Quinn dumping Blagojevich’s people

The purge has begun. After promising to “fumigate” state government, Gov. Quinn has wasted no time ridding his administration of holdovers from former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s regime. Gone so far are former Deputy Gov. Louanner Peters, acting head of the Department of Natural Resources Kurt Granberg and chief Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero.

I can’t imagine why he’s want to keep any of them on in a new administration. Even if they weren’t involved in any way, shape or form, there will always be that cloud hanging over their heads, and suspicion of anything they say or do.

Budding bilinguals: Grant to fund classes in Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin at Memphis schools

Seven months into the school year, Tamara Boyer speaks almost no English as she leads students at Brownsville Road Elementary through animated lessons in Russian, immersion style.

With great fanfare and Southern accents, they respond in Russian with the words for turnip (penka), grandfather (dedushka) and mouse (myshka), collecting photocopied Russian currency for correct answers.

If you’ve ever seen any kids interviewed on the evening news, about a drive by, or fight at some school, you’ll realize that $1.3 MILLION dollars would be better spent to teach those kids how to speak ENGLISH! I have no problem with kids learning foreign languages. Broaden horizons and all that, but when you have kids graduating from high school, who can barely read or write the native language, much less speak in coherent sentences, is it wise to spend time and money on such classes? AFTER they are fluent in English, then, give them the option of learning another language.

Two Moderate GOP Senators Give Big Voice To Little Maine

But the new math of Obama-era politics gives Maine influence out of proportion to its size. Even though Democrats have big majorities in both houses of Congress, they fall just short of a filibuster-proof 60 votes in the Senate. It’s a situation tailor-made for moderate Republicans to become kingmakers. Collins and Snowe — along with fellow GOP moderate Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania — could hold the key to an array of Obama administration hopes, including health-care reform and further efforts to resuscitate the economy. They can make things happen, or they can stand in the way.

Gotta love that ‘new math of Obama-era’! Where one and one equals 500,000,000. I wonder how the folks of Maine feel about their senators? Will they work to get rid of them as they’ve led the way down the past to destruction? Just curious if there are any folks with backbone up there anymore. Use to be a time when New Englanders would stand firm against tyranny. Guess that time is long past.

GOV’S HY-PAY-CRISY

Gov. Paterson has secretly granted raises of as much as 46 percent to more than a dozen staffers at a time when he has asked 130,000 state workers to give up 3 percent pay hikes because of the state’s fiscal crisis, The Post has learned.

The startling pay hikes, costing about $250,000 annually, were granted after the governor’s “emergency” declaration in August of a looming fiscal crisis that required the state to cut spending and impose a “hard” hiring freeze.

One raise was approved as recently as last month – when Paterson claimed the budget deficit had reached an unprecedented $15.5 billion.

Amazing. Just plain amazing. The words ‘cut spending’ don’t really apply to democrats, do they. That seems to average out to about 20 grand per raisee. Must be nice. Wonder what they do to warrant such raises, when other folks that actually WORK, physically and mentally, have to take cuts. Nope. Doesn’t mean a thing to ‘em.

US to pay 18,000 Philippine WWII veterans

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo said the nation shared a “profound sense of joy,” in seeing the service of these veterans finally recognised after years of lobbying the US government.

The US finance package, which was approved by Washington lawmakers on Friday, will provide a lump sum payment of 15,000 dollars to Filipino veterans living in the United States, and 9,000 dollars to those still in the Philippines, Romulo said in a statement.

The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office said the measure would benefit about 18,000 surviving veterans of the estimated 250,000 Filipinos who fought alongside US forces against the Japanese during World War II when the Philippines was a US colony.

Why was this not made a separate bill?????? What does righting a wrong of 60 years have to do with this porkulus bill? And why the hell has it taken so long for them to do this? Somethings fishy.

Proposed emissions rules worry automakers

On one side are environmental activists and many consumers who insist that U.S. carmakers build vehicles that don’t harm air quality and that help reduce the nation’s dependence on dirty-burning fossil fuels.

On the other are pro-industry groups and many auto analysts who say the clean air push is forcing automakers to manufacture cars that people won’t buy and that will only drive the companies further into financial disarray.

“You’re telling the car companies that they have to build cars that people don’t want to buy,” said Jeremy Anwyl, president and chief executive of the consumer Web site Edmunds.com and a longtime auto industry consultant. “It’s not exactly a recipe for viability.”

