Dear Ms Thomas,

23 February 2009, 4:20 pm. 2 Comments. Filed under Economy, Health Care.

Today I received a “gift” in the mail, thanking me for my recent donations to your organization, St. Jude’s.  While I am more than happy to help children in need, I would greatly appreciate you not wasting much needed funds on sending those who donate, gifts, and then proceed to ask for another donation.

If you are very serious in asking for donation, please, for the love of all that is holy, do NOT send something so unbelievable ugly, ok?

ugly-tie

I do not wear ties, and if I did, I would NEVER wear anything so unbelievably horrid.

Due to the current economic conditions, aided and abbeted by your’s and your husband’s favorite socialist, I will not be able to send any money to help those children who are in desparate need.  However, I will be returning your gift.  I hope you will be able to sell this, and others like it, on e-bay in order to fund the treatment for those poor children.

Sincerely,

Ol’ Broad

Obama Live Stream: Obama Address to Congress, Live Feed Blogging

Watch the Obama Address to Congress on Tuesday, February 24th 2009 on a live video stream feed with live-blogging commentary. Although the Obama speech is not technically a “State of the Union” address his team is secretly calling it one and it has the same aura.

‘scuse me while I drag out the barf bag……again.

Anyway, don’t forget to set a reminder to watch the ‘live streaming’.  It should get REAL interesting.  :)

Update: Mistakenly had it as Thursday.  Hey….it starts with a “T”.  :?

NOT The Worse, But Pushing Us There

23 February 2009, 12:18 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Economy, Opinion.

I really enjoy reading a variety of opinions.  Some, I agree with, some, I don’t.  That doesn’t stop me from learning what others think and believe.  This is one of those posts that I tend to agree with, to a large degree.  It’s not about “saving the economy”, it’s about power.

Using A Crisis to Gain More Power

If I hear one more Politician say “This is the worst it’s ever been! We need to do something!” I am going to be sick.. This is NOT the worst it’s ever been, not by a long shot…

The Unemployment Rate as of January is 7.60%. There are those that want you to think this is as bad as it ever was…since the Great Depression. Don’t believe it….

With the 24/7 news cycle, we are being bombarded with the doom and gloom D.C. wants to PROMOTE! The recent election of a new president, spouting ‘hope and change’, has done NOTHING to bring about neither hope NOR change. It’s all the same, but more so.

There are those who voted for B. Hussein who actually believed his campaign promises.  Foolish people.  I can pretty much gurantee, not one of them bothered to look as his record, or lack there of.  Now, thanks to a lack of ‘education’, we are being shoved into a situation, not of our making, but the POTUS and his party.  I will not say the Republicans did any better the last couple of years.  One of the major reasons they lost in 2006 was because of their irresponsibility.  So, we now have a whole lot more irresponsible people making laws, and spending money that does not belong to them.

How did we get to this point?  Well, there are a few spots here and there that could be pointed out, but I’ll leave that to wiser minds.  Suffice it to say, we are now in a position we should never have been in, and the fallout is going to be bad, unless We, The People, do something to stop it……NOW!

What should we do?  Well, I suppose writing letters, calling, emailing all our representatives, including the POTUS is a good start.  I’ve been doing that myself.  But with the outcome of the recent bill signing looming in my mind, I’d have to say, they just are not listening, or……the just flat out don’t give a happy crap what we have to say.  Probably a combination of the two?

Drastic times call for drastic measures.  Well, D.C. is shoving us into a corner, and you know how a cat will react when it’s pushed into a corner?  Well, I see more and more of the hissing and spitting, but not a lot of scratching.  Perhaps a bit of scratching is in order?  No, not physical scratching, but a presence, all across the country….small towns, large cities, and every where in between.

Regulators Pledge to Shore Up Banks, But Keep Them in ‘Private Hands’

Federal regulators are planning to launch a revamped program to inject capital into financial institutions on Wednesday, but insisted that U.S. banks should stay “in private hands” amid growing talk of nationalization.

