorney General due to his record as Deputy Attorney General and his past analysis of the 2nd Amendment. After carefully reviewing the testimony from Mr. Holder’s confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, while I may disagree with some of Mr. Holder’s views, there was nothing that would disqualify him from this position.

You should know that I fully support the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision striking down the District of Columbia’s handgun ban because I strongly believe in protecting our constitutional rights. This decision is exceptionally significant because for the first time in our nation’s history, the Supreme Court has affirmed that gun ownership is an individual right protected by the Constitution.

The right to own firearms for shooting, hunting, and self-protection is important to me as a Tennessean and as an American. I believe in safeguarding the rights of law-abiding American citizens. I will be a consistent voice for the second amendment, and I will fight attempts to weaken those rights that are granted in the Constitution.

Please take note of the attached “Policy Points” document to learn more about the steps I have taken to protect our 2nd Amendment rights.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me.

Sincerely,

Bob Corker
United States Senator

Bob Corker: Protecting Your Right to Bear Arms

As a hunter and sportsman, Senator Bob Corker is a strong advocate for the Second Amendment. He believes the constitution provides law abiding citizens the freedom to keep and bear arms.

* Support for an Individual Right.

Senator Corker supports the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down the DC handgun ban and affirming that gun ownership is an individual right.

* Support for Restoring the Second Amendment. Senator Corker was one of the original Cosponsors of S.1001, a bill to restore Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia. At that time, the citizens of Washington DC were required to register all privately owned firearms and possession of a handgun within the Washington DC city limits was prohibited. This bill would have allowed the ownership of a firearm, including a handgun, in Washington DC.

* Prohibit funding for groups who infringe on the Second Amendment. Senator Corker voted for an amendment that would prohibit any funding to foreign organizations that infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of lawful American citizens.

* Support for Conceal and Carry Laws. Senator Corker supports allowing state conceal and carry laws that would allow people to carry concealed weapons in National Parks and Refuges if state laws allow it.

* Support for National Shooting Sports Foundation. Senator Corker supported the nomination of a National Shooting Sports Foundation representative to be appointed to the Defense Trade Advisory Group to represent the interests of small arms manufacturers. This appointment will protect the interests of small arms manufactures within this group

Well now, Senator Corker, that’s all well and good.  However, your support of Holder defies your words, and we both know……actions speak a WHOLE lot louder than words.

As for Alexander?  Pfft!  I’ve never ONCE gotten a response from that clown.  And no, when he was up for re-election this last time around,  did NOT vote for hm.

Obviously, we can share our opinions with them, but they don’t  listen.  I know I’m far from the only person who let them both know Holder was NOT an acceptable choice for Attorney General, given his lack of respect of the Constitution of the United States.
