Financial Crisis the Fault of White Folks

27 March 2009, 8:58 am. 1 Comment. Filed under Chris From Racine, Economy.

Well, according to the Brazailian President it is.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday blamed the global economic crisis on “white people with blue eyes” and said it was wrong that black and indigenous people should pay for white people’s mistakes.

Speaking in Brasília at a joint press conference with Gordon Brown, the UK prime minister, Mr Lula da Silva told reporters: “This crisis was caused by the irrational behaviour of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing.”

Mr Brown appeared to distance himself from Mr Lula da Silva’s remarks. “I’m not going to attribute blame to any individuals,” he said.

Well then, since I have brown eyes, I guess I’m not to blame!  Idiot!

Terror inmates may be released in US: intel chief

President Barack Obama’s intelligence chief confirmed Thursday that some Guantanamo inmates may be released on US soil and receive assistance to return to society.

“If we are to release them in the United States, we need some sort of assistance for them to start a new life,” said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first press conference.

“You can’t just put them on the street,” he added. “All that is work in progress.”

Assistance? From whom? Do they expect us, YOU and I, to support them?

Army Vet Billed $3,000 for War Wounds

26 March 2009, 12:38 pm. 1 Comment. Filed under Chris From Racine, Health Care, Heroes, U.S. Military, Veterans.

This is despicable.

(CNN) — Erik Roberts, an Army sergeant who was wounded in Iraq, underwent his 13th surgery recently to save his right leg from amputation. Imagine his shock when he got a bill for $3,000 for his treatment.
Army Sgt. Erik Roberts was badly wounded in Iraq with two comrades in April 2006.

“I just thought it was bull—- that I’m getting billed for being wounded in Iraq doing my job. I always put the mission first, and now that I was wounded in Iraq, they’re sending me bills,” he said.

“I put my life on the line and I was wounded in combat, and I came back and they’re not going to take care of my medical bills?”

It’s a level of outrage shared by his mother, as well as the doctor who performed the surgery.

“It’s hard to understand why we’re not taking care of guys like Erik whose injuries are clearly related to their service. They deserve the best care of anybody,” said Dr. William Obremskey, an Air Force veteran and surgeon at Vanderbilt Orthopaedics in Nashville, Tennessee.
“For him to be responsible for $3,000, I think, is a little ridiculous or is uncalled for, particularly in this situation.”

This is absolutely an outrage.  And that’s not the end of it.  According to the article, his PRIVATE insurance picked up the majority of the $90,000 in costs.

There is good news, however…
CNN on Wednesday contacted the office of Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Roberts’ home state of Ohio who serves on the Senate’s VA committee. Brown’s office had not heard of Roberts’ case, but immediately reached out to the soldier and alerted the VA about his situation.
In less than 24 hours, the VA got back to CNN. “The VA will be paying the bill,” said VA spokesman Sean Nelson.
While I’m glad that this particular situation was resolved, I’m sure there are countless others fighting the same bureaucratic battles.  There is something terribly wrong with a system that cannot take care of the medical needs of those who so bravely fought and put their lives on the line for this country.

Some Roads Should Not Be Traveled

change-to-socialism

We are moving one step closer to socialism. Today Geithner is scheduled to announce “sweeping expansion of federal authority”. A rose by any other name is still a rose and socialism called “sweeping expansion of federal authority” is still socialism.

I get it, we need some oversight in the financial industries but complete government. control is not the right path. Dictating the salaries and limiting the risk that companies can take to benefit shareholders is an anathema to prosperity. Risk = reward. What they are proposing is nothing less than a government take over of private industry.

Sometimes, It’s Just NOT About Politics

It’s about principles.

Jindal defends those who want Obama to fail

It’s OK for Republicans to want President Obama to fail if they think he’s jeopardizing the country, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal told members of his political party Tuesday night.

Jindal described the premise of the question — “Do you want the president to fail?” — as the “latest gotcha game” being perpetrated by Democrats against Republicans.

“Make no mistake: Anything other than an immediate and compliant, ‘Why no sir, I don’t want the president to fail,’ is treated as some sort of act of treason, civil disobedience or political obstructionism,” Jindal said at a political fundraiser attended by 1,200 people. “This is political correctness run amok.”

Did the lefties get their knickers in a twist when James Carvelle stated he wanted Bush to fail? Of course not, because they certainly weren’t hoping for his success. The Democrats, the left, and the FAR moonbat left, did everything they could stop anything and everything that Bush proposed that made any sense. You must remember also, Congress voted FOR that war in Iraq, so I don’t wanna hear jack about that, ok? They continued to vote for the funds when they could have just said no.

So far, B. Hussein Obama has been a miserable failure. He is not a leader, he’s a campaigner. That’s what he does….he campaigns. Ok, so you got the job….now try doing it! I’ve never seen such incompetence, in the WHOLE administration. They look like a bunch of flipping butterflies, flitting from one flower to another. I still don’t see the attraction with him. He’s boring, and couldn’t give a straight answer to a straight question if someone was waterboarding him.

Yes, it is ok to hope Obama fails. That means his policies will fail, and he’ll be a one term president, if he isn’t impeached first. BUT, with the likes of Queen Nanny pulling more strings that she has the right to pull, we still have a major battle on our hands. If we could get HER out, we might have hope for REAL change.

