An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

ACK!

Since we bought this house two years, I have been looking at some of the busiest wall paper I’ve ever had the displeasure of living with, in my bathroom.  Jiminy crickets.  It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just on ONE wall….I could probably deal with it for the remainder of my stay on this planet.  But all four?  Every nook and cranny?  *shudder*

Well, I’ve finally decided to rid myself of the overwhelming flowers……as soon as I figure out how to use the remover stuff.  :?

Do you have a sewing box?

Grab that little pattern transfer tool, the one with the handle and the wheel that looks like a crazed acupuncturist would design it. Run it all over the wall paper that you want to remove, making sure the pins puncture the paper to the back side.

Get a spray bottle, load it up with a 50/50 mixture of fabric softener and water. Mist the wall paper. Go get your good spatula, or the putty knife that you use to fix the holes in the wall. Start scraping. Mist some more as you get the paper away from the wall. As the softener works into the glue, the paper will come off faster and faster. Don’t dig into the glue with your spatula or putty knife, as the plaster/wall board may be a little soft where the mixture soaked in.

After all the paper is off, let the room air out for a day or two, then sand the walls with 80 grit, and then again with 120 grit (use a dust mask). After you vacuum up the dust, the walls should be ready for your new look.

    Have fun! Post pictures!

Damn dude! When are you gonna be here? Want a beer or two? I’ll send the Mr to the store. How does pizza sound? Peperoni ok? With lots of cheese, mushrooms and onions?

Sewing kit? Is that that little box with a variety of colored thin string and pointy things?

Tenn. is a bit far for me to run out to on a whim. Besides, right now I need a stimulus to make the ends meet this month. But, if I could, I would.

I quit drinking when it interfered with life – not a zen moment way, but interfered with my breathing pattern – so I don’t do that anymore. Pizza sounds good, though – with a classic coke, and lots of it.

OK, since you don’t have the sewing kit, then go to the hardware store and get a wallpaper puncturing wheel. It would work better, anyway. Lots more pins on it.

This is what happens when a guy doesn’t have enough work in his shop…

Well, yes….I suppose it might be quite a commute. Although, real Coke, we can do. :)

Don’t drink m’self….just thought it was one of the “Man Rules”!

Would it surprise ya to know that I actually have stuff the is suppose to do the job? I’m just scared to death I’m gonna screw it up. And now you tell me I gotta sand the bloomin’ thing too? sigh…. Maybe I should take up drinking. At least I’d be close to the toity, right? :P

Well, the sanding thing is kinda optional – if the stuff you have strips the glue with the paper, you might not have to sand.

And, if you like really different texture under your paint, then you definitely don’t need to sand!

Oh thank you! I’m thinking a LOT of texture. LOL
