An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings

Human Achievement Hour

29 March 2009, 9:43 am. 17 Comments. Filed under Moonbats & Other Animals.

Last night, the Mr and I, along with quite a few others, celebrated Human Achievement Hour.  While the moonbats of the world turned off their lights, and played on their computers, spouting how much more they care than others (I smell hypocrisy), we turned on every single light in the house, plus the numerous outdoor lights as well.  I also did a load of laundry in my handy dandy washing machine, while another load dried in my handy dandy electric dryer.

More here.

How did you celebrate? Did you sit in the dark, like our ancestors, or did you celebrate man’s achievements?

What do you have against Earth Hour? Or on doing things for the environment?

  2. olbroad. 29 March 2009, 8:44 pm

I have a great deal against idiocy.

  3. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 8:46 pm

And what do you consider idiocy? Is it idiocy to invest in alternative energy or to protect the Amazon?

  4. olbroad. 29 March 2009, 9:03 pm

Oh, I’m all for protecting Amazon. I buy books from them all the time.

You may think you have control to change the climate, but you are sadly mistaken. And arrogant. Do you actually believe that you have any effect whatsoever? I have no problem with viable alternative energies…we just don’t have any right now…except nuclear. Wind isn’t a guarantee, and the sun isn’t always shining. We have a LOT of energy resources, right here within our borders, that can be retrieved with no problem. We have the technology. He can be rebuilt. (Sorry…showing my age.)

You are making phonies like the boracle rich.

As for alternative energy look up solar spray on cells. I take the Gale Norton stance on climate change, the science is divided so keep an open mind.
And you know which Amazon I was referring to. George Herbert Walker Bush would agree with me on this. He was a great man. His son was the runt of that litter but GHWB I have great respect for.
You are right the sun is not always shining but we are finding ways to store excess energy in batteries.

And reports have shown that the “earth hour” actually created more emissions… http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,511102,00.html

As for how I celebrated…I turned on every light in my 4,000 square foot house, turned on all 6 TVs, opened the windows and turned the heat on! Heh!

  7. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 9:23 pm

You’re the one paying for it all Chris. But I am seeing more alternative energy around the corner. Solar spray on cells.

  8. Chris from Racine. 29 March 2009, 9:24 pm

And pay I will, at least until the new administration starts taxing me to death on all of their “feel good” projects and pork

  9. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 9:25 pm

where do you stand on environmental issues Chris?

  10. Chris from Racine. 29 March 2009, 9:26 pm

See, I believe that if I earn the money, I can spend it on whatever I choose…unlike the new administration who believes that they know better than I what to spend MY money on…

  11. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 9:26 pm

And note I did not vote for Obama. I wanted a moderate in power not an extremist

  12. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 9:30 pm

I too would love to see tax relief Chris. particularly on income.

  13. Chris from Racine. 29 March 2009, 9:31 pm

Listen – I believe in environmental concerns. I recycle, I believe in alternate energy sources – including using our OWN natural resources. What I do NOT believe in is this man-made global warming/climate change bunk. And I most definitely do NOT believe in spending taxpayer money on the issue that has been debunked by many scientists.

  14. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 9:36 pm

That’s just the thing Chris, it has not been debunked. It is debunked when ALL scientists reach a concensus and that is NOT the case.
Is Mars warming too? Perhaps, I have never been there so I cannot acertain with 100% certainty that the rate of warming there is not any slower or faster than it is here. But there are many sources who say that Venus is hotter than Mercury and guess which planet is closer to the sun.

  15. Kyle. 29 March 2009, 9:37 pm

That is why I am keeping an open mind. Aside from climate change, there would be many other benefits to the Pickens proposal of natural gas powered cars, natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline and is thus friendlier on the lungs. Nobody can argue with that.

  16. Chris from Racine. 29 March 2009, 9:39 pm

Ah, but it has not been PROVEN either. Yet the government is all but saying that it has. There are enough dissenters out there, but the powers that be just plug their ears and say NYA NYA NYA – I’M NOT LISTENING. They won’t even listen to a dissenting viewpoint, even by respected scientists.

  17. olbroad. 31 March 2009, 7:40 am

I dunno…..I’d say 200 pro UN scientists vs 2000 independent scientists carry a whole lot more weight with me. Not to mention common sense.