“Because our economy functions better when financial institutions are well managed in the private sector, the strong presumption of the Capital Assistance Program is that banks should remain in private hands,” the Treasury Department, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and other agencies said in a joint statement issued Monday.

EVERYTHING functions better when it’s in private hands. Every time the gubmint gets involved, there are MORE regulations, MORE rules, MORE bureaucracy, and LESS productivity. If the banks that have already been handed billions, can’t get it right, then they deserve to fall flat on their collective faces, and let someone who CAN do it, take over. Stop screwing the people over! I have my doubts on whether or not the tentacles of gubmint will be kept out.

IDF Foils Kidnap Attempt at Gaza; Kassam Hits near Sderot

IDF ground troops clashed with Gaza terrorists at the Kissufim Crossing Sunday morning after spotting them trying to cross and attack a Jewish community and soldiers, including an attempt to kidnap a soldier. An Air Force helicopter bombed their fleeing vehicle west of the clash. Initial reports indicated that no one was wounded.

No one was wounded? Does that mean they were all killed, or the AF helicopter missed? C’mon….ya gotta AIM better!

A short time later, terrorists fired a rocket that exploded near Sderot, causing no damage or injuries.

Rocket attacks, mortar shelling and sniper fire by Hamas and allied terrorists have become a near-daily routine since the Olmert administration concluded a three-week campaign against the terrorist infrastructure in the area.

So, 56% of the Israels think Olmert withdrew too soon? Add a few Americans in with that count, like me, for example. Hamas should have been totally destroyed before anyone withdrew from anything.

Baskin parents pray for reunion with kidnapped children

It’s been more than 20 years since Baskin, a former Murfreesboro resident, left his children Bobby and Christi in the care of Marvin and Sandra Maple, and headed off to study at Southern Baptist Theological seminary in Louisville, Ky. The Maples offered to watch Bobby and Christi for a few months until Baskin and his wife, Debbie, got settled in seminary. The Baskins agreed to leave their older children with the Maples and take their younger son, Michael, with them to seminary.

This is definitely one of those strange ‘made for TV’ movies. I question why the police did not intervene to return the children to their parents before the Maples took off with them.

Obama fetes US governors at first White House black-tie dinner

US President Barack Obama late Sunday hosted his first White House state dinner in honor of US governors, offering them reassurance and support in tough economic times.

“Our goal and aim is to make sure that we are making life easier, and not harder, for you during the time that we’re here in Washington,” Obama said during the black-tie affair.

The president acknowledged that every part of the country was going through difficult times and urged bipartisan cooperation in order to overcome the economic crisis.

Is it really wise that while spewing “crisis” to be hosting lavish black tie parties……AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TAXPAYERS?

Obama prominent in Detroit mayoral campaign ads

Barack Obama has been marketing gold for companies selling stamps, commemorative coins, T-shirts, pajamas and nearly everything else bearing his likeness.

Several Detroit mayoral hopefuls are banking on the new and popular president’s Midas touch rubbing off on their campaigns in a city that is more than 80 percent black.

A number of ads leading up to Tuesday’s special mayoral primary make mention of Obama or his “Time for a Change” theme used so successfully in the race for the White House.

Racists! The only thing that they can use that’s positive is the color of his skin, cuz Lord knows, he hasn’t been a positive leader.  Everything is doom and gloom out of that man’s mouth.  tsk tsk  What a shame that Detroit’s politicians want to ride that black coat tail into office, instead of standing on their OWN principles.

Few in Bay Area qualify in housing rescue plan

More than 90 percent of Bay Area mortgage holders cannot qualify for the low-cost refinances included in President Obama’s housing rescue package, according to an analysis of loan data from real estate service Zillow.com.

I have a problem with one single dime going to San Francisco at all! Why should OUR money go to bail out an area that obviously hates the rest of the country, and our standards.

Supreme Court rejects appeal from convicted Daley aides

Mayor Daley’s former patronage chief and two other former city officials have failed to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to consider setting aside their convictions in an illegal hiring scheme.

