An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

A fellow Tennessee blogger, Newscoma, unfortunately on the oposite side of the spectrum (but I don’t hold that against her ), has been overwhelmed by puppies. The Mr and I aren’t dog people, and we don’t have a fenced in yard, which to me, is a requirement to have a dog. Not to mention, we travel too much to have such a little critter that needs so much attention. Come to think of it, Mr Spot would probably think it was one of his mouse toys, and go wailing through the house with him/her in his mouth. Strange cat. And BIG.
Now, look at this cute little fella! Don’t you want one???
Go to Ms Coma’s site, take a peak at them, and tell me you aren’t enamored! And if you can help her out….please do so, ok?
If you are bothered by occasional or frequent constipation, look in the mirror and repeat the following phrase three times in succession when symptoms occur:
“My financial and personal well being are totally in the hands of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Tim Geithner, Rahm Emmanual, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Al Gore.”
If that doesn’t scare the shit out of you, then you are probably destined to be backed up for the rest of your life.
There is no need to thank me for this advice, I’m just doing a public service.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A woman locked in her car in Kissimmee called 911 on Tuesday.
“It’s getting very hot in here, and I’m not feeling well,” the caller told the dispatcher.
The woman said nothing electrical was working, so her locks wouldn’t open.
The dispatcher calmly told her to pull the lock up with her hand.
“Um, I’m sorry,” said the woman, who was not identified, after the lock opened.
And, no, officials say, this was not an early April Fool’s Day joke.
You can hear the 911 call here
And to think – she is probably eligible to vote. Wonder who she voted for?
Economics terms we should all know
Recession: When your neighbor loses his job
Depression: When you lose your job.
Recovery: When Obama loses his job

I need to remember there was, at one time….. not so long ago, a true American spirit!
The proposed budget has a provision that says parents who are on welfare in Wisconsin would not have to send their kids to school in order to get full benefits.
No, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke. So, why would Gov. Boyle slip this into the budget? According to the Wisconsin State Journal,
Officials with the Doyle administration said a 2004 audit showed this requirement in the Wisconsin Works program failed to help more children attend school. Since most families only stay on W-2 for a few months now, the requirement doesn’t affect a student’s long-term attendance, said Department of Children and Families spokeswoman Erika Monroe-Kane.
The program — a holdover from the time before welfare reform when parents received benefits longer — can’t be justified in the face of the state’s massive budget problems, she said.
“It wasn’t working,” Monroe-Kane said. “This is an accountability improvement.”
What? An improvement? So, in order to fix the “massive budget problems”, we will no longer require that parents send their children to school, thus raising yet another generation of entitlement-minded welfare recipients. Yep – makes sense to me!!
But Republicans said the move would let bad parents off the hook by stopping the practice of docking parents’ checks by $50 per child per month, up to $150 per month, if a child is skipping school repeatedly.
“The least we can do is make sure that (these) children go to school,” said budget committee member Rep. Robin Vos, R-Caledonia, who wants the state to fix the program if it doesn’t work. “If you don’t have a good education, you can’t expect to succeed in society.”
Why anyone needs to clarify that to the dumocrats in Madison is beyond me. We also have this little tidbit:
• Allow benefits for a qualifying parent staying home with a newborn for six months, up from three months under current law, at a cost of $2 million over two years.
Excuse me?? In essence this is six months’ paid maternity leave!! Are you kidding me? What private enterprise allows six months’ paid maternity leave? And yet, we taxpayers will foot the bill for this. Why you ask?
Rep. Tamara Grigsby, D-Milwaukee, said the first months of a child’s life are critical and that the state as a whole would benefit from giving poor families the extra time.
Pardon me while I puke. How will the state as a whole benefit from this? After all, just a few years down the road they can receive benefits without having to send their children to school to get an education in order to become a productive member of society. And riddle me this, Batman; why do poor families need more time with their newborn than middle or upper class families?
You just can’t make this stuff up.
Cross posted at Silent E’s place, because people need to know about this.
Barack Obama met the Queen at Buckingham Palace today and gave her a gift of an iPod loaded with video footage and photographs of her 2007 visit to the United States. In return, the Queen gave the President a silver framed photograph of herself – apparently a standard present for visiting dignitaries.
The Queen already has an iPod, a 6GB silver Mini version she bought in 2005 at the suggestion of Prince Andrew.
Can the man be of any more embarrassment than he already has? Evidently so! This is what you get when you send a boy to do a man’s job. Way to go Oblahblahbots! You’ve proven that 52% of the American people are morons!
I don’t suppose we’ll find out that elections were all a big joke, and we aren’t really been run into the ground by the asshats in Washington, D.C.?
Last week President Obama took another opportunity to discuss his budget plans with the American people. As part of selling his $3.2 billion dollar budget, he has set his sights on defense acquisition reform and the time-honored tradition of promising greater cost savings by rooting out the fraud, waste, and abuse within the system.
While reforming the acquisition system is a noble task, buried within the President’s language is the subtle message that he sees acquisition reform not just as an effort towards reforming the acquisition process, but also as a way to cut weapons systems his administration deems to be either unnecessary or unaffordable. In his remarks, he targeted programs that don’t provide “our troops with the kinds of tools that they need to succeed on their missions.” The misplaced yet growing conventional wisdom around Washington is that because the future of conflict will mirror our present irregular engagements, there is less of a need to invest in expensive conventional military platforms that the military will likely not “need to succeed on their missions.”
What we need, Mr. Obama, are bigger and better weapons to insure our nation’s security! I realize the reason you got elected was because you promised so much ‘hope’ and ‘change’. You dropped the hope part, which for obvious reasons, are really not part of your administration. In 2 short months, you’ve managed to destroy any hope of a better future for our children, and our children’s children.
Now, you want to make sure they are not safe in your New World, as well? I’m no military expert, but I do know, “you don’t bring a knife to a gun fight”. Yes, I can hear the moonbats now…..”but why have a fight at all?” Well, I’ll tell you why! Because there are people out there, that want you dead. They don’t care if you ‘love’ them or not! They don’t give a damn if you have warm fuzzies…..they don’t!
The reason we didn’t actually have a physical war with the USSR was because of mutually assured destruction. Neither nation would have survived. The WAR ON TERROR is not like the Cold War. These are not sensible rational people. They are animals who wouldn’t hesitate to slit your throat, blow up an elementary school filled with children, or set off biological weapons that would insure the most deaths possible.
I too, would like to believe the best of people. I just can’t when it comes to those who will do their best to destroy us, from the outside and the inside. Without a strong military, we have NO hope. But, perhaps you are right. We don’t need new technology to keep our children safe. You’ve pretty much assured their slavery to extremists (both in, and out of Congress) already.
