Just Call Me Grace

26 February 2009, 7:51 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Just Cuz, Travel.

Well, we got to Nashville with no problems, although we did have to take a detour and saw some of Tennessee we hadn’t seen before….looks kind of like a lot of other areas.  Just a tad hillier.

After sitting in the motel room, listening to the traffic on I-65, and not watching Fox News, we decided dinner was a good idea.  We walked across the street and found a Greek place, with a lot of Lebanese food.  Well, there are some similarities, but why call it Greek?  I mean other than the fact they have some extremely tasty gyros.   A tad pricey, but when you get a mezza of 5 different items, I guess that would jack it up some.

We came back in time to watch Bones.  ACK!  No Bones.  American Idol!  NO, we do not watch people making jackasses of themselves, and we don’t care who wins, and who loses.  I know there are some people who really get into those kinds of shows, but ya can’t count us among them.  :P

So, we walk back to the motel, I walked under a set of stairs, and…….BOOM!  Did you know there is a small step down under there?  Well, neither did I.  Landed on my right side, took the skin off my elbow, and now feel like I’ve been hit by a Mack truck.  Oh, yay me!

Yep….just call me Grace.

Freedom Worth Having…..

26 February 2009, 11:31 am. Comments Off. Filed under 1st Amendment, Opinion, Taxes.

…..is freedom worth fighting for.

As the Mr and I head out to the “Tea Party”, Tennessee style, I thought this would be a good post to share.

The soon to be “Impossible Argument”

What are we protesting and why?

This question has been raised multiple times over the past few days as we plan and plot the events to take place tomorrow. I think it’s vitally important that we explore the full implications of what liberal Democrats (and even a few Republicans) are conspiring to do to the American population.

In fact, I think it’s extremely important that we begin to grasp the underlying capabilities of recent legislation, specifically… the “Stimulus Bill”.

While most of our conversation has surrounded the explosive pork amendments, the outrageous spending involved and the potential expansion in the scale and scope of the United States Government… little has been said about the shocking reality we face once this legislation begins to take hold.

Our argument is that Government intrusion doesn’t work. We assert that less regulation and taxation is key to the success of our country as a whole. Our belief is that the individual is responsible for himself, and once he/she accepts that responsibility, great things can happen.

Eric is one smart cookie.  Please, go read the whole post.  It’ll be worth your while.  And if you are one of those who are against the freedoms that are granted by God, and the U.S. Constitution, then nothing said, or done, will ever make a bit of difference to you.

Our forefathers fought for their freedoms, with word and action.  Can we do less?  And still call ourselves Americans?  I don’t believe so.

Obama sees war costs totalling $140 billion this year

President Barack Obama expects that the cost to the United States of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will total just over $140 billion (98 billion pound) this year, according to a senior administration official.

The costs for the two wars will decline to $130 billion in the 2010 fiscal year that begins October 1, said the official, who briefed reporters on Obama’s budget, which is due to be released on Thursday.

Well now, that’s a boatload of money, isn’t it. But compared to what he is going to be spending on useless crap, that only helps gubmint grow, it’s pretty much a drop in the bucket.  Will our troops have the equipment they need, or will much needed money be sent, instead, to fund The Teddy (I Kill Young Women) Kennedy’s Ego Museum?

Geologist Erupts at Jindal’s Volcano Question

After President Obama’s speech on the economy last night, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal criticized government spending in the stimulus bill, citing examples including “$140 million for something called ‘volcano monitoring.’”

The $140 million to which Jindal referred is actually for a number of projects conducted by the United States Geological Survey, including volcano monitoring.

This monitoring is aimed at helping geologists understand the inner workings of volcanoes as well as providing warnings of impending eruptions, in the United States and in active areas around the world where U.S. military bases are located.

Well, y’know, monitoring volcanoes is probably a good thing. But let me ask something…..does it stimulate the economy? Or, should funding and grants be put in a totally separate bill? Personally, I do not believe that this sort of spending should be under the guise of “stimulus”. Now, that geologist should untwist his knickers, and look at the WHOLE big picture.

Read His Lips: New Taxes

On his Presidential Transition website, President Obama said he would “pay for his $50 – $65 billion health care reform effort by rolling back the Bush tax cuts for Americans earning more than $250,000 per year and retaining the estate tax at its 2009 level.”