The justices, with Justice Antonin Scalia dissenting, issued an order today letting stand Robert Sorich’s conviction and 46-month prison term.

Sorich, who oversaw city hiring from 1993 to 2005, was found guilty along with Timothy McCarthy and Patrick Slattery of skirting laws that ban political city hiring.

But….but…..that’s just the way it’s done in Chicago! /snark

Honda replaces president amid sales slump

The appointment of Ito, long groomed for a leadership role, is unlikely to trigger a big break with tradition at Honda. Fukui’s departure had been widely expected after six years at the helm, a relatively long tenure for an automaker’s chief executive.

The move, however, appeared to be aimed at assuring shareholders that Honda was ready to make bold changes to weather the global economic slowdown.

Ya see. That’s what you do when your profits are down. Ya change management, do things differently. Now, if the US automakers would just get off their duffs, tell the unions where to shove their demands, and be happy they’ve got a freakin’ job right now, changed some things around, perhaps they wouldn’t have found themselves in D.C. begging for money from the taxpayers who do NOT want to pay for their workers retirement packages.

Romans 8:24-25

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Philippians 4:4-8

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Report: Arrest near in Chandra Levy murder

An arrest may be near in the nearly decade-old slaying of federal intern Chandra Levy, whose disappearance in 2001 ended California congressman Gary Condit’s career, several television stations reported.

The California Democrat was romantically linked to Levy, but was not considered a suspect in her death or disappearance. Television stations, KFSN and KCRA in California and WRC in Washington, D.C., reported that police were seeking an arrest warrant.

I have to say I hope they get the POS who did this, finally. Her parents have been through enough hell the past 8 years.

So far, development isn’t cropping up near Cowboys’ new stadium

Arlington supporters of the new Cowboys stadium hoped that it would be a catalyst for redevelopment in an area dominated by parking lots, motels, auto sales and repair and retail targeting immigrants. The mixed-use developments and pricey condominiums planned for the area would have targeted the more affluent football fans who could afford tickets that cost as much as a few hundred dollars and seat licenses that cost thousands.

The city is contributing about $325 million in funding toward construction of the stadium.

“The city of Arlington was clearly banking on that ancillary development,” said economist Bernard Weinstein. “It’s not the city of Arlington’s fault or the Cowboys’ fault that we’re having the worst economic downturn since the 1930s.”

Don’t ya just love it? Say something often enough, and it become ‘fact’. This ain’t the 1930s, and BHO is NOT gonna fix all the problems. Sheesh! Well, honestly, I hope Jerry Jones falls flat on his face. He’s priced the REAL fans right out of the stands.

Immigrants find home and help in Middle Tennessee

Census figures out this week on America’s foreign-born population show Tennessee — and particularly Middle Tennessee — becoming an increasingly popular destination for immigrants.

Since 1990, the state gained nearly 200,000 foreign-born residents, an increase that moved Tennessee’s ranking from 31st to 24th for the number of immigrants and refugees. Of the nearly 250,000 in the state, the largest cluster — 101,932 of them — lives in the Nashville-Franklin-Murfreesboro statistical area the Census Bureau measures.

I really have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. The problem we’re having here is the lack of assimilation, and there are just too many lately. Seriously, we have got to slow it down. There are just so much to go around, and after that’s gone, people are left out in the cold, so to speak.

Katyusha hits Galilee, 3 people hurt

No one has claimed responsibility for the rocket firing, but Israeli officials stressed that the government holds Lebanon responsible for the attack, carried out from its territory, Israel Radio reported.

The officials noted that Lebanon must prevent attacks against Israel and need to ensure that UN resolutions are not violated.

Of course the Lebanese government is responsible. They allow terrorists to run rough shod over the people. Is the government doing anything to get them out? Did they do anything to rid themselves of Hezbollah after the last war? Nope. Nada. Zip.  But the Israeli government is also responsible…..for not wiping them out when they had the chance.  The Useless Numnts?  Pfft!  What a joke!