For the record:  I HOPE he does fail!  Flat on his face.  So far, he’s doing a pretty good of that, all on his own.

Drug Tests for Welfare Recipients

26 March 2009, 8:18 am. 3 Comments. Filed under Chris From Racine, Economy, Opinion.

I think this is a very good idea, and one that should have been implemented years ago.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —  Want government assistance? Just say no to drugs.Lawmakers in at least eight states want recipients of food stamps, unemployment benefits or welfare to submit to random drug testing.

The effort comes as more Americans turn to these safety nets to ride out the recession. Poverty and civil liberties advocates fear the strategy could backfire, discouraging some people from seeking financial aid and making already desperate situations worse.

Those in favor of the drug tests say they are motivated out of a concern for their constituents’ health and ability to put themselves on more solid financial footing once the economy rebounds. But proponents concede they also want to send a message: you don’t get something for nothing.

“Nobody’s being forced into these assistance programs,” said Craig Blair, a Republican in the West Viginia Legislature who has created a Web site — notwithmytaxdollars.com — that bears a bobble-headed likeness of himself advocating this position. “If so many jobs require random drug tests these days, why not these benefits?”

I agree.  Years ago when I lived in a not so nice area of Chicago, I saw people selling their food stamps, trading them for drugs, you name it.  Now I know that there are people, particularly these days, who legitimately need assistance.  I don’t have a problem with that.  But I don’t think it’s too much to ask that those who are taking taxpayer dollars pass a drug test.  I would go one step further and demand proof of citizenship to anyone who is seeking assistance from the US government.

A Serious Apology

25 March 2009, 7:48 pm. 30 Comments. Filed under Blog Stuff.

I owe Chris, and Fred, an apology.

Chris has been a great friend, and has put up with a lot after taking over a good chunk of the blogging here at Ol’ Broad’s since I semi-retired.  One of the many reason I cut way back (contrary to evidence) is for health reasons, which I don’t much care to share right now.  If it weren’t for Chris, I might have totally lost it by now, more so than I already have.  Being female, she occasionally gets a tad hormonal.  Why do you think I don’t feel real strong about women being POTUS?  :P

Fred came to my defense, and Fred, being Fred, spoke his mind.  I respect his opinions, and appreciate his thoughts on all manner of subjects.  He’s a smart man who does not put up with any crap.  He doesn’t back down from a fight, and will stand his grand.  I wish I could be as strong as he is, in some areas, and wish, only occasionally, folks could see his gentle side.  He does have one, you know.  :)   Otherwise, Mrs Fred would have probably put him six feet under a long time ago.

And I also owe an apology for my behavior today.  I don’t normally go off on moonbat.  Typically, I’m rather reasonable, or just flat out ignore such idiocy.  It’s been a bad day, but that’s no excuse for my language, which is NOT like me at all.

Get Angry!

25 March 2009, 12:33 pm. 33 Comments. Filed under Pond Scum, Religion of Pieces, The ONE, War on Terror.

There were many on the left who did nothing but pound Bush, day in, day out.  He can’t pronounce this, or that, comparing him to a chimp, he stole the election, ad nauseum, but will no one on that side of the political spectrum call out B. Hussein for his total disregard for his complete lack of competency?  There was no ‘coming together’, for the sake of the safety and security of our nation.  Yet now, we are suppose to sit back and call that pretender Mr. President?  Did he NOT take an oath “to protect and defend”?  At every turn, we see him, and his lackeys, going out of their way to see the complete and utter destruction of this nation.

From Texas Fred’s:

People like Obama, and those that support him, are more concerned with TRUTH TELLERS like me and thousands of other Conservative bloggers. They are so concerned that they have labeled us as Domestic Terrorists. Obama and Company don’t have the guts to call the enemies of this nation TERRORISTS, they don’t have the guts to call our efforts against these enemies a WAR on TERROR, but they have the audacity to cal me and people like me Domestic Terrorists.

Go, read all of Fred’s post!

For speaking out, for a bumper sticker, for a t-shirt, WE are considered ‘terrorists’.  But those who would bring down buildings, murdering thousands, are not?  Excuse me?

Here is a clue BO…..it IS a WAR on TERROR.  I, for one, will not call it anything else.

Another Concealed Carry Success

25 March 2009, 9:20 am. 5 Comments. Filed under 2nd Amendment, Chris From Racine, Crime.

It is proven once again that concealed carry works.

An afternoon shootout at a busy Burger King restaurant in Miami left a potential robber dead and the customer who shot him seriously wounded.

The bloody event unfolded about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the restaurant at Northeast 54th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. It was a time, employees said, when it is usually crowded with schoolchildren and people getting out of work early.

The robber entered wearing a ski mask. He approached a clerk, showed his gun and demanded money, said Miami police spokesman Jeff Giordano.

A customer eyed him and the two started arguing. The customer had a concealed-weapons permit and his gun — and the two exchanged gunfire.

The robber crumpled to the floor and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The customer, with several gunshot wounds, was in serious but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Now here in Wisconsin, we have a ban on concealed carry, therefore, the only people who are carrying are the criminals.  It is my contention that if we had concealed carry, those thugs may think twice about who they rob at any given time, not knowing who may be carrying a weapon.  I do not, nor have I ever believed, that allowing concealed carry will lead to MORE violence…I believe the opposite to be true.