And while they are at it, how ’bout forcing folks to wear those Moa type Chinese jammies, eat tofu, and watch MSNBC?  What they are going to actually succeed in doing, is detroy the auto industry, only to find out, those aluminum cans are pretty much useless in the grand scheme of things.  Oh, I’m sure they are fine for tooling around a city, where you can hop from one store to another, or head to the spa for your daily facial.  But a LOT of folks live out on the real world, where you have to drive more than 10 miles to get to a decent grocery store.

Obama May Force Israeli Unity Coalition To Gain US Leverage

Obama’s only hope of forcing Israel back to the negotiating table with the Palestinian Authority is through a ‘national unity government’ comprising Likud and Kadima, according to a report in Britain’s The Daily Telegraph. According to sources in Washington, Obama is ready to manipulate Israeli politics behind the scenes in order to make that happen, as Israeli president Shimon Peres determines who he will ask to head up Israel’s next government.

That CRAPOTUS would see Israel destroyed as well as the U.S.? I hope the rumors are false, because there may come a time when we are looking to them for defense against the encroachment of Islam.

Venezuelans Vote to Eliminate Two-Term Limit on All Elected Office 54.4% to 45.6%

At 9:35pm local time, three and a half hours after polls closed and with 94.2% of voted counted, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council announced that Venezuelans had voted 54.4% to 45.6% in favor of a constitutional amendment to eliminate the two-term limit on all elected office.

Chávez supporters celebrated the nearly 9-point victory margin with enthusiasm, as it will allow President Hugo Chávez to run for a third full term in 2012.

Are those people so ill equipped for life that they’d prefer a ruthless dictator over freedom?

Matthew 17:20-22

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

Day Off

15 February 2009, 4:44 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Blog Stuff, Just Cuz.

Well, if you haven’t noticed, I haven’t posted anything today, other than the Verse of the Day.  The reason?  Well, I just haven’t felt like it.  That, and I was running late this morning.

Normally, it’s Mr Spot poking me, wanting breakfast.  This morning, it was the Mr.  Considering I’m not the most pleasant person first thing in the morning, it’s a miracle he didn’t learn to fly, as Mr Spot has done a time or two in the past.  I didn’t even get a full cup of coffee before it was time to head to church.  Gracious sakes.  Me without coffee.  Yikes!

After church, we decided to try a recently opened place in Savannah.  I was not impressed.  What is it with the restaurants around here?  Shoot, if all ya have to do is open a few cans and heat it up, throw some frozen chicken in a fryer, I could run a restaurant.  Sheesh!  I sure do miss Sweet Surrender.  Now THAT place had good food.  sigh…  Why is it that every place around here has the SAME food, and it basically all tastes the same?  Fried chicken, dressing, sweet potato casserole, creamed corn, smushed taters, and some kind of cobbler.  No variety at all!  Pfft!

So, anyways, I decided this afternoon was going to be for me.  Doing one of those things I do best…..nothing.  And I’ve been doing it quite well.  :P

If I decide to watch the news, or peruse the internet this evening, I might post something.  But y’know….every once in a while, it’s good to just walk away from this contraption, if only for a little while.

I’ve also been doing the scan thing, and found I have some sort of virus.  Been trying to get rid of it, but the goofy program keeps telling me it won’t clean it, even though their site says it will.  grrrrrr……

Colossians 4:1-5

1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

This store is in Texas??????  Found on The Patriot Room.  We don’t have a Borders anywhere near us, otherwise, I’d look to see if their “Religion” section was just as ridiculous as this one.  However, I did look at their website, and found that under their “Religion & Spirituality” section, The Holy Bible (KJV) doesn’t even show up until page 4 (50 per page).

A Republican With Backbone

14 February 2009, 8:48 pm. 2 Comments. Filed under Uncategorized.

California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore Resigns Leadership Post Due to $14 Billion Tax Increase Deal

California State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore resigned today as Chief Republican Whip due to his opposition to a massive tax increase deal brokered by Republican legislative leaders. DeVore said, “The St. Valentine’s Day deal to raise taxes on hardworking Californians will neither close the budget deficit nor control spending. I believe leadership thinks they are doing the right thing – but I cannot be a party to this agreement as I believe it will harm California.”

Excerpts of DeVore’s letter to Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines follow:

“…the recent agreement you negotiated to increase taxes in exchange for a spending limit will not likely accomplish the twin aims of deficit reduction and budget control that you seek.