NATO allies reluctant to increase Afghan presence

Defense Secretary Robert Gates, speaking at the conclusion of the session, emphasized the importance of having sufficient troops on the ground to guarantee that national elections in Afghanistan, now scheduled for August, are safe and credible. He went out of his way to compliment a handful of countries that, like the United States, had contributed both troops and civilian development teams. But in a tacit acknowledgement that other countries would be unwilling or unable to send more combat forces, Gates appealed for allies to send civilians to carry out important, noncombat development tasks.

I’m no military genius, obviously, but wouldn’t a few very well placed bombs do a whole lot more than thousands of troops on the ground, getting shot at? Just asking.

Governor’s rift with GOP grows wider

After five years as governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger came full circle on Friday: The film star who promised to rescue California from its fiscal wreckage without raising taxes signed into law $12.5 billion in tax hikes.

With that, the Republican governor broke one of the few bonds left between his shrunken party and California’s mainstream voters, marring its hard-won image as a guardian against higher taxes.

Considering the fact that Ahnold was never really a Republican, in the true sense of the word….not the current definition, it’s not surprising that California has sunk deeper and deeper into debt. They could solve a LOT of problems if they would just stop supporting illegals, CUT some taxes, bring business back, and clean up their act. Stop with all the Kumbaya BS, and plant their feet back into the realms of reality.

Clinton: Chinese ‘human rights can’t interfere’ with other crises

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton broached the issue of human rights with Chinese leaders Saturday, but emphasized that the world economic and other crises are more pressing and immediate priorities.

“Human rights cannot interfere with the global economic crisis, the global climate change crisis and the security crises,” Clinton said in talks with China’s foreign minister.

Good heavens. This woman is even daffier than I thought. And here we keep hearing that she is the smartest broad around? Money trumps human rights? The ‘global climate change’ is more important? Box. Rocks. Dumb.

Clashes in Nigerian city kill at least 5: Red Cross

A Muslim mob went on a rampage, attacking Christians and burning churches in reprisals over the burning of two mosques overnight in Bauchi, which the Muslims blamed on Christians.

“I saw five dead bodies on the streets this morning, one of them was burnt,” resident Muazu Hardawa said.

Tension had risen in Bauchi since February 13, when members of a Pentecostal church opposite a mosque in the area barricaded a pathway outside the church used by Muslims attending Friday prayers, residents said.

I have to ask….why did the Pentecostals block the pathway? Was it for security reasons? And this may be off base, but I wouldn’t put it past ‘em if the Muslims set fire to their own mosques as an excuse to attack Christians. Although, seems they don’t really need an excuse, they just do it anyway.

President Barack Obama extends Gulf Coast hurricane recovery office

The housing program, which provides housing subsidies for 31,000 families, about half in the New Orleans area, and the recovery office, created by President George W. Bush two months after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, were all due to expire Feb. 28.

“The residents of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast who are helping rebuild are heroes who believe in their communities, and they are succeeding despite the fact that they have not always received the support they deserve from the federal government, ” President Barack Obama said in announcing his executive order extending the life of the recovery office.

The president called the action “a first step of a sustained commitment by my administration to rebuild now, stronger than ever.”

Is it just me, or do the folks in New Orleans seem to have a real problem picking up the pieces after the levee broke, THREE AND A HALF YEARS AGO? :?   Perhaps, if they had some REAL leadership, they wouldn’t be so far behind the rest of the coast?  Just sayin’.

Man who allegedly hit border agent with truck is shot

“The agents attempted to make an immigration stop, as the truck headed north on New Mexico Road 9,” Mosier said. “The truck then turned north on a ranch road, and the agents tried to make a stop.

“The truck then drove toward the agents at a high rate of speed and struck one of them. Other agents who were there fired at the truck. The driver received at least one gunshot wound.”

Personal opinion: Whoever fired the shot needs some more range time. His aim was a bit off.