But as we learned yesterday afternoon, though the President is certainly planning on raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire next year — making the top rate jump from 35% to 39.6% — the President plans on partially funding the Health Care Reserve fund by raising another, new tax on those families making $250,000 a year, specifically from reducing the itemized deduction rate for families with incomes over $250,000, limiting it to 28 percent.

If anyone really believes taxing the rich into poverty is going to help ANYONE, they are sadly mistaken. B. Hussein’s ‘experiment’ on the road to socialism will do nothing more than destroy what economy we have left.
We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. ~ Winston Churchill

Bills on guns in parks, secrecy of permits advance in House

A bill that would close handgun records to the public also passed the House Judiciary Criminal Practice Subcommittee, where about a dozen gun bills were heard. The session was a victory for House Republicans. House Speaker Rep. Kent Williams, an Elizabethton Republican, attended in a show of support for a bill that would allow handguns in wildlife areas.

During the meeting Williams sided with Democratic Rep. Janis Sontany to encourage lawmakers to remove local parks from a bill that would allow handguns in parks throughout the state.

“I’ve seen too many fits of anger at these local parks,” Williams said. “Where there’s going to be and will be a fit of anger, we don’t need somebody carrying a gun in that area.”

Yeah….actually, y’putz…..you DO! Those “fits of anger” you refer to are not usually due to someone who is legally carrying a gun. They are typically drug related, and don’t most drug dealers carry weapons ILLEGALLY? If a man and his wife/girlfriend want to take a stroll in the park on a balmy summer’s evening, and they come across a deal going down, something goes wrong, and they are caught in the middle, would you prefer for them to be murdered, or would you rather see the man, or woman, pull out their gun and blow the scum from the planet? Saving the tax payers a great deal of time and expense, of course. But something like this…. Milk proposed as state beverage ….is how they waste our money. Psst! NO one equates Tennessee with milk, for the love of pete! Jeeeeez!

BURRIS’ SON GOT STATE JOB FROM BLAGO

A spokeswoman for the Illinois Housing Development Authority indicated Wednesday there was nothing improper about Burris II’s employment by the agency, whose mission includes overseeing mortgage programs for low-income home buyers and anti-foreclosure initiatives.

Burris II’s hiring, however, raises more questions about Sen. Burris’ interactions with Blagojevich and his inner circle at a time when the governor was soliciting Sen. Burris for campaign contributions and Burris was angling to have Blagojevich appoint him to the Senate seat once held by President Obama.

Perhaps Burris got the job cuz Burris Jr knows where the bodies are buried? Just a thought.  I mean, this IS Chicago, after all.

Verse of the Day

26 February 2009, 8:12 am. Comments Off. Filed under Faith.

1 John 4:1-4

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The Cal Ripken President

As Obama prepared to deliver his address to Congress on Tuesday, the Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner, Fox News’ Bret Baier and Charles Krauthammer all gushed that history was being made as the first African-American president appeared before Congress.

Even Gov. Bobby Jindal, whom I suppose I should note was the first Indian-American to give the Republican response to a president’s speech, began with an encomium to the first black president. (Wasn’t Bobby great in “Slumdog Millionaire”?)

Are we going to have to hear about this for the next four years? Obama is becoming the Cal Ripken Jr. of presidents, making history every time he suits up for a game. Recently, Obama also became the first African-American president to order a ham sandwich late at night from the White House kitchen! That’s going to get old pretty quick.

“A Texas Wife”

25 February 2009, 5:16 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Chuckles.

Three men married wives from different states.

The first man married a woman from Michigan. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a woman from Missouri. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a girl from TEXAS. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.

TARP Watchdog: Billions in Bank Fraud Possible

Neil Barofsky, the White House-appointed watchdog over the $700 billion Congress-approved bank rescue, warns that the so-called TARP money is ripe for fraud.

The special investigator general for the Troubled Asset Relief Programs told Congress in testimony that rip-offs and misuse could cost billions in taxpayer dollars.

“We are looking at the potential exposure of tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars in taxpayer money lost to fraud,” Barofsky said.

“History teaches us that an outlay of so much money in such a short period of time will inevitably draw those seeking to profit criminally.”

Let’s see…you combine a bunch of feckless weasels with a LARGE dollar amount, what do you think is going to happen?  Ya think they’re going to be responsible grown ups?  Pfft!  We’ve got children with their first allowance in a candy store.