“This proposed agreement also strikes at the heart of our longtime opposition to tax increases. Excessive taxation both harms the economy and robs hardworking Californians of a portion of their liberty. Placing our Caucus squarely in line with tax increases also demoralizes our supporters – people who were counting on us to hold the line.

“For these reasons, I believe it is appropriate for me to resign as Chief Republican Whip, effective immediately. I can no longer participate as a leader on a team that is preparing to make a fundamental mistake of colossal proportions. For the sake of California I hope I am wrong – however, I fear I am right and that this tax increase and budget deal will result in more harm to the Golden State than good.”

Isn’t it refreshing to see at least ONE Republican standing up for his principles?

Crime and Punishment

14 February 2009, 2:00 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Crime, Tennessee.

Two judges’ creative sentences disallowed

A state appellate court this week ordered two East Tennessee judges to get back inside that legal box they had stepped out of to fashion novel sentences.

While lauding the sentiment behind their sentencing decisions, the state Court of Criminal Appeals in separate opinions rejected the judges’ creative punishments as legally improper.

Pfft! What I’m finding in today’s courts, is a LACK of creativity in punishment. Mollycoddling criminals isn’t working. If judges can hit criminals where it hurts most, then perhaps there wouldn’t be a repeat of the offense.

The first case that drew appellate rebuke this week involved Johnson County resident Glenn E. Pressinell, who had been caught masturbating while watching his 8-year-old neighbor and her 7-year-old friend.

As part of Pressinell’s punishment, Judge Lynn W. Brown ordered Pressinell to move at least a mile away from the neighborhood. In an opinion delivered by Judge James C. Witt Jr., the appellate court opined that Brown’s decision was unduly harsh.

Harsh? Uh…no. I don’t think so. The old codger is damn lucky he’s not under the jail! The appellate court is worried about the pervert not living with his wife? If he was in jail, he wouldn’t be living with her anyway. What difference does it make? Perhaps having to sell his house in the current market would be a real good way to deal a blow to the old SOB perv!

The second case that drew appellate condemnation was Campbell County Criminal Court Judge Shayne Sexton’s decision to force a man whose reckless driving caused his stepdaughter’s death to pay for her funeral expenses. The opinion, delivered by Judge Jerry L. Smith, does not detail how Stanley A. Gagne’s reckless driving caused April Jones’ 2005 death.

According to the opinion, Sexton ordered Gagne to pay East Jacksboro Baptist Church more than $6,100 in funeral expenses and to pay Woodlawn Cemetery the roughly $4,500 purchase price of a gravestone.

And just why shouldn’t he be made to pay for all the expenses? If he is the cause of the child’s death, then he should be scraping the bottom of his pockets for every last dime to show her the respect he couldn’t be bothered to show while she was alive. Contrary to what the appellate court judges think, in the long run, it’s not actually compensation for the church, or the cemetery. It’s actually a smart down payment for the death he caused by his reckless actions.

There’s an old saying, ‘let the punishment fit the crime’.  In some cases, there is no way to reflect the actual damage done, so occasionally, a monetary punishment works just fine.  In the case of the stepdaughter’s death, should the man die in the same manner has the child?  Well, that would be kind of hard to do, wouldn’t it.  Unless, of course, you put him in a car with a child driving, and there’s no guarantee the child wouldn’t die as well.  With the old pervert?  Well, nothing seems appropriate, except forcing him to move away from children.

Just my 2 cents.

BLOOMY BLASTS RICH TAX

Charging that it’s “easy to rile against the rich,” Mayor Bloom berg warned yesterday that the income-tax increases being con sidered for the wealthiest New Yorkers would drive them from the city.

“One percent of the households that file in this city pay something like 50 percent of the taxes. In the city, that’s something like 40,000 people. If a handful left, any raise would make it revenue neutral,” the billionaire mayor said on his weekly radio show.

“The question is what’s fair. If 1 percent are paying 50 percent of the taxes, you want to make it even more? Anybody below that 1 percent, no taxes?”

At least people living in NYC can escape to some place else. Where will the ‘rich’ go in the rest of the country? If things keep on track as they are right now, there will be no escape, and there will be no rich. You know, those people who actually CREATE jobs for the rest of the folks.

Green knowledge arms kids for future

The goal of the pilot program is to teach sustainability and enable the students to be leaders in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Memphis.

The goal is a reduction of 10 million pounds by 2010, said Mollie Merry, coordinator of the program.

“We want every middle-schooler in Memphis to go through this,” Merry said.

Let’s not teach our kids what will REALLY aid them in the future. You know, those little things like READING? Why should kids know how to add and subtract, multiply and divide? They don’t need to be able to string a coherent sentence together. Nor do they need technology knowledge. Nope, they need to know how to recycle. Jiminy crickets! You’ve got a large number of kids graduating from HS who can’t even read, but they think this kind of crap is important? If kids are taught to respect their surroundings, which they aren’t, all you have to do is look at the graffiti on the walls in the schools and neighborhoods, to know this, then they’ll learn to respect themselves. They’ll be more inclined to pick up their garbage, and stop wasting everything! Teach the kids to learn! And stop filling their heads with phony science!

Federal obligations exceed world GDP

As the Obama administration pushes through Congress its $800 billion deficit-spending economic stimulus plan, the American public is largely unaware that the true deficit of the federal government already is measured in trillions of dollars, and in fact its $65.5 trillion in total obligations exceeds the gross domestic product of the world.

The total U.S. obligations, including Social Security and Medicare benefits to be paid in the future, effectively have placed the U.S. government in bankruptcy, even before new continuing social welfare obligation embedded in the massive spending plan are taken into account.

The real 2008 federal budget deficit was $5.1 trillion, not the $455 billion previously reported by the Congressional Budget Office, according to the “2008 Financial Report of the United States Government” as released by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

We can NOT afford this….whim….of either B. Hussein or the Pelosis and Reids. We just can’t! This country is not going to survive! Perhaps that’s exactly what they want? The complete and utter destruction? Sure does seem that way, doesn’t it. If BO has ANY sense, which I doubt he does, he will veto this piece of crap, send it back to the Capital, and tell them to remove ever single NON infrastructure bit of spending in the porkulus.  I think D.C. is underestimating the REAL anger of “We, The People”!

The Prince of hypocrites: Charles embarks on 16,000 mile ‘green’ crusade… aboard a private jet

Prince Charles was accused of hypocrisy last night for using a private jet on an ‘environmental’ tour of South America.

The prince will travel to the region next month in a visit costing an estimated £300,000 as part of his crusade against global warming.

He will use a luxury airliner to transport himself, the Duchess of Cornwall and a 14-strong entourage to Chile, Brazil and Ecuador on a 16,400-mile round trip.

Ever notice that those who shout the loudest, are usually the least likely to “do” as they say? Even our own so called president is a hypocrite….sending a jet, at taxpayer expense I might add….to make sure they had those 60 votes for the porkulus. The Hollyweirds are notorious for telling other people how to live, yet never take their own advice. Offset? What a racket! How do I start such a business for the terminally stupid? Hey, if the Boracle can do it, why can’t I? The ONLY one who practices what they preach is Ed Begley, Jr. He’s a nut, but ya gotta respect him….he does as he says.  Perhaps the ‘prince’ should have scheduled fewer engagements, spread over a longer period of time.  It’s not like he actually has a REAL job, or anything.

PMO: There will be no ceasefire until Schalit is released

Israel will not agree to a truce with Hamas in the Gaza Strip without the release of kidnapped IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement released on Saturday.

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal,…

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, who is based in Syria, speaks during a rally in Damascus, Syria.

“Israel will not reach any understandings regarding the calm (cease-fire) before the release of Gilad Schalit,” the statement read.

I haven’t understood why Israel wasn’t pounding Hamas since Schalit was taken in June 2006. Playing footsie hasn’t accomplished a dadburn thing. Appeasement never does!

Darwin still divides believers in the Bible

Hundreds of churches, as part of Evolution Weekend, are revisiting the question of whether man evolved or was created by a higher being.

Participation through sermons, Sunday school lessons and even evolution dances has expanded into 974 congregations across the country since it began in 2006, said founder Michael Zimmerman, dean of the college of liberal arts and sciences at Butler University in Indianapolis.

Actually, Darwin isn’t the problem. The problem is those who don’t believe the Good Lord could have done things HIS way. The problem is those who use The Origin of Species as their Bible, and there can’t be any other ideas taught. Faith in God does not mean we don’t believe man evolves. He does. Don’t we evolve from one being to another as we grow?  To those pastors who are preaching Darwinism, I’d say….find a new vocation.  You obviously don’t believe God’s Word.
